I loved Van Bommel, I have to say. Great at fouling people without getting called, great at being able to accumulate a lot of fouls without the ref carding him. Always looked under control and a master of the dark arts, like one Alessandro Costacurta who was my first favorite player.

Obviously I love to foul people and use all manner of questionable moves on the football pitch, both because they're effective and they wind up your opponent. But you have to have that Van Bommel air of seriousness, and the ability to foul without looking like it's intentional.

well that's something i don't know in deep but i'm not so sure that's the reason why lvg brought him to bayern. but i'm sure that's not the reason he wants to bring swine to united

World Cup winner
Champions League winner
German League winner
31 years old.
He's proven
His name is amazing
=
'7.5m'?

Doubt it's true but if anyone is saying no to all that, get out.

31 year old, 1 year left on his contract

How much do you think would he be worth ?

His performance in the world cup final...

Would love him here!

We're United, we never pay less than £30M.
Pretty much my thoughts.

If you're sizing up prices, 7.5m is probably around the right price.
If you're sizing up prices and United are looking to buy, add that extra £££ on.

£7.5m for him would be the steal of the whole summer.

I'll believe it when I see it, like, but yes please with sugar on top.

As long as he isn't our only midfield signing, I would love for this to happen. £7.5m sounds too good to be true.

Where did you read that nonsense? Rummenigge has been talking for months in public about our wish to extend the contract with him. If he wants to, he has a new longterm contract within a day.
Really??

I'll bow to your knowledge as a munich fan but thats signifixantly different to what ive heard/read.

I was being sarcastic.
But I wonder what mockery, you have some info others dont?

Oh god no.

But it's not as fun to mock the muppets. They're so full of muppettness.

But i do think there's something to this rumour. Something more than the normal shite

Balu is not wrong. Schweinsteiger is in the driver seat here.

If he wants to go 2015 - they will let him go (and the transfer sum will not be an obstactle)
If he wants to go 2016 - they will let him go.
If he wants to stay - they will extent his contract.

That is exactly that what Rummenigge - and Guardiola - have told. (The part with the transfer sum is what I implied)

We all do not know what he will do as in every interview he had he let everything open - and everybody else does that, too.

I doubt it tbh. I wrote its dead in the water cause it was a favorite quote last summer.:)

Oh, yeah i don't disagree with that, I've heard that. But that is not very. ..committal to trying to keep him and schweinsteiger using us to get a better contract, in fact theyre basically saying 'were happy if you want to go to utd so fill your boots'. Of course that could be a bargaining tool for them to make sure they don't get screwed over a new contract as they may feel it unlikely he'd want to leave.

It just doesn't look like the usual using united to get a better deal.

Him and Schneiderlin would genuinely be a perfect midfield boost.

My worry is that LVG said we needed a right footed defensive minded midfielder for the balance, well that would be Schweinstiger surely? I can't see him buying both of them.

It would be brilliant if he did

The club offered him a new contract and for quite some time talked about nothing but wanting and expecting him to stay. Only after Schweinsteiger stalled and didn't sign, both Rummenigge and Guardiola reacted to questions from the media by saying that he has to make up his mind and that they'll respect his decision whatever it is because he deserves that respect.

How is that not committal?

He plays harder and better for the national team than at club level in recent years, likely cause he can ignore/tolerate his nagging injury problems better for a four week tournament.

Bundesliga seasons (started games)

16 of 34 (2014/2015)
22 of 34
27 of 34
18 of 34
31 of 34 (2010/2011)
33 of 34
31 of 34

The fee is small, but there is risk attached to the signing.

Also as Mueller put it so nicely: Whether I know where Schweini is? I don´t know where the women´s tour is this week. He followed Ivanovic to Australia during the winter break (not exactly a short trip) and to England between the end of the Bundesliga season and the EC qualifier. So his priorities might be shifting a bit, too.

This is exactly why I'd be worried if he was our only midfield signing. With his injury record, we'd basically have signed no one for half the season.

Knew I was not alone in the risk of this signing, if we give him the wages he wants, and if he does pick up injurys at united at his current age, it's falcao all over again

Uff!:lol: Did Müller actually say that!? The balls on the kid to call out a Bayern legend! I'm sure Schweini didn't take too kindly to that comment.

I doubt that Mueller is still the kid...

And as the tennis circus is not the most secret place to hide in...

Actually, after the first line he told that he is in contact with him but does not know nothing new...

...you could add to that that he would not tell if he knew...

Read a tweet posted by MUFC that players agents are using United's name to get lucrative contract extension with their current club. Ramos and Bastian seems to be two of them.

Alves was another and Ronaldo last year and many other lower profile players over the years. When will muppets learn?

The Ivanovic quote is off putting. Must been bored at Bayern or something.

Not that he wouldn't instantly improve our midfield (not a hard thing to do), but I hope there are other targets besides a 30, turning 31 year old player that has been sidelined for ~3 months in each of the previous 2 seasons to a recurrent knee injury. Given our lovely injury record at the club, it's a bit risky to sign him in my opinion.

United request for Ramos in De Gea deal seems like a logical move for me. And if you read the posts of Bayern fans in this thread it was clear that Bastian doesn't want to renew at Bayern.

That's a bit too far. We all still believe that there's hope and we want him to stay. What's obvious is that he doesn't use United for contract negotiations though. He got a fair offer, basically the same as Lahm, which would keep him as one of the highest earners at the club for the next years. It's not about money, he's not stalling so that we increase the offer or anything like that.

He's simply trying to figure out what he wants to do next and takes his time. There's nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It took me 4 months of endless discussions with my family and friends to figure out what I want when I had the chance to go abroad for work 12 years ago. I can relate to it being a very difficult decision when you're very happy where you are but also interested in trying something new and different.

Muller is on his way to becoming a legend himself. :)

Reading the Caf, you'd think players who turn 30 suddenly start moving around in wheelchairs and are totally useless.

He's probably still got 4-5 seasons at the top level in him and has been one of the best CMs around for ages. I didn't think he'd ever leave Bayern, but if there's ever a chance to get him, I'd snap him up. Really classy player and would help us hugely.

We're all mentally scarred by almost exactly that happening to two of our main three strikers in the season just gone (with many caftards arguing it's happened to all three of them)

To a certain extent, but it's not only this summer. The age thing is a huge mental block for loads of people on the Caf I feel!

You are right, but we should realize and accept that it's a different story for strikers and wingers, they peak sooner and flatter sooner, with the exception of players like Henry, Robben, Pizarro or Ibrahimovic who seemed to be very good in their thirties.
For all the other players, 30 years old is an age of maturity and experience which makes midfielders and defenders a lot better.
If we have the chance to sign Ramos and Schweinsteiger, we will gain two born winners, who in my opinion will fight for the team(despite the fact that they already won everything) because it's how they are, but will also bring a lot of experience and maturity.

Ramos would be a really good signing, Schweinsteiger is a gamble because of his knee problems, not the transfer fee, just his wages. I would not want united to be stuck with a player on huge wages, and finds himself on the sidelines. But with our current squad always picking up injurys, I could see this happening again with him.

He doesn't have knee problems, though he had ankle problems. And people should read the numbers more carefully since he cameback in November he has been available and almost played all the games, he missed 3 or 4 games, iirc.
