Serie A syndrome and it seems like he does fancy himself a dribble. Move the ball lad!

Exactly. He simply wants to much time on the ball and isn't any good when he is closed down quickly. I don't know if he will ever be able to overcome that. He generally seems like a graceful silky player but not extremely agile or quick due to his long limbs so this could a big problem for his time in the premier league.

This thread is cringeworthy.

Pogba is the one genuine world class player we have

De gea is the one genuine world class player we have. You can't be classed as one of our world class players if you haven't yet played world class for us.

Whats lucky though is about 40 people in this thread know exactly how to get the best out of him. Take note Mourinho.

Diligent today, very disciplined in defense. Not that it is the most difficult thing in the world, but to me it shows improvement.

Big difference from the lazy stuff we saw against Watford.
You're not getting away with that. Tonight's defensive act was down to Herrera and fellaini

Not really, no! Several times pogba was slow in pressing

Then we read the game differently. I found it impressive that we could stress the defence with those two players pressing high.

I rated both Herrera and Fellaini higher than him today, they were better. But I thought he was more effective in defence today than any other game I watched.

Crap with the ball though, the cross to Ibra was his only real play.

Fair enough and maybe you are right.

and I also appreciate the way you debate :).

I still think that's all Mourinho wanted from them tonight. The few successful offensive actions were just a bonus.

Relax, give him time and form an opinion when he's been part of a settled team for a few months. Or don't. Be like sammsky and then get on your high horse when people "deify" your favorite player who has been rubbish for two years. The choice is yours!

#BeLikeSammsky :p

With regards to Rooney, all I advocated was being respectful with criticism. I agree he should be dropped, but only if we have a better solution, which we have yet to prove.

He hasn't been great, but has also been let down by Zlatan. If you go back to the Fabregas/Costa partnership that won Chelsea their last title, Pogba has been doing his bit to replicate that i think.

He set Zlatan up for that volley against Leicester that he put over the bar. He set Zlatan up for another sitter in the first minute against Stoke. He intercepted and then set Zlatan up last night, although admittedly the flag went up anyway although Zlatan screwed it up. He set Zlatan up for another sitter with his cross yesterday too.

He should have had a number of assists if not for the profligacy of our centre forward, and ultimately, that is a large part of his job, and he would have drawn a lot more praise had those chances been converted. Especially as it would have us probably level at the top of the table now.

Pogba’s inability to justify his fee isn’t surprising at all. That fee was outrageously high. There’s very few players who can justify it on purely football terms. Pogba is not one of them.

There’s no denying that Pogba was the weakest link of our midfield trio. However some of the criticism is a bit unfair. First of all, we played against Liverpool at home, that’s far from an easy game. Secondly we played a striker on the right and a so called winger on the left who hasn’t been playing first team football since January. Third it was our first game in a 4-3-3 formation. Finally, Ibra was supposed to lead the team had an absolute nightmare. May I also remind that he was partnered by two players who just few months ago, were nearly skinned alive by the fans. So let us give him some time.

That doesn’t mean that what is Pogba is doing is good. First of all he needs to adjust to the EPL tempo. Some of the flicks he does may work in the Serie A but would only make you look silly in the EPL. He must also learn to take his share of responsibility. At Juventus he was allowed to do what he wanted mainly because Juventus defence and midfield is rock solid and there was always someone keeping a close watch to him. There’s no Vidal, Marchisio and Pirlo bailing him out at OT.

From our side, we need to decide what we want to achieve and how we’re planning to achieve it. If we truly aim to win important trophies (not some mickey mouse cup) then we can’t keep on switching systems while hoping that the likes of Young, Rooney, Jones and Depay will suddenly become world beaters. We need to have a dependable squad and everyone must know exactly what is expected from him to do.

Pogba is not a world class player - he may become one and he certainly has the attributes to do that but it takes more than talent. As another poster stated Man Utd do have one world class player and it is De Gea.

That said, Pogba needs time to bed into the team - a team that currently is not in great form.

If I'm not mistaken Bayern had/have the same problem with Thiago?

The excuses about position ran out a while ago. It's very simple. He's just playing poorly.

This is how I see it as well.
But if you read many posts, many fans are saying that Pogba is doing just fine.
IMO, he is playing badly and is certainly not playing like I'd expect a Galactico to play.

Worryingly a MILE away too.

As I said, not that it's good enough. But you act as if he's been shit every match, which would be false.

He is not crap and not poor.
I'd say he was average for all matches apart from his first game and also the LCFC game, where he as MOTM.
The problem is that we did not buy Pogba to be average. We bought him into the team, so he can change the direction of the match with his athleticism.
R.Keane and also P.Ince were able to do this in our games and that is what we are looking for with Pogba - a player who turns up in big games and can make a huge difference.

He has actually created the same about of chances as Jordan Henderson this season who is a holding midfielder, and half those of De Bruyne and David Silva. We should be looking for a higher standard to be successful. The odd chance here and there isn't going to cut it. We cannot expect us to finish every chance

EDIT: heck Ross Barkley has created 20 chances and he is deemed to have had a shite start

Well perhaps you are right. I'm not the hugest fan of stats in these circumstances, all I know is from watching with my eyes, he has created a fair few sitters for the lone striker.

I doubt that Henderson or Barkley have created those sorts of chances 5 times more often than Pogba either, and that's part of the issue with stats. More about what is considered a 'chance'. Admittedly I haven't watched them as much, but Pogba has put some on a plate, and I doubt Henderson has put 5 times more on a plate in reality.

What I won't argue with is that Pogba needs to do more. Some of it is his fault, some is not, I reckon.

I repeat what I said earlier in the thread. He simply cannot move the ball fast enough and play at the speed of the premier league. He is only good when he has time and space on the ball, when he has that space then he is very very good but he will rarely if ever be having that sort of time on the ball in this league.

Honestly struggling to think of them? The chance Ibra missed against Stoke. And the cross last night (not really a sitter). Any others?

the lad is 23. calm the heck down.

Look around though. These days that's reaching one's 'prime' it seems. Nobody is saying kick him to the curb, but he has not impressed by any stretch. Neither has Ibra since the first 4 or 5 games. That header he flubbed yesterday....wow. Not even close. I'm still a fan of both, and do love the physical presence and potential pressure they exert, but I expected better.

I think he's perfectly capable of moving the balk quicker and being a very effective player whilst at it. He just needs to adapt. He'd do well to take a leaf out of Ander's book. He could use his body to shield the ball since he doesn't have Herrera's escapist quickness. He'd technically up to scratch so no issues there. Dude got some changes to make because as you say, he jut looking for time that isn't available in the EPL.

It's funny how people get stuck on a fee... I mean yes, it generates expectations but c'mon, we all knew Pogba wasn't a £90m+ player.

Now, money aside, Pogba certainly had some world class displays at Juve, but he has also shown he can be a bit inconsistent which isn't a big deal since he's still young. So why did people on the Caf expected he would just start giving world class performances as soon as the season started? He came to a team that hasn't been able to establish a solid first XI and a defined style of play for the last 3-4 years. Just give the players a right amount of time to make a proper assessment.

I'd personally call yesterday's cross putting one on a plate, at the very least to get one on target.

Then there was the chipped pass against Leicester to Zlatan. Admittedly, I was wrongly including the one where Zlatan was flagged off last night.

I also think there have been a few situations where the chance wasn't on a plate, but some balls over the top would have been more threatening if it were Rashford and not Zlatan.

Judge him after 30-40 matches. It's way too soon.

Christ on a stick, he gave Ando 4 seasons before deciding that he wasn't going to going to be Ronaldinho v2.0
