Having old fullbacks who cannot cross really hurts us. This is the department which has grown the most in modern football and we are still ages behind the rest, relying on two past it wingers. Fullbacks need to be constantly running up and down the pitch, and they need to be able to deliver a good cross. Valencia just kind of floats the ball in, and Young really lacks the stamina to transition from defense to attack.
Now, I can do with Valencia, who, still, more or less what is expected of a fullback, but Young in someone we definitely need to improve on. If we set out next season having to depend on him, then we can say goodbye to any kind of title challenge and will have to entertain ourselves once again seeing us trying to hang on to top 4.
