Aus v India Test series

Even the young Indian players will fail overseas in the Test arena. India need to let some their young talented players go abroad and play County Cricket etc which will be a learning experience for the likes Kohli and Sharma. But it won't happen at all not with the IPL around. I guess it just comes down to what you value higher.

The players concerned should take this decision too. Stint in county has definitely helped Indian cricketers.

Test Cricket is fine in India - you just need your media/fans to not cover the following overseas tours

Australia
England
South Africa

The rest of the time everything is peachy!

The way we're going, Pakistan will also beat us. Their bowling attack is brilliant.

Zaheer Khan looked a totally different bowler after his county stint. So did Ojha.

Tendulkar and Dravid are two best batsmen and no surprise they've been on county circuit.

But the BCCI are retards.

What's Fletcher's record in since taking over in Test matches?

125 overs without a wicket.

Ban cricket in India and lets focus on something else.

All good points.

Your county cricket point is an excellent one I think noone has raised so far. See, the way I see it, there are two ways around the problem of facing the moving and rising ball. One is to send players abroad for county stints as you say. But the one, which I'd prefer, is to prepare a variety of pitches in India. Having pitches conducive to pace bowling will not only help our youngsters but also give a reason to young kids to take up fast bowling. And we're now in the era where you can have whatever pitches you want, wherever. Problem is BCCI struck gold when we had batting line up like this one coming through and they had to do feck all to do with regards to these decisions.

India back in this by a poofteenth. 350 was around a par score for this pitch. Problem for India now is that they have to score 400 to make it a competitive game. With the Australian bowlers in the form they are, I doubt they'll get to 300.

Good bowling effort today, we'll still lose by an innings.

Utterly embarrassing. We're watching Laxman's last tour here.

Weren't India the number 1 team in Tests before the England series? What has changed? Genuine question.

Australia are improving nicely. Still not sure about that top order though. Feel against quality bowling they can be gone through. As the Saffers showed.

I don't think Cowan or Marsh cut the mustard but Warner certainly deserves his spot now. He and Watson might become a cracking opening pair. Still need to find a decent spin bowler.

Australia's batting will improve out of side once that clown Langer steps down as batting coach.

They had to play tests away from home.

As Ganguly said, that ranking was bullshit, India at No. without having beaten England or Australia away from home.

Don't worry the Indian test ranking will shoot up again, they aren't playing any for the next 7-8 months, and don't have an overseas tour for 2 years! So home tests, which they will inevitably win, and all will be rosy again.

Changes that need to happen NOW:

-Dhoni out as captain
-Laxman and Dravid given their due honors, and then told, please retire now.
-Rohit Sharma and Virat Kholi to be the spine of the new Indian test lineup.

That's rubbish.

We actually were a fine away side before the current debacle.

The corner was turned in early 2000.

We did win our last away series in England before 2010. And before that, had not lost in England since 98.

In Australia we were the better side in 2002 and again competed very well in the 2008/9 series which we lost 2-1 but deserved to atleast drew.

SA- we drew our last series and before that lost 2-1 but competed instead of surrendering

I am not saying we became an all conquering away side like Oz but we were performing to standard levels and not the current nadir level we are seeing now.

Even England has reached no.1 by just beating Oz away and that was an even worse Oz team than now, not to mention Oz conditions are not alien for England anyway. When was the last time England won a test series in Sub continent? Bar Oz no other team has done well in sub continent.

The performances right now are simply unacceptable and pathetic. But for a decade we were doing fine away from home. Somehow we have managed to throw that all away and it is going to get much worse when the trio retires. At least in England, the severity of the beating could be put down to injuries in bowling unit, no such excuse now.

One of the main reasons for this failure is

- Sehwag. I have been lambasted by other Indians for saying this but when it comes to test cricket, he is a flat track bully. Has not performed what so ever in Eng, SA and Oz. Only in SA he has a hundred I think. He should NOT open in such conditions what so ever.

Yeah that's not correct.

Dravid doesn't deserve to retire, the guy just had an amazing test series in England.

I agree with the rest of your points. Sick and tired of this team, our supposedly weak link the bowling has been absolutely fine in the whole series except that one innings in Sydney. Our batting has been fecking awful. Laxman will not play a test match more.

crappy - I know when Indian cricket turned the corner, I sat in the crowds when India toured Australia, both when Australia were absolutely dominant, and the series after that.

My point was in the last 12-18 months the ranking wasn't indicative of the teams real strength. You mention RSA(have you looked at their record at home?) that was the 1st series they've won at home since in a couple of years or something....Hell they only beat a shambolic SL side 2-1, while getting destroyed in Durban(same venue India, England and I think Australia beat RSA).

Indian ranking came into question to my mind, the same way, the rise of England won't be fully validated until they deal with Pakistan in Dubai and India in India.

KM - Dravid had a wonderful 2011(5 centuries I think?) but this has to be the time...can he have another great series, sure. But at what price for Indian cricket? These youngsters you have sitting around, also need time to bed in. I really do think, Laxman and Dravid need to go, though I have a feeling, only Laxman will be dropped, with Dravid being given 1 more chance.

Well you problem then is that you want the no.1 ranked team to be as dominant as the Oz team was. That is not going to happen always.

We were ranked no.1 then because we were the best of the bunch, that's it. We were best since we were regularly competing away from home instead of surrendering like now in addition to of course maintaining our dominance at home. Several people at that point pointed out we were no where near some of the best test teams of recent past.

Our bowling in this series has actually been very good IMO. Only struggled on the flat pitch of SCG. That is what most infuriating, in England we never had a chance due to pathetic bowling but here if batsmen had performed to any sort of level, we could have been somewhere.

Dare I say, it's time for Sachin to step down once he gets that century. He hasn't scored one is nearly 12 months his batting hasn't been anymore impressive then the rest of the Indian batsman.

That's just wrong. He's looked our best batsman.

I know that this 100th century bollocks is becoming a focal point for everyone involved. But I would like young players to stake their claim for a test berth before even pressuring Sachin to hang up his boots. Its atleast a year away before he will consider it tbh and that too in ODI.

Dhoni banned from the 4th test.

2nd time in 12 months India and Dhoni as captain has been pulled up for slow over rates, and as such, he has been banned a test match.

EDIT: Flying Fox already mentioned it a few posts ago :D

This is Mehro's fault. 3 massive defeats?! Has India or any team for that matter, suffered 4 inning defeats in a row? I can't believe there's that much difference between the sides. I'm calling shenanigans.

With the sheer number of international matches and the IPL in between, i dont see how the new youngsters will manage to get some county cricket under their belts. Its a massive learning experience and a great move.
