Bastian Schweinsteiger | Exit Speculation

Some rumour sites were linking him with Celtic over the weekend. I can't see them being able to afford his wages. He's probably on more than half the Celtic team combined.
Even Brendan doesn't want him because he can't press or run. He's going to be our new Valdes.

I agree the best thing for him is to find a club that actually wants him to play, but i don't understand why people are so desperate for him to leave? We were stupid enough to give him a massive paycheck in the first place. And he's not complaining about anything publicly, is he? Basti is a class act, and he deserves some respect for how he's handling a bad situation. If he leaves, good for him. If he stays, it's understandable as well.

I have a feeling he'll be around until January, or until we pay off his contract ala Adebayor.

If he has any pride he'll take a big pay cut and move to a decent club.
i can't see us paying of his contract, right now he is owed close to 20million, maybe next summer when he is only owed 10 we might consider it but still seems unlikly

His wages can be better used elsewhere, so if we can get some club to at least pay some of it we are better off. Finance 101.

Well, sure, but i find it weird how many caftards are worried about the clubs finances. And having Basti on the books won't change a thing. The money spent on Basti won't really be used elsewhere. We spend money where money is needed, with or without Basti. We wouldn't have signed him to a massive contract if we needed the money elsewhere, as we were very aware of the risks involved.

Thats not really true though.

Every business , no matter how big will not want to keep an unnecessary expense on its books. Our 4th/5th highest paid employee that offers nothing to the company is one such costs that sticks out.

Its called opportunity cost, and every decent business will analyse that.

There's a German journalist for Sport 1 called Christian Ortlepp suggesting that Schweinsteiger is staying.

Don't know how reliable he is but he's not blacklisted so I thought I'd post it here.

I dont think thats untruthful.

I think he probably will stay till Jan, he simply wont play. But on those wages, I doubt he minds. I wouldnt either.

Sure thing, and I as well understand this. But every decent business also does risk analysis.
So did we, and now we pay the price. Every business does good and bad deals, and unfortunately this was a bad one.

Of course I understand that the club would want to move him, but again, I don't understand how this is such a big deal for the fans. It's not like we've struggled financially lately. Throwing money at players is the only way to compete nowadays (don't mention Leicester), and situations like this one is a sad result of this policy.

Barney Ronay on the BS

Mourinho has worked out that Schweinsteiger’s legs can no longer keep up with his brain. The midfielder’s performances symbolised last season’s dreariness at Old Trafford and you might recall some killer detail after Louis van Gaal’s sacking about how little time Schweinsteiger apparently spent in Manchester. Schweinsteiger was injured in January and had a tendency to return to Germany, flying in for United’s matches then straight back out again. It went down badly in the dressing room, to say the least. “Taking the piss,” was one description.

I won't be surprised if he stays, it is weird though that Mourinho never mentioned him in any of his pressers/interviews whenever he talks about the players he can't give play time to.

Seems to always mention Depay/Schneiderlin/Young instead, which hints to a Schweinsteiger exit.

I doubt that we will keep him on those wages without playing him though..

We wont play him simply because he is on such huge wages. There is no way Jose would budge on that, and Woodward doesnt come across as the sort to go above the managers head(Which is a good thing imo)

I think that is why we want him out so badly, we have no plans for him, and this is perhaps a way for him to see that.

I really think he has played his last game here, and rightly so.

Its more that I want the best deal for United, in everything.

Bastian staying isnt that, so hopefully someone else shows interest and we can get him off our books.

he was on vacation because he has been at the eruos' he reported back when he was meant to and was sent to train with the reserves, which he has done without complaint.

i completely agree with jose wanting to sell him as he is in noway the player he was, but the guy has acted nothing but professional, which is all we can hope for in a situation like this, where a player of his stature seems set to be staying at the club despite not having a place in the squad.

Professional would be being willing to take a paycut to go play football somewhere else, and not lumber around in Manchester without being wanted.

Also the reports I read about him flying about in Germany, tennis tournaments etc. has lowered him in my eyes. I think he was a LvG darling, and he took advantage of that.

As much as I want him gone(And I want it to happen asap), he really is fully entitled to do that as long as he shows up for the stipulated training.

Its up to us to pay him off to get rid, or find someone else to take him off our books.

Well Ortlepp is kind of a douchbag but he is the chief reporter of sport1 in charge at bayern so he has quite good connections. Guess one of the bayern officials gave him some sort of hint. Still would be surprised if stays without any chance of playing, but maybe his body is really that done...

time for some chinese lessons ed...
cant see anybody else with the money for a deal (not sure he would want to go though)

"Taking the piss"...you could say the same about few things when it comes to our current members in the team.

and professional from our point of view is accepting we made a commitment to paying this player this amount of money over 3 years, despite his age and his injury record. we made that commitment we can't then be annoyed that we have to see it through.

for my part i've not read or seen anything that has demonstrated that he has been anything other then professional, the only thing he has done wrong is not be the player he once was, which was obvious before we bought him, it's not his fault our management didn't recognise that and agreed to pay him all this cash.

I'd stay if i was him. Train with the reserves a few days a week, throw a tweet out on match day pretending you care, all for £200k+ a week. Nice work if you can get it.

There is absolutely nothing not professional about him not taking a pay cut to go play elsewhere. For a professional sports person, they only have a limited window in which to earn money in the profession, so he is doing nothing wrong by waiting to get the right move for him.

Yes but he's better than that, so he should do all he can to get out before the window closes.

Real shame it has worked out like this.

FFS he's now highest paid PR guy in the world.
Where do I sign for this job

Hope he stays and collects all the wages due to him. He has not been given a chance under the new management, even during pre-season training.

The price you pay for spiralling wages and longer terms for over 30's with an injury history. Not his fault, has nothing to do with pride or professionalism.

What are his options though? Would he really go to Stoke or the like for say £70k a week rather than stick around and pick up a lot more. Whats really in it for him?

I heard there's this club that want to treat him humanly. Ship him there?

Given that his missus usually only lasts to round 1 or 2 most tournaments the pair of them must do feck all most weeks.

No I wouldn't expect him to go to Stoke, but best case scenario a club like AC Milan or Monaco might take a chance, with us paying him off so he can take a reduced wage, or worst case scenario he could go to the retirement home that is the MLS.

I just think we, and he should do all they can to get him a new club, imo he is a good guy and it'd be sad to see him been humiliated playing in our reserve squad, or worse still not playing at all this season.

I'm not going to come in in here saying he's a nice guy, don't know him, some sucking up photos on social media aren't enough to convince me. I'll judge him on his impact on the pitch though, and it was pathetic last season, and he showed nothing that'll make me sad to see the back of him.

They must be the highest paid failing sporting couple in the world right now.

So if you had a valid work contract and they wanted to get rid of you because you're surplus to requirement, would you do "the right thing"?

I feel no pity for the club having to honour a contract, it's corporate money being spent and there's an obscene amount of it to go around. If anyone should be attacked, it's the club board. Handing out insane long term contracts to seasoned players made this club the laughing stock of Europe. Rooney's eclipses everything, though.

He's not entitled to a chance.

Especially seeing as the current manager had 6 months to watch our team last season. There was nothing to justify him getting another season(It was probably a mistake to sign him in the first place)

Him staying just bleeds our club dry. Yes it was a poor deal that we signed on to,but I can't see why a United fan would be so happy to want to see us suffer.
