Weird enough too when it’s a player from Madrid as well who was a hero of the national team a few months ago.One of the most embarrassing Real Madrid episodes I can remember.

Ronaldo, Messi, Ribery, Zlatan, Neymar, Iniesta, RvP, Robben, Bale, Pirlo.
I don't think he touches that top 10. I think the standard of football overall is just a lot lower than it was 10/15 years ago.
When comparing the retired best vs the current best it is very normal too feel like this, because you have alredy seen the retired ones at their very best and compare that level to mostly players with many gears left or at their level right now.
24 year old Ibra was not better then anyone 24 or younger from this years top 10 in my view.
I think that's his point.Ibra when he was 24 wasn’t in this list.
Pure primadonna mentality, glad the fans seem to be quite embarrassedOne of the most embarrassing Real Madrid episodes I can remember.
That's because he won it mainly for captaining Spain at the Euros.Seems weird, he didn’t even win the PFA award.
Right, it used to be the best footballer in the world award. That's because he won it mainly for captaining Spain at the Euros.
Surprised Haaland was 5th.
Probably the last time they have a balloon door winner.Love how City have a Ballon d'or winner and tomorrow all the talk will be United
And he has a strong claim no? Vini wasn't La Liga's POTY (it was Bellingham) and he didn't play well at the Copa America too. Rodri won the best player at the Euros and was pivotal for his club too. Seems fair, great to see a midfielder win it.Right, it used to be the best footballer in the world award.
L. Martínez is one of the most overrated players in the world for me. He has some great qualities like his ball striking or work rate off the ball, but I don't think his game would translate very well into a more difficult league or even another role in his current team where the ideal circumstances aren't provided for him by the system.
Be real. Rodri is clearly above Busquets. What is there to discuss? Not for a second accepting Rodri is a better footballer than Busquets.

Not sure there's any argument for Carvajal other than team achievements and consistency throughout the season. He's not even anywhere near to being the best player in his position.
Rodri finishing high in the Ballon D'Or voting is a function of there being few good players around now, not his quality. Busquets was the better footballer.Nah he surpassed Busquets this year and he's not even finished his career. Busquets never finished in the top 20 of the Ballon d'Or, never deserved to either. There were always better players than him. Same can't be said of Rodri, who is a great midfielder. Rodri already finished 5th last year, and will likely win this year.
Agree, Ronaldo is and forevermore will be a massive twat but don't forget Messi here too. His hand on the neck antics have been given a pass for too long. Ask South American players what they think of him as a person and you'd be surprisedWhilst I find the Madrid meltdown funny, this is nonsense. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the least 'classy' players in history and has won this award 5 times. Football is an emotional, competitive game and the stakes are very high, passions sometimes boil over. Winning the award should be about performances only, not some ridiculous, nebulous concept of 'class.'
I don't disagree with your general sentiment but Vini is who he is. Punching the Leipzig player in the throat was pretty cnutish, nothing justified thatWhilst I find the Madrid meltdown funny, this is nonsense. Voted club of the year, manager of the year and 2nd, 3rd and 4th for player of the year = "not respected".
Babies.
They're more than players, they're brands. The reaction to not winning it ("i will come back 10 times stronger") is also very telling of the mindset these players have.It started mainly with Ronaldo but you're seeing it more and more. Players caring about individual over team success. Alexander Arnold said last week he's rather win the Balon Dor than the World Cup.
You see all these celebrations pointing at themselves, pointing to their name. Most of these current superstars care more about themselves than the team. We've had a good few of them players over the last 5 or 6 years.
