Hopefully this LB experiment ends.

He should never be our starting LB in a big game.

He looked like a winger shoehorned into left back tonight.

Didn’t get much of a handle on Trippier in any capacity. Was often isolated by all three of Martial, Sanchez and and Lingard.

feck knows what he was doing for that first goal. Just watched as Eriksen waltzed through.

Don't need a LB this summer, get to feck, he had a purple patch of about 5 games where he was good in attack, defensively he's always been a liability as he's not a LB, tonight Spurs targeted him and demolished him.

Wanted to come in and post something negative about his performance.

Read the last page and it's been said already.

Feck off playing Young as first choice.

Have some bird shit.

I don't understand how Jose can come out and wax lyrical about Shaw saying there's no better LB around then drop him again for Ashley Young

Time to be dropped. I've had it with this guy. Shaw has to start from now on and Young can be a rotational option.

I've always hated Young, way before he joined us.

His decent spell as our LB should end now. Sell him and sign a proper LB to compete with Shaw.

Wow that was really bad. Not sure if tactical that he was tucking on so much or his positioning was just way off.

I've summed up his display for those who missed the game:

Take it down the left, cut back on his right.
Take it down the left, cut back on his right. Cross.
Take it down the left, cut back on his right.
Get caught out of position
Take it down the left, cut back on his right.

Repeat x 5

had that good spell but has been poor for a while now. Now Shaw is fit and playing okay he should be in the team.

Kind of inevitable that he'll get exposed against better teams. Shouldn't have been picked

If Mourinho isn't confident in Shaw, buy a LB.
This guy isn't one. Ball watching less than a minute into the game.

As left backs Luke Shaw>Ashley Young. Strange recall.

Just gonna quote myself.

Spurs had endless joy down our left. Young lost Eriksen completely for the first Spurs goal and was marooned as the ball came in for the second.

Its inexplicable to choose a converted winger over a natural left back, especially as the natural left back has been in good form lately.

Had a mare, you could see it coming after the first goal. Fair play to Pochettino and Spurs, they were relentless in going at him and succeeded, not by chance

Should’ve at least been changed when it was glaringly obvious that they were targeting him. He was all over the place from the first minute.

It has to be remembered that, over the course of the season, Young has been our best leftback. Hell, he's been our best fullback from either side, and one of the best in the league. He's not perfect and he had a poor match against Spurs, but lets not pretend that he hasn't been good this season.

I do hope Shaw gets another chance to cement his first team position, but if he doesn't take that opportunity I've got no problem with Young being first choice for the rest of the season. Or if Shaw does cement that role, Young can potentially overtake Valencia on the right.

Shaw should've played, Mourinho clearly doesn't trust him still. I know Jones is getting most the flack for the mistakes but Young is almost just as culpable. Once Trippier played the ball in on the first goal, he just stood back and watched Eriksen score, made no effort to help out his team mate.

Is it just me or does Mourinho seem to play Young at left back in away matches and Shaw in home matches and plays the lower league cup games? It's very odd. Don't get me wrong Young has had a decent season but he has gone off the boil a bit in the last couple of games. Shaw hasn't put a foot wrong since he has come back into the team, Mourinho needs to put more faith in him.

He isn’t a left back. Doesn’t make runs. Pathetic we are starting him but I have no idea about half of what Jose thinks these days

He's playing this position as if he's still a winger. Doesn't link with anyone, trying to always cut inside to cross, doesn't look for a pass.

He clearly doesn't link with midfield or the winger on his flanks well. He shouldn't be our main LB. Shaw for all his crossing problem always tends to pass, move and link with other players on his flank because he's a left back by nature, Young isn't.

That was a good period when he played as a left back but he should be back as a squad option.

I don't know, I disagree with the latest comments, just because we made it difficult for ourselves and overall, play wasn't the best in the first half doesn't mean a player had a bad game. I think the opposite actually, he was decent and solid on the right today. I actually like to focus on his game and he's a very smart player, learned the position very well and pretty quickly, always knows what to do in which situation, when to step out and when to stay with player.

There was a one situation when a fullback was overlapping and he was doubled but managed to stay composed and in a good position so he didnt give a player chance for a pass to his fullback and didnt give him enough space to create anything for himself, to get a shot away either. He's playing with good aggression for a fullback and I like that he likes to win the ball ahead of the defender rather then sit back and wait for him to come 1v1 against him, it is normal that you dont always win the ball and can stay out of position but thats what covering is from, if you dont win the ball like that youll have to wait for a mistake and actually this is one of the ways how we create good opportunities to attack, building form the back we are not as effective.

I like Ashley Young, shame he's not younger or wasn't made into fullback earlier

When he’s on the pitch, we make him our primary attacking outlet. That’s the problem.

When Young plays, all the play goes through him. Everything is about getting the ball to Young so he can deliver cross after cross. Most of which hit the first man.

It’s depressing to watch at times. All the “Ferguson era” players should be gone in my opinion.

Yeah let's sell DeGea that would sort all our problems.

That moment when we had a corner and he got the rebound about 35 yards from their goal, with most of our players still inside their box waiting for a delivery he just turns away and passes the ball back behind the halfway line. Really Ashley?

He had his 3-4 good games earlier and now normal service has resumed. We need to buy proper fullbacks in the summer - an upgrade on Valencia and a player who can back-up Shaw. Get rid of him, Darmian and Blind.
