Love him as a player but how many times have we bemoaned the fact that our signing policy doesn't seem to take the injury records of players into account? In an one-off game having more quality is obviously beneficial, but over the course of a 50 game season, reliable if not exceptional players are more useful to a team than better players who can't stay fit.

Swine's Tiger

Certainly now is really the only realistic time we could sign him, but there is a reason for that

A risky signing, and think we should look elsewhere

If his injury record was better I'd say go for it, but even gundogan presents a lesser risk than bastian at this point, he always seems to be carrying a knock....IMO I do not expect him to do well in the EPL

Thought this was worth putting in here from the Twitter thread, 3 years at United and off to the USA at 34 might well suit all parties.

Would love him at United.

-Gundogan-----------Herrera
-------------Schwien-----

Gundo + Schwien would probably be available for £30-35m...bargain

No thanks, he's old and incredibly injury prone atm. He's been a wonderful midfielder but he's on the decline and the more injuries he gets, the quicker that decline is gonna happen.

If we get him it's a short term solution which would get us by for a couple of seasons with Carrick in there also!

I get the feeling LVG is thinking short term as I can see him retiring after his contract expires in a couple of years!

If he was here for the long term I think he would have looked at our youth a bit more rather then being aggressive in the transfer market!

Michael Carrick is 34 and has had his share of injuries, yet we are happy to rely on him. I don't know much about Swine's Tiger's injuries but is his situation much different? I can understand people would prefer a younger player for the future but what if Van Gaal sees in Swine's Tiger a player who he won't even need to impart his philosophy to, a player who's ready to step in and help win stuff?

LVG bid for vermaelaen as well.... That would have been terrible if it went through.
Bastian's injury record is terrible as of recent years.

I concur. He would be a terrific signing if not for the injury concerns. The issue is that it has hampered him for a while, he was out injured for long durations in the season before the treble season too.

Fans want to be challenging for the title next season and wouldn't accept anything less, yet they do not want proven, experienced players. They want younger players who have the "potential" to become great. Expensive players are no-go too. And they think they are not asking too much.

I don't think you'd find many who would want to rely on Carrick. From what I have read on here, most want a new starter for his position.

Bastian has had an injury troubles 3-4 seasons, barring the one in which Bayern won the treble. He would need to be fit to impart the philosophy and help us win stuff - which is what is in doubt.

From this past season, it's been clear that when Carrick is not available, our standards drop drastically.

Bastian at 30 isn't old. If he's brought in to play in Carrick's deep-lying position instead of box to box, he'll be able to extend his top level career by at least another 2-3 years. It's not unthinkable. He's a very smart player, and a bit of a character too.

If he comes, I'll consider it a very shrewd signing.

I expect Van Gaal knows everything there is to the player after having coached him. If he's confident Swine's Tiger can do a job, I'm all for it.

He's won everything at Bayern.

I think a move to United would be a very appeaking challenge for him.

Being linked with Schweinsteiger and Dante in tomorrow's Kicker as having made concrete offers for both players. Are we going for a pensioner's XI? Let's bring Scholes and Giggs out of retirement while we're at it.

Don't want Dante but Schweinsteiger if he can stay fit could be dynamite for us even if it's only for 2-3 years, great player and just what we need.

I can't imagine him playing for a team other than Bayern, he doesn't strike me as being like Gerrard.

Dante? Hopefully this is the usual nonsense.

He could quite easily come in and boss the midfield like Carrick does from a deep position. I remember his performances for Germany in a tournament where he was amazing almost every game.

Obviously he's older now but in that position he won't need to cover lots of ground, just use his passing and positioning which he is great at.

I absolutely love this guy. Possibly my favourite non-United player for the past several seasons. He is/was the perfect midfielder, has/had absolutely everything.

Can't believe anyone would turn down the chance to sign him. He would boss it for a few seasons.

Maybe because he missed like 50 games in the last 2 seasons and it's doubtful if he can stay fit to play those few seasons, where he can boss it.

Forget his age ! We've lost Rio , vidic , evra , giggs and the only real leaders we have are carrick and Rooney .
IMO were crying out for some experienced players . Especially next year being back in the champions league .
The swine tiger will be immense for us for a couple of years until the new lads bed in .

It would be crazy to not even ask. Maybe not what he was a few years ago, but can still be a major cog for a big team, especially when used right. Of course, the price has to be right. If it's reasonable, he could boss the midfield with Carrick, Herrera, Blind, & FillInTheBlank for at least 3 more years, and then serve as the resident grey-beard to help unlock certain teams as needed (a la Giggs a few year ago)

Big Pete's heard the rumours...

Schmeichel going full on muppet. Actually travelling to a location of a shirt with Schweinsteiger's name on it for the sole purpose to stir the shite. Big Pete's muppetry holds no bounds.

He was doing a commercial with Oliver Kahn at the Allianz Arena today... Tipico Sportsbets...
