Ashes I - 2013 - In England

Somewhere in the dressing room is a whiteboard that has "don't bowl wide slappable shit or full onthe pads to cook" scrawled on it in permanent marker.

A good era? cagey so far. Cook literally not touching anything outside off. Doubt Lyon will take any wickets on this deck.

Hard start by England. Pitch seaming and could easily be 2 wickets down, so they have done well to get into the 2nd hour without loss of wickets.

300+ looks like a great score, so one player needs to make a good score.

Some parts are more dated than others, but there doesn't seem to have been any sort of masterplan for the development.

It's all ad hoc and looks like a mess.

Clearly out. Another fecking abysmal decision from the umpire. Clearly heard a noise.

Well done DRS and the 3rd umpire (haven't said that too often). Poor umpiring. Again.

ooops

How did the umpire think that wasn't out? At least they got the right decision eventually that time

England bring all this pressure on themselves. Run rate abysmal again, no pressure on Aussies.

I thought they weren't going to give it .

Take out that 180 and root had been pretty poor. But I guess take out any big score from anyone and they're not as good.

If you take out that 180 Root has been worse than poor.

Still not convinced he's a better option than Compton, at all when you consider that
hat decision means Bairstow gets a game.

I reckon its a technical issue as well, watch his front foot he squares himself up to every ball before its bowled.

Lol fletch. I mean not really any batsman has dominated at all but to miss out on this road
Is criminal.

Jammy cnut Trott.

Seriously don't understand how you can't see Watson as the all rounder batting six. He's bowled well in every game and te cnut can't bat time at all.

It's bizarre.

I know this is test match n all but fecking hell this has been a yawn fest so far. Apart from few balls from Watson, none of the other bowlers have threatened at all. Cook seems stuck at the crease.

Because he actually does a better job, as a makeshift opener, than your openers do. It would be better for him to be six but your top order would look even more shaky than it currently does.

I don't get what has happened, pretty much every time we've started an innings this series, they've fannied about for an hour or so & one or other of Cook & Root has got out. We're used to seeing Cook so positive, from the off, I don't get what's going on.

The only player who can get away with sticking there without scoring much, but not looking in any trouble, is Boycott

He's never been an opener though. It would solve the 6 issue and he could bowl without pressure to perform with the bat.
In odi's he can just plant the foot on the flat odi deck and slay through the line. But where craft and graft is needed he mays well bat 6 where his innings isn't defined as shaping the innings if he gets out when were in the shit it means fick all and if he comes in under no pressure at 4 for heaps then he can just tee off.

3rd consecutive maiden. This is boring.

I dunno, England have never been one for high run rates. Aside from that 2010/11 period where the team was scoring 500+ with ease a lot of games, England have always been a pretty dull batting side. Coupled with most the top order being in horrific form, its no surprise the run rate is so low.

 it's trotts bread and butter to dance across and flick on the onside from outside or on off.

Why on earth do we have three slips and not 3 silly mid on's.

Ooooof yikes... They miss you hit tier bowling.

The lines to cook have been perfect. Fantastic example of great lines.

Honestly I love Pietersen. Awesome to watch on full form.

feckinnnnn SEEYA.

160 balls to go out like a sucker. Just feck off

Bird has bowled brilliantly to get this wicket.
Watson went close but Bird gets the reqard

4-155 at tea.. Big session for Australia there. Bird bowled immaculately.

A bit shitting the Starc was preferred.
