Arturo Vidal

Didn't hear any insider stories, from the outside it seemed more a partying/gambling problem :).

Wouldn't say i want him gone. I was sceptical because he didn't ssem the kind of player we needed when we were still a Pep-team.
He is a great destroyer if you face a team with a dominant midfield, but we (as Bayern) hardly ever face those; Thiago can fight but is infintely more skilled on the ball as a playmaker, and there's always Martinez who can gatekeep a midfield pretty well, too.

I honestly doubt any top-7 european team will go for him at his age, but you never know and there are many clubs around with too much money.

The drinking problem stories stem from disappointed Juve fans if you ask me, I'm sure they are exaggerated.
He continues to be an absolute world class midfielder when fit and in form, and since Chile don't play at the WC, next season we'll likely see Vidal being fit already in the first half of the season. He always took quite some time to get to his best after Chile's Copa Americas in past summers, and admittedly had some horrendous games.

I'm not strictly opposed to selling him since we've got fresh blood in Tolisso and Goretzka, but we are kidding ourselves if we think those two will reach Vidal's level easily and certainly.

Vidal already had plenty of off-pitch issues at juventus, though this being juventus they managed to keep it all quiet until they got fed up and decided to sell him

Still didn't stop him from devouring entire midfields whole

He's always been the natural heir of Roy Keane, really surprised United never signed him

We tried!

Vidal and Alexis together would be great. He strikes me as a Mourinho player.

He strikes me as a Mou style player too.

Vidal and Sánchez played together for Colo Colo in 2006, winning two or three consecutive leagues (Bravo was the goalie in that team). It'd be great to see them playing together again as their chemistry is just so awesome (as can be seen in Chile games: they constantly assist each other).

Few years too late imo. Plus we should invest in more younger players .

I'd be on board with this provided it wasn't a huge fee and didn't cost us getting another midfielder. If he was a rotation player or first mid off the bench I think that would be a tremendous asset to have. Hell even if he started for a year or two and let a younger mid (like a Nicolo Barella) integrate into the first team.

I always liked Vidal and still remember the transfer thread from a few years ago.

I dont mind signing older player but Vidal isnt the midfield destroyer he was at Juventus. It isnt like he is a bad player but with him not being as good as he once was combined him being drunk all the time... i dont see him as a great signing. I would prefer some younger/better player.

We've got a good blend of older/ experienced players and young players at United. However, I think Vidal may be past his best and I would rather have an young energetic midfielder. Jorginho looks okay and I guess we don't really have competition in trying to secure his services. May actually be a great foil for Pogba and Matic.

I dont get the comments that hes in decline and that the ship as sailed. Everytime ive seen him play this season he still is a monster in midfield. We could still get some 2 world class seasons from him.

If we sign him we automatically get a top 3 PL midfielder

Oh right! Hes 31 next season, 2 years older than the redcafes official drooling-alzheimer retirement home age

We all wanted a prime and awesome Vidal 3 years ago but time waits for no one and this ship as well and truly sailed, lets go all in for Savic!

Vidal might turn out to be another Schweinsteiger. It's better for us to stay clear.

He'll be in jail soon like the Bayern President if he doesn't sort himself out..

He's also an alcoholic known for drink driving and showing up drunk at the training sessions.

I hope we are nowhere near this rotten cnut. He sets a very, very bad example for our younger players.

That's what I was thinking. Along with his off field problems. This was exactly the type if desperate transfer mistakes we made post Ferguson. I hope we have learned.

We don't have comedians dealing with transfers anymore. Jose is very good and if he is convinced then it's good enough. Dont think I have seen him signing injury prone player.

On top of the above...

This is also one of them times when the age might actually be an issue. How many top class box to box central midfielders last over 30+?

Vidal is a top class player but a lot of his game is reliant on that monster engine and general physicality he possesses. I don’t think he has the capacity to transfer into an alternate type of midfielder as he ages.

If you can get him on a 2 year contract, sure, that'd be great.

He's turned us down before, is 30 and is in decline. What could go wrong?

Seriously though I haven't seen him play for years. I'd rather we went for someone a bit younger and on the up.

He’s not declining. Just because he’s 30, doesn’t mean he’s declining. We could get at least 2 good seasons out of him.

I’m all for this. He’s my favourite CM alongside Pogba.

Out of interest, when was the last time you watched your favourite CM?

We all know you haven’t that that you will spend some juicy 25 million pounds on him :) Thanks :wenger:

(He is, when he’s motivated like right now, still one of the best midfielders we ever had by the way. Monstrous season since Heynckes arrived)

I wasn't being serious. I have no opinion on this outside of wanting someone a bit younger/hungrier.

If he wants a pay-cut and only a 1+1 year contract, I'm all for it :D

Heynckes threw him out of the squad when he arrived to get his drinking problem under control. The stories are endless.

Undoubtedly we will find some dumb Premer League club to pay thirty million or more. Probably Chelsea, but Woody will do the trick as well to be honest.
I don’t really care, I just want him gone.

I don't understand why this thread is even active at all.

We don't need another 30 year old past-it-player in our team. He was the culprit behind Bayern's loss against Real last season. He will also make the atmosphere in our dressing room toxic because he has a clash of egos with Sanchez, they have rivalry about who is the biggest star in Chilean football, they don't like each other (I learned all these from Tim VIckery). Vidal also drinks a lot, we don't need such an ill-disciplined pro at our club.

If we are to sign any midfielder, who could be available from Bayern, that should be Thiago, he's a creative midfielder, we could do with him. However, I'm very skeptical of signing any more players from Bayern at all. The last two we had signed from them ended up being disasters for a variety of reasons. Bayern don't let go their players unless they are useless or unless their contract is finishing and the player won't sign a new one.

Overall, we should be signing young and experienced pros, like City are doing with Aymeric Laporte. We need players who can stay at our club for many years playing at a very high level.

A few years back, sure. But much rather go for someone younger and without the baggage Vidal seemingly carries.

True but he's heading towards the end of his career now. We risk ending up with the old keane now who allowed his off the pitch antics do the talking. That wasn't nice

United are under new management so the time united acted as bayern/real dumping ground is over
