Aus v India Test series

Hussey had a definitve sound though, the hot spot isn't conclusive always. Was there anything on snicko?

BCCI have been retarded in their refusal to use DRS, the hotspot got things wrong against England so they've declined to use it.

Thing is its not that it got things wrong. If a hotspot shows us then there has definitely been contact with the ball/pad etc. but if it doesn't it doesn't necessarily mean that there wasn't contact. Its an aid as is everything else it isn't and shouldn't be expected to be a full-proof system.

Probably the greatest period of bowling i've ever seen from any player.

I agree, he nearly won the series off his own back there and it was amazing to watch, shame he never got that 100 up at Trent Bridge I think.

India all out for 282. Aussies bowled very well, Hilf was particularly impressive.

Was at the 'G today, cracking day of test cricket. I'd say India have their noses in front but if the lead stretches to 260+ it could get tough. Hussey looks in good touch and from what I've seen of Pattinson, his good technique should serve him well to accompany Huss in the middle.

Ponting hitting form as well. I reckon he'll get a couple of hundreds in this series. He just has that look about him. Something has really turned in this match. I've seen many people go from having their knives our to really willing him on. I reckon once he gets that test hundred, the shackles will let go.

Michael Clarke must be thanking his lucky stars that Ponting has had his issues for the past 2 years and he managed to inherit the captaincy. He's far too erratic and has struggled against quality opposition for a while now. The lack of hundreds against India or England over the past 2 years is worrying given his early career form. I hope he can finally show us what he's really capable of for long periods of time. I'd love for him to hit the same form of Ponting from 05-07. Virtually unstoppable

Oh and Haddin might as well enjoy these last couple of games of his test career. Pathetic.

The slider to bell. Bamboozled. Had absolutely no clue. Or the Strauss behind the legs. Never have I seen a ball spin that far in my life time.

I always got the feeling with Warne that the more he wanted to win the more he got it to spin, he's one the greatest sportsmen I have ever seen. I remember trying to emulate his leg breaks the entire summer in my back garden, I bowled hundreds of balls and only a few of them were decent leg breaks. I was in awe of him all summer. Luckily for us he dropped Pietersen in the slips and the rest as they say is history.

Aussies all out for 240, India need 292 to win.

Excellent partnership between Pattinson & the Hilf. Dhoni's field placements were a bit strange considering the Indians were bowling well & the runs made by the last pair could be vital in the end. Should be a good chase, still enough movement there to keep the bowlers interested.

wtf Dhoni?

How many fecking times does he do this?

I woke up at 5 and took a day off from work for this shit, sat with a headache watching James Pattinson and Ben fking Hilfenhaus

Ponting could've been out once yesterday, wrongly given not out. Hussey once yesterday(didn't see it but read about it) and twice today. Haddin in the first innings.

Suddenly the Aussies have stopped chirping about DRS.

No interviews from the players asking for uniformity.

No they haven't. Through all of those decision, the commentators kept going on, that if the system was in place, India would be better off. I completely agree with them. It's cost both teams massively.

Dhoni goes absolutely retarded when it comes to field setting of the tailenders.

I feel your pain Zing. I had to wake up at 5 in an extremely cold weather

Good for us to get our standard MCG thrashing out of the way.

Great performance by Australia, in particular our quicks, but there are still some questions over our batting. Warner has credits in the bank for his 123* on a green Hobart deck, so his mediocre contribution shouldn't cause too much concern. Same goes with Marsh, though his good performances came before some time away with injury. Clarke is also a slight worry; he seems to have a tendency to play on and apart from two recent centuries (151 v SA; 139 v NZ), hasn't done too much with the bat. Haddin I feel is hanging on by a whisker, though the calls for Wade have quitened since the break from Shield cricket and his poor performances in the BBL, and a real shame that Paine's had a horror run of injuries.

I see India have turned up with the same batting ineptitude as they did in England.

Most over rated side in quite some time.

Seen Sehwag do it in tough conditions(his first innings in this test was great), seen Dravid do it, seen Sachin do it, seen Laxman do it.

For some fecking reason, not more than 1 of them can do it at the same time.

You know it could just be that the wicket was quite difficult to bat on and something that the Indian players were not use too. Dry dustry wickets in comparison to slightly green with a tinge of moisture is always going to put players off. Especially with such a short prep time.

As with the last series here, I see India losing in Sydney, but finding good form in the last two tests as they get to grips with the conditions.

Jez, Haddin is as good as gone. He's a specialist keeper and has looked no better then Gilchrist in his last series since he took over. His batting is selfish and downright stupid. I can safely say that as soon as Paine is not injured, he'll be straight into this side.

Clarkes been a flat track bully for a few years now. He was great when he was younger. Big centuries everywhere, but he's drifted off in recent years. I honestly don't think he has coped well with the loss of better cricketers around him. It's not that he doesn't have the talent, but that security blanket he had when a younger Hussey, Ponting and Gilchrist were all floating around, allowed him to play his natural game more freely. Now that he's got that extra burden to step up, he's shied away.

And i'll say it again, Ponting's issues have saved his arse from the media over the past 2 years.

Haddin is an awful keeper, in reality and technically. In my cricket coaching course we were told that Haddin was the worst technical example for a keeper playing international cricket, and his batting has really gone downhill.

I've been saying since 2009 that Paine was the better option, such a shame for him about the injuries.

The theatre that is test cricket resumes today (well in about 10 hours); thoughts?

Australia remain with the same team that pounded India at the MCG.

Can Tendulkar get his 100th 100 at the 100th SCG test?

2 down now, the wall gone.

Pattinson gets another. He is a very impressive bowler. 59/4.

Very good session for the Aussies. Sachin's played very well and if he gets someone to stick with him then he might get the 100th 100 today. Pattinson continues to impress.

There's a nice crop of young fast bowlers coming through all around the world.

Shame the most talented of them is in jail.

Who?

Pattinson is something special btw. Although our batting has made him look a bit too good.

Good recovery from Clarke and Punter there, after another train wreck of a start. Marsh really needed some more game time before being brought back, given that Khawaja hadn't been doing THAT badly. When fit, I'd definitely have Marsh ahead of Khawaja but he is looking seriously underdone.

Warner has started his test career curiously. He's shown he can stay at the crease for a long period in first class cricket, but he's only proven that to us once down in Hobart at test level. I thought the Channel 9 commentators had it spot on in their comparisons between Warner and Cowan, in that Warner should really get it into his head that the first half hour of every innings you have to defend with soft hands and work the ball around. Finally, a bit pissed off with Cowan's lbw decision - never did I have the feeling that it "looked out", but that's cricket I guess...

I'd have hoped that Pattinson would get to test his mettle against a reliably solid batting lineup after tearing through the Kiwis on helpful surfaces, but alas that hasn't been the case. The pitch has looked like quite a good batting surface given that it's day one at the SCG, so the lack of preparation by the Indians (four days in total at Manuka, wtf?) is really showing itself once again. The English learnt their lesson after the 06/07 drubbing and gave themselves four first class practice matches at test venues before the 10/11 tour, and the rigorous preparation more than paid off. Unfortunately India didn't possess the wisdom to do the same.
