I am very optimistic regarding this transfer, more than the Gündogan one. Seems the perfect time for him to move on and Louis knows him.

The way I see it we're pretty shallow in the depth of our midfield and with Carrick getting ever older and ever more injury prone we need to correct the department this summer.

I think we need 2 midfielders ideally, one who can play #6 and the other #8. Think Schweinsteiger would be an excellent edition if we're looking to push on and challenge properly next year and in the short term. Not just as a player but the qualities he'd bring into the dressing room are the ones we're sorely lacking, for a reasonable price it's a no brainier to me.

Has been an excellent player, but what is his fitness/injuries been like?

For the rumoured 10-15m, even at his age, would be a good bit of business

for 10 mill its a no-brainer.
rotating him and Carrick in the #6 role would prolong both their careers.
We still need another box to box though (Scheiderlin)

I watched it too yesterday. Müller will be staying i think, but Schweini looked a bit suspicious to me, especially the Feier beast part.

Got that impression as well. Müller tried to laugh everything off with a couple of poor jokes. Same goes for Lahm. Schweinsteiger on the other hand was pretty quiet and indeed looked suspicious. God I'd love him here, if only he could stay fit.

Btw Müller must be one of the most tiring guys in world football. Haven't seen a single interview with him that he acts normal in. Also the way he laughs about his own poor jokes. Jesus Christ.

Bastian's Swine-Tiger

How would Carrick and Bastian work together as a double pivot? You could then shuffle AdM, Mata or Herrera as a #10.

I wouldn't play a double pivot ever to be honest. I think the 2-3-1 is over rated. Much rather have a 6 and two 8's or a 6-8-10. If we played them together I'd go for Carrick sitting, Bastian commanding the midfield in front of him and Herrera having a free role between 8 and 10.

Ask Bayern fans how they feel when Alonso and Schweinsteiger play together.

@Balu @Piratesoup
I think Schweinsteiger + Carrick would work better though. Carrick is less dominant in possession and more a player who keeps the game ticking rather than someone like Alonso or Pirlo, who want every build-up to run through them and love to hold on to the ball for a bit, while the rest of the team moves around.

Wouldn't we get overrun in the midfield, though? Neither Michael nor Bastian are sprinters really.

Not that I mind getting Schweinsteiger myself, mind, just don't think that Carrick + Schweinsteiger duo would work.

Do you reckon there a chances of him leaving ? He strikes me as a one club man and still very much wanted by Guardiola. Reminds me of the multiple Bayern players we were linked with before (Lahm, Muller and even him in 2010).

Yeah, I'd say it's 60-40 that he leaves either this or next season. He's different to Lahm and Müller. He always had the desire to play in England and now that he has won everything with Bayern, it's a great time to make that step. I doubt he would have left, if we failed to win the CL. His new relationship makes it even easier, I doubt Ana Ivanovic cares where he lives for the next 3-4 years.

Don't think though, no. Pace is a bit overrated when it comes to defensive midfielders in my opinion. But I don't think you can plan with both of them as regular starters anyway, it should be an option for specific opponents or in case other midfielders aren't available, not the main plan for a full season.

I don't see this happening.

He will retire at Munich.

I don't think so anymore. He might not move this year, but I don't expect him to stay beyond 2016. And it's alright that way.

Müller on the other hand....

I think we will buy both Gundogan and Swiney. Along with Carrick we can have a 'fit at the same time' thread for them.

if we buy Gundogan and Bastian (along with Depay RB & CB) , it would be the best transfer summer ever.
I dont see us going for both Gundogan and Bastian TBH.

Id rather Gundogan because I feel both Carrick and Bastian in the midfield would be too static for the EPL plus Bastian always seems to be injured.

I have the feeling that Schweini has always been a bit overrated. Beside that he is clearly past his Peak so this move does not really make sense.
Maybe next year for free and on low wages to bring some experience if Carrick finally retires.

According to Sport 1, he wont move to the MLS before 2018.

He said himslef in January that he wants to play 3 or 4 years at the top level. Their opinion is he will stay at Bayern for at least another year, because he loves Bayern too much and he wants to be 100% for the Euros 2016. A move would be a risk at this time.

It is just an opinion, but i think that he really thinks about a possible move to United. If he stays or goes at the end is still open, but i thnk there is a good chance he could move.

Christ he would be awesome....he's a leader, a winner and a monster with the fear factor and a great player......but there's no chance he's coming........we've been on the verge of signing him for 10 years now...let me see...stay at Bayern at your spiritual home for one last season to try and win everything or go to a country and culture where you might not settle at all? But there's still a 5% chance he will come and he would be outstanding here
