Aymeric Laporte | Txiki doesn't forgive (except for when he does)

Why? He was available last year (for a smaller release clause) when we were crying out for a centre back but we did nothing. He's even left footed to fit LVGs bizarre LCB philosophy.

I don't trust LVGs judgement on transfers at all.

Well we couldn't last year because our move for Herrera went through and Bilbao wouldn't like that would they?

Also CBJ means LCB spot free cos of our need for Rojo is gone.

First Gundogan, now Laporte, Leroy Sane next?

Been a very expensive ride though with Mangala, Otamendi and now Laporte.

Surprised Barca aren't going for him. Good start for City with Gundogan and Laporte basically sealed before the seasons over.

This could be like the De Bruyne deal. Very expensive but looks to be a very good buy.

Meh, lets hope their CB jinx continues. It seems they are unable to get a decent partner for Kompany.

Bah, I was really hoping they'd spunk silly money on Stones. Hopefully we go all out for Marquinhos then.

From what I've seen he's a far better player than either Mangala or Otamendi and, crucially, is a better fit for Pep's system as well. If they can solve that position for a few years they won't be bothered by that price.

City are signing all the players I like. All they need to do is to sign Griezmann now, and I will probably explode.

@Brown Toothpick I apologise. I didn't look at the club you support and wrongly assumed you were a United fan. Sorry bud. Thanks to the two lads who caught it!

Would love him here, but I don't think it would be wise to pay the clause with him injured right now. Also madness that they could pay 150 million for CBs in the last 3 years and the Laporte signing isn't without risks either. Would love to know if something could change if they would miss out on CL, but that will likely not happen. If I would be Gündogan or Laporte I would probably still wait till the next 2 matchdays are over, but money could solve that problem I guess..

I know right?
I always wanted us to sign Gundogan and Laporte, its a shame if City can sign them both.

Yep. All we needed this summer were Gundogan, Laporte and Griezmann.
They are that busy chasing kids instead of making sure we get the real quality in to make the team better. I am now starting to dread next season as well. They better have some blockbuster signing in the pipeline. I need some excitement after this season. Only Martial and De Gea have peformed at a high level, even Rashford is now looking what he is, an inexperienced kid.

Completely pointless to sign a defender for massive money who won't be fit to join in with pre season prep or start the season.

And when he is fully fit in Oct/Nov it's unlikely he'll get in the team because a pairing will have already been established.

Not to mention having to come back from injury in a new league that's about 5 times more intense than La Liga.

Gundogan, Laporte and Griezmann are so obvious and would instantly enable us to challenge for the title again.
All 3 have release clauses we can easily match, why do we let players like that go to City is beyond me.

We actually should have bought them last year instead of chasing after Neymar, Muller and Ramos....but how was Woodward supposed to know that, after all he is an investment banker.

I'll judge him after plays in the PL. There was a lot of wrist slitting when they signed Otamendi and he turned out to be crap. These City's directors have a pretty dire record when it comes to transfers.

City are not going to sign many this summer, he doesnt seem to sign many in a single window. laporte, gundogan and a striker and i think theyll be done, maybe a left back. They wont get Pogba IMO

Not pointless if you nail down one CB spot for the next several years. Though those ankle injuries can be tricky if they pop (no pun intended) back up again.

Seems realistic to me. I think Guardiola always wanted him before at Bayern, but then it got quiet. Probably the same reason as De Bruyne and Sterling. He decided he don't want them at Bayern, but at City.

Not bothered at all. He's a promissing defender, but won't be able to play until August and will need even more time to be able to play a full game, get accustomed to the Premier League etc. He's also pretty young and paying a huge amount of money for a player recovering from a serious injury doesn't seem to be the smartest move.

Could be another Mangala/Otamendi.

I just don't see any downside to signing Laporte, his injury notwithstanding. Blind can continue to partner with Smalling until Laporte is fit to play, whether that's in September or October. When that transition happens, Blind can be deployed in midfield. It's a long season and being out for one month, even two, is not a major problem.

It's obviously ideal to bring in a top CB who's ready to go on July 1 but unless someone has a great idea on to steal Hummels from Bayern there's really no one else we should be seriously considering. Stones would add depth, but apart from fitness he's not an upgrade on Jones.

We'll have to get used to this sort of thing happening I'm afraid. City are bringing in Pep and showing real ambition. Players will naturally want to go there. With LVG here and our current trajectory, we'll be shopping in the 'possible future stars' category, or looking at players nearing the end of their career looking for a payday. otherwise we'll need to look a level or two below for players.

Bore off. We're in the market for almost every available player in world football and have the money to commit to said deals.

It's such a laughable post. Laporte falls in the "possible future stars" category only.

City are signing a 21-year-old defender with a broken leg. We're doomed and can only hope for signing Crouch on a free.

Get a grip!

Can only imagine the headlines if it was us signing someone with a broken leg for €50m plus someone who had a bad back injury which kept them out for over a season. Seems Gundogan has fully recovered over his issues and Laporte may be okay too. Neither transfer is without their risks though.

They know they'll be playing under pep. Probably as big a draw as CL football and man city will throw money at them if they want them. Plus everyone knows they'll bounce back after a season out. Having said that, they're coming top 4. No doubts, we're useless.
