Bad Berba's Back

Excellent. Fergie giving him a kick up his arse. You don't shout at your own team-mates no matter what, i bloody hate to see that.

I dont mind it when the player has earned the right to do it like Pete and Keano.

But when a player like Berbatov who has come nowhere even close to earnign that right he should keep his mouth firmly shut

I loved it when Schmeichel did it. Man, the air around the penalty area turned blue at times when he let fly.

Schmeicel was allowed. That penalty area belonged to him.

Berbtov isn't a happy player at United, I think that much is clear to anyone. When he's playing well he seems more relieved than happy, and when he's playing well isn't particularly often.

Hernandez is a tireless worker, Rooney tends to gel well with tireless workers because they pull players toward them, as he does, and it makes defenses lose their shape. Ronaldo was often marked out of games during his last two seasons with us but because he was being double marked Rooney would bully the defense. Berbatov doesn't worry defenses, at all. He isn't "a right handful".

Imagine trying to mark Rooney AND Hernandez though. It's an immediately worrying prospect, and I'm really, really confident that they're gonna gel incredibly well...which doesn't bode well for Berbatov. Who doesn't seem happy as it is, and who's been dropped the MOMENT that Rooney is fit again.

You rarely see managers talking openly about it though, especially Fergie.

Thing is, SAF's been pretty diplomatic for a long time now, and is probably losing patience, particularly now the emergence of Hernandez allows him to be. He probably would have sold him already, had he had an outlet to do so, but had no way of recouping an acceptable amount

I think some blindly support Berba out of some pseudo intellectual bent as they perceive that if they support a supposed intelligent player they elevate themselves above the mass hysterical ranks - they can appreciate class whilst others of less intelligence cannot.

However they simply highlight how totally dumb and stupid they are at times. Berba is a good player but some just can't seem to realise that's all he is.

Surprisingly, that made some sense.

He has already repaid his transfer fee with the hat trick against the Scousers but I would be very surprised if he was still here at the start of next season! I think Fergie is really being patient with him and he could just prove us all wrong but its looking doubtful!

That's probably the oddest point I have ever read.

I hope we don't end up spending another 30m on a hat trick against Liverpool.

I'm a bit surprised people are so small time. I understand how big the rivalries are, but one is saying Berba's hat trick repaid his fee, while others say the Owen transfer was worth it for that goal against City.

Well, bollocks. I'd take 3-3 against City and 2-2 vs Liverpool, had those two lads never joined and we got one really good forward, who is confident, plays well with the team, is fit when we need him most and helped us towards title number 19 last season. Leave the cup finals to others. We actually are in the business of winning trophies, rather than winning the 'we beat United' trophy.

Manchester United To Sell Dimitar Berbatov To Help Fund Incredible Double Transfer

Reports from Spain are suggesting that Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov will be sold before the end of the season, in order to fund a move for Athletic Bilbao star duo Fernando Llorente and Javi Martinez. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-time admirer of the Spanish pair, and has been impressed with their fine form this season.

Athletic Bilbao have largely relied on Llorente’s goals this season, whilst midfielder Javi Martinez has been a consistent performer for the Basque side for a number of seasons. The duo will not come cheap, with Manchester United willing to spend up to £35million on both signatures.

Ferguson’s desire to land both players will mean sacrificing Bulgarian striker Berbatov, who was left out of this weekend’s fixture against Wigan. United will be seeking around £15million for the player, with clubs such as Bayern Munich, Fenerbache and Juventus willing to take him on.

Ferguson has promised some big-name arrivals at Old Trafford in the close season, and this extraordinary move will please many fans.

Never heard of these two. But Berba leaving? possible.

Its all tongue in cheek! Of course everyone would have prefered that 30 Million quid to be spent on 6 or 7 top top youngsters with potential for developing but Fergie cant always get it right and I think everyone bought into 'the new Cantona' hype around Berba before we signed him. He has equal skills to Cantona but is missing 2 essential qualities - Fight and Mental Strength!

Llorente played and scored for Spain at the World Cup. I call bull shit though. I can't see us being interested in any strikers. Even if Berbatov does go.

You've never heard of Llorente of Martinez? wow, on the actual story as soon as you see the source the whole thing becomes a waste of print, although id be very pleased if we signed Llorente and regular La liga viewers will understand why.

Llorente has been very good the last few games I've seen him in, he seems to have really upped his play all round in the last year. I'm less familiar with Javi Martinez, he's a big mobile lad though....of course all of it is almost certainly bull.

not into La Liga at all. I do watch the odd Barca Real match though.

Thats fair enough its a pretty pointless league these days in all honesty, ive been an addict of la liga football for a good 7-8 years now watched it religiously but of late my interest has somewhat dried up for obvious reasons.

Anyway i doubt this story is true.

nah..I doubt it is true either.

But Berba has frustrated SAF a bit and I think if he does not improve again, he may have lost patience by the summer.

Oh it wouldn't surprise me at all if we targeted a new striker come next summer, by all accounts our 1 major target last summer was David Villa well not by all accounts he WAS our major target as Fergie said, that alone suggests Sir alex is looking closely at the striking department, Llorente would be a very good purchase to, but anything that comes from Caughtoffside.dom immediately loses all credibility unfortunately.

I hope not.

I think the development of Welbeck and the quickness in which Hernandez has settled would negate the need for another striker.

This thread really depresses me, how can people not have faith in one of the most technically gifted players in the Premier League?

When the player refuses to recognize the potential talent he has for the third season in running, if he fails this season?

Probably on a big wage packet too, when you moan like a baby about John O Shea's wage packet. :wenger:

Berbatovs more than good enough to succeed here, his form at the start of the season shows that, he just needs to get to that level on a more consistent basis, that level of performance he was showing little more than a few weeks ago was perfectly good enough.

Its also noticeable how Nani has gone off the boil lately but thats widely ignored because of Berbatov, all players have dips, theres no question Berbatov has the ability to play for anyone.

I think so too.

SAF will spend this summer...but it will be in midfield.

btw. Other than Rafael who do we really have that is 'reliable' on the right. Neville will be done and sorry Brown does not fill me with confidence..plus his supposed falling out with SAF may mean he is gone.

a lot of the problems of our forward players imo stems from the underperforming midfield.

your thoughts?

Yeah, any money spent in the summer will hopefully go towards the midfield.

O'Shea and Fabio can both play at RB.

Firstly, John O'shea hasn't yet singed a deal of the ridiculous magnitude that was touted in the press, secondly Berbatov's technical ability is in another universe to O'Shea (as much as I like the lad) he's worth the 80-90k we're paying him because his skill warrants it.

Agree totally, the central midfield as a creative source is not good enough thats plain to see, and hasn't been for some time truth be told, the fact were still relying on a 36 year old as our main source of creativity in there says it all, we need heavy investment in that area, the lack of service in recent weeks has been very poor, the number of times ive watched Hernandez make a run in behind only to be ignored because our midfield hadn't the vision or understanding to realise his movement, its extremely frustrating and im just a fan, i cant begin to imagine how annoying it must be for the player himself.

We are reliant on Scholes for our midfield to be a creative force, thats not good enough.

Technical ability isn't the be all and end all, O'Shea has never let United down and one last big contract is reward for years of loyal and effective service to the club.

Let's measure it by contribution to the cause. We don't pay because players can do flicks with their eyes closed.

Not criticizing Berbatov, I'm just saying you are a bit slow. :D

Judge our strikers when our midfielders are playing well.

Pele and Ronaldo wouldn't get many goals with the service they're providing atm.

Well, judge our midfielders when our strikers make themselves available. We all have seen many passes just dying for somebody to be on the end, just whishing by, as our strikers were too busy not to make a run for it.

This whole team is just doing what's needed to win, they will begin to play expansive football when their confidence are sky high.

I've seen about 4 of those this season that haven't been hit by a 36 year old ginger.
