Baby elephant is growing quickly in the room

"An Elephant in the room" suggests he is becoming a long-term problem that everyone is ignoring...yeah, lock this thread.

The good thing about this saga and meltdown is that through all this it has become clearer which posters are simply ignorant and full of kneejerk reactions and which ones should be taken seriously and sought after to debate proper football related topics.

Amen.
My ignore list has swollen considerably.

I personally think we should release him, he's utter shite.

Interesting choices considering they both scored hat-tricks yesterday.

By all accounts Pog was shite in the French game. Which can't be put down to the settling in issues he faces at United. Was really hoping his confidence would get a boost before our big games coming up. Really disappointing that he brought his club form with him to the international fixtures.

Who are France playing next?

So? A week ago Polish press ran a few stories about how "poor" Lewandowski had been. Ronaldo had the worst start to the season in the last 5 yeara or something. IMO key players are just tired. I wouldnt wrtie Pogba off until next season.

Edit: Lewandowski said he was tired in the recent interview for Polish TV.

Nobody's written him off.
At most, some think he's been underwhelming given the hype over the last three years.

Surely 'writing a player off' is focusing on the future, whereas people on here are focusing on his past performances.

Darmian and Rojo have been written off. Pogba's merely been criticised.

That's because Rojo is shite, and Darmian isn't too far away. The only 2 outright poor members of the squad for me.

There are a few more who have been written off (Fellaini and Rooney. And Jones, Memphis and Lingard to a lesser extent).

But Pogba's definitely not one of them.
Criticising his performances isn't the same as writing him off. People just use that phrase unnecessarily.

Personally wasn't that excited over this transfer and thought we overpaid. However the fee and inflated expectations aside he's done okay and im sure he'll grow into the team.

We certainly dont have any better options.

A year is a long grace period for a world record transfer

He's done fairly well so far, but it's all complicated by trying to bed his position down, in a team that's still trying to find itself, under a new manager! Not to mention after a long summer tournament.
So it would have been more surprising if he had instantly come in and smashed it.

Not exactly shite, but bad enough to have caused a huge discussion here over the weekend on TV about what's happened to him this year.

A run of poor performances for the French NT, especially during the Euro 2016, and awareness that we're not all falling at his feet at OT - yet !!

Personally, I don't see a world class superstar when I've watched him almost every match the past three years ( despite his God-like status here and record transfer fee ) but I get flamed when I say that on the PP performance thread. Oh well.....

France play Holland away on Monday night. Will be interesting to directly compare the performance of Blind ( a quarter of PP's transfer fee ) with those of PP himself. Yes, I know - different players / positions....But let's look at it as a value-for-money comparison.....

That's a very strange idea. How Blind plays for Holland has absolutely nothing to do with whether Pogba's been a good signing or not. I'm just hoping for at least a hint that we haven't had our pants taken down in the transfer market. A-fecking-gain. Just a hint would do nicely because there's been precious few so far.

There is no huge discussion in France, before the game almost everyone was convinced that Griezmann was now the leader and that the team should and will be built around him.

You and I obviously watch different TV channels and read different newspapers.

And yes, you're correct - Griezmann is now the media's new darling....And rightly so.

I haven't watch telefoot but I did watch Canal and LequipeTV, I also read Sofoot.

To be fair to him, he was more like a headless chicken than a baby elephant tonight vs Liverpool

£90 for a headless chicken!

I think my original thesis has merit, as I still don't know how we get a decent game out of him. Let alone consistent match winning performances which a player of his worth should deliver.

Get a grip, he was good vs Stoke and Leicester, not that that is good enough, mind.

Nah man, you're expecting too much from Pogba, it's only around next season when we'll see the true Pogba, did you not watch him for Juve, this is how he plays, also he played very well today.

Is that doing it right?

:)
Well he's not a 6,8 or 10. Doesn't tackle or score goals. Im.not sure what he does cos I.never followed Juve or France. I do watch all Manchester United matches though and he's been quite rubbish.

He needs players in front of him to thrive, and was constantly isolated today. Needs more pace around him and a more ambitious manager.

So we should get rid of him next season. ala di maria?

Mourinho has done well to get the best out of Herrera. Now he needs to do the same with Pogba.

He's fine, we're just getting started. We set up a system tonight designed purely to shut Liverpool down and it worked, Pogba was crucial in that and he played well off the ball. It was difficult in possession, he's triple marked every time he has the ball and we didn't play a game that suited him when attacking.

He's a bit rubbish for France too.

He needs time on the ball to be at his best and he doesn't get that in the Premier League and never will. He isn't very good.
