He's not entitled to a chance.

Especially seeing as the current manager had 6 months to watch our team last season. There was nothing to justify him getting another season(It was probably a mistake to sign him in the first place)

Him staying just bleeds our club dry. Yes it was a poor deal that we signed on to,but I can't see why a United fan would be so happy to want to see us suffer.

Why not? He could not help if if he was injured. No player should be judged on playing under LvG, no one.

Hope he stays and collects all the wages due to him. He has not been given a chance under the new management, even during pre-season training.
You don't think new management didn't review the games from last season? He does not have to be given a chance this isn't under 8 football where everyone plays

I thought he looked very good on the few times I saw him, but the number of times he played is the problem.

Because a manager can make decisions on who he wants to keep in his team based on more than playing under Van Gaal. They live and die by those decisions.

It could simply be a case where he doesnt fit the criteria the manager is looking for in a midfielder. Why bother with him then?

This just screams of over attachment to a particular player for sentimental reasons.

Bastian was not unfit because of Van Gaal either so not everything can be laid at his table.

Precisely.

We are also playing a high energy midfield two. It doesn't really take much thinking to realize that an undue player wouldn't be much help in that.

I'm sure Jose knows all about Bastian's illustrious career, but he isn't selecting his squad based on exploits from 3 or 4 years ago. He's here to win ,not flatter egos.

Bastian is a good example of why the club was wise in the past to give only short term contacts to older players. Like they are currently doing with Carrick and Ibra. Rooney's long-term contract was another mistake.

Look at this commercial about him leaving for the Premier League to prove he's still got it after the injuries and how he wants to show what he can do abroad... Sad to see it end in this shit.

All the players deserve a chance under the new manager. Mourinho basically gave every other player a chance to show in training what they can do. I don't think it's right he is frozen out before a ball was even kicked in training, seems a strange way to treat a player. We're treating him badly so I have no problem if he wants to run his contract down.

Its widely reported and known Bastian had nicer privileges under Louis, came and went as he pleased, especially second half of the season. Apparently recuperating from an injury yet seen travelling to with his now wife to tennis tournaments. He's on 200k a week - If Memphis fecked off when injured on a trip, he'd be hammered by the press and fans.

He isn't in Mou's plans on or of the pitch - he isn't to the level required by Mou on the pitch, and he was pampered like a spoilt brat under Louis which the players did not like at all. Obviously any talks he had with Mou didn't go down too well, Mou has given chances to everyone else. Something isn't right with Bastian, simple as.

Nothing sad about it. He simply doesn't 'still got it'.

It simply doesnt work that way.

Based on a plethora of reasons, a manager is entitled to decide that a player doesn't fit his system. Why bother with a player that doesn't? He isn't the first player to be deemed surplus to requirements by a new manager even before said manager arrived. Usually, such players are sold before it gets to this stage. Bastian's high wages means that he is just harder to move on.

It really seems that this was a case of choosing between two senior players, in Carrick and Bastian. Van Gaal had decided on Bastian with Carrick seemingly not given a new contract. Jose then decided on the former. Once that spot was filled, there was no reason to keep Bastian.

I will repeat again, but Bastian wasn't the only former first teamer to have to train with the reserves. Januzaj and Blackett had to do the same.People only care because this one carries a bigger name. It was never personal, it was simply a case of being surplus to requirements.

As much as he is entitled to stay and run down his contract, the club is equally entitled to tell him that he is surplus to requirements and wont play.

We'll read the truth in someone's book in a couple of years...:nervous:

That'd be a very decent fee, considering we don't want him and he's on huge wages. Especially with recent articles saying that if he were to leave, we would have to pay him out, rather than receive anything from a transfer fee.

Yeah it's a clear indication he'll be going to somewhere like the MLS or China next (hopefully the MLS).

Still shit how this has all panned out.

Danke Basti. He could still be a very good player for us this year.

"I love money too much. If no one offers me the same salary I will sit out and suck the club dry. I can't believe my luck that I was able to find suckers who were willing to give me such a contract when it was evident that I was finished"

What makes people think he still has anything to offer on the pitch? He showed nothing last year. If Jose believed in him then maybe I'd get where all this hope for him comes from, but he clearly doesn't either.

I thought Schweinsteiger was a leader.

Over the last year, he has struck me as a person just happy to waddle through and pick up a nice check every week

what an embarrassing end for a great player and leader

Jose is one of the GOAT managers for a reason, but just judging based off what we - the fans - see on the pitch, I can't see a reason why Schneiderlin is kept and not Schweinsteiger. If you ask me, as disappointing as Basti has been at times, Schneid has gone MIA more often than not. Basti actually seems perfect to play that 'closing midfielder' role that Jose liked to use Zouma in at Chelsea. Surely, his body can take 10-15 minutes of PL action a week?

Again, not saying I'm any better than Jose, but I can't find any logic to keeping Schneidi while freezing out Basti unless this is an elaborate mind game or power play.

He is better than Carrick, and sitting next to Pogba in a team that is taking more risks and making more intelligent movement off the ball he would be fantastic in this CURRENT United team in my opinion. I would love to see him get a couple of games, peoples opinions would change on him quicker than they have with Blind and Fellaini. This forum is very fickle at times.

Zouma is tall, athletic and fast. Schweinsteiger is neither. 15 minutes of PL action a week? So we should waste a sub every week now for a 31 year old midfielder instead of giving it to, e.g., Rashford? Or if you want to make a 1:1 change then surely you'd want to give it to TFM?

Schneiderlin is on lower wages, younger, can actually run.

F*ck off, Bastian.

Easy to be 'classy' and 'professional' when you're earning £150k+ a week for doing sweet f*ck all.

I feel sorry for the fans that get taken in by, and fall for his 'nice guy' behaviour. They must have been dropped on their heads as children.

He must have some PR team though, to be able to spin the current situation in a positive light for himself when the reality is he's phoning it in and taking the club and it's fans for a ride.

If that was true he'd be in the team. Jose wants whats best for the club, he believes Basti isn't.

Glad you cleared that up.
