Ashes I - 2013 - In England

 Probably the same guys who didn't think spanking the Aussies at Lord's was much fun. This is a really good team, as good as England have had for a long while, all it's missing is a Flintoff at 6 and then it's scary good. Some guys are out of form but a positive mindset really does do wonders, even if it rains for the rest of the day it would have been nice to get to 80-1 after 20 overs and say to the Aussies we reckon we can beat you any type of way.

I just don't rate our batting that highly. Would like to see Tremlett back in the side soon as he was great before his injury.

Not much going for Australia. Shame, would've been nice to see if England would've lasted the day without help from Mother Nature.

Don't see this lasting beyond tea, light doesn't look great.

I severely doubt that England would have lasted given the quality of the bowling so far, but then I guess the conditions have made it harder to bat and the stop start nature of the game probably hurts the batsmen more.

Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Prior, all average 40 odd? If England get someone decent at 6 then it's as good a top order as I remember.

They were great between 09-11. Can't remember the last time Trott made a century for us in tests and Cook is having a rough period. Prior is brilliant in my opinion and Pieterson usually gets one big score a 3/4 match test series to keep his average up.

Trott made a century in New Zealand. I only know because I couldn't remember myself when was the last time he made one.

So he did. Though I imagine that's one of a (very) few these last couple of years. He's still generally been pretty reliable but this series has been gunk.

It's a class Top 5 potentially, they just need to bring it together, Pietersen more often than not plays a key innings every series.

What would be the latest they would need to start again for Australia to have a decent chance of this?

Three since the turn of 2012, once in India and Sri Lanka. He only has 9 Test centuries. For some reason I always think he has more.

I like this, probably the most annoying way we could beat them, and that makes me happy.

Stupid weather

Well done to England. Australia have at least shown some fight this match, hopefully they can win 1 of the remaining 2 to get some confidence ahead of the return series down under.

England should look to rest Anderson and, possibly, Swann imo. No need to risk injury to your best bowler now the Ashes are retained.

It's odd how cricket works. Had Australia scored those 15 runs in the first test and had rain not intervened here they could've easily been 2-1 up.

In any case, England are the better team, they haven't been at their absolute best but they haven't needed to be.

We are the better team but haven't really proven it this series yet. We would have have almost certainly been bowled out and Aus have been better than us every day this test. I would like us to win one of the remainder of the two games so we have won the series fair and square, although I am of course delighted that the weather held up for us today.

I hope Australia win the next 2.

Find it extremely disappointing that the rest of the series will be played without the pressure of the Ashes.

I'd like to see Tremlett in for the next game although i'd be surprised if he came in. Bresnan hasn't exactly done anything wrong but Tremlett's much more likely to take a wicket.

I'd have liked to have seen Taylor for Bairstow as well but it seems he's not made the squad, Bairstow hasn't been the worst English batsmen so I'm guessing he might be saved by the three established batsmen Cook, Trott, and Prior doing worse, but he really doesn't look ready for test cricket based on this years performances. Only so long they can go off one match against South Africa last year.

Probably a 60/40 at the moment imo. First test lottery, second test complete Aus collapse and capitulation England playing pass mark cricket to win, 3rd test starting down the barrel of defeat and saved by the rain. It's a bummer but the conditions are part of cricket.

Tremlett for Bresnan would be a good choice as Tremlett is the better bowler. Remember watching Taylor for Leicestershire a couple of years ago and he looked very talented, no harm in giving him the nod over Bairstow who has done sod all with a very poor average for test cricket as a specialist batsman.

60-40 seems about right. I think you guys may well sneak the ashes back in Australia but a lot will depend on the form of both sides batsman, as the bowling isn't really an issue.

It will certainly be complete roads or flat gridded decks to bowl on.

I'd be surprised if Australia win them back this winter. It's extremely unlikely they'll do so if England can win two matches there and I don't think Australia are consistent enough to stop that happening.

Think they have a slim chance if any, their bowlers would enjoy those pitches a lot more and a lack of a good spinner as well as England having a world class one wouldn't hurt them as much. Clarke's been a monster at home off late and if a few other key players fire, they can get in with a chance. England need to get their top order back to form by then, the likes of Cook and Trott would be crucial to stand their ground against those bowlers on bouncy tracks.

Despite Australia being written off completely the series has been closer than results suggests. First test was too close for comfort. England were convincing winners in the second, and Australia would have been easy winners had weather not intervened.

Oh shit, I didn't realize the next game was tonight. I think if Aus had have won that game they would have got some good momentum out of that

Monty Panesar has been fined by police after urinating on nightclub bouncers who ejected him from a club in Brighton in the early hours of Monday.
Went for a slash outside the off stump?

Weather looks reasonably okay, for this one. Little bits of rain predicted for most days but nothing too serious looking.

Onions for Bresnan, please.

Surprise surprise it's a road at Durham. England won the toss and batting.

Disease, England unchanged.

Birds in for starc! See him in the first session. Shame he is comin in with the series gone.

England's curious Bresnan fetish continues. Won't be easy batting first, this morning. Probably the right decision though.

What should we expect from Bird, ghali?

Tight compact lines and good consistency. Not express but tight.

We should expect.... Lol.
