Arturo Vidal

Feel like Mourinho is on a mission to rewind time. Alexis, Matic, Vidal, Pogba... these were the type of players we needed to buy when SAF retired.

This will pass though, unless it's peanut to get him which is unrealistic

Pogba seems like a weird fit with those names, but there is a classic Mourinho "experience and proven quality over upside" to those other names. Sanchez and Matic are very good players, but in 2-3 years we could end up with an awkward stage of them being competent and famous and well paid and so tough to upgrade on or get rid of but not quite as productive as they are now.

Every time i've seen bayern play this season he was still very much a monster

Why is he seemingly on the way out them?

Because they will sign Goretzka. I post here few days a go that next Sanchez will ask his buddy Vidal here. And i still think it's possible. He could be good signing for a ~2 years. Pogba, Matic, Vidal, Herrera... It doesn't sound bad. Of course, i would take somebody like Savic ahead of him but he would cost a lot more than Vidal. Or maybe both? Fellaini and Carrick out.

Really wouldn't mind if the fee is reasonable (i.e. 20mil or less when considering the current market). He'd be a 2 year rental, but along with the boost with Sanchez, and if he could give the energy for over 3/4's of the season, he'd put us near the top. Maybe show Herrera how it's done. Plus, he'd be rested after no WC over the summer.

It’d be absolutely great to have such Ann experienced player sharing the midfield with Pogba. Do go for him.

If he is one of two CMs coming in then hell yes.

If he's free then why not? We could always let him go in January or swap him for Aubameyang if he flops

I'll pass on the 31 year box-to-box player who loves boozing.

on a free wouldn't be a bad deal at all. Sure he's past it but is still very useful player to have in our ranks.

no thanks, there are a lot of talented midfielders around, we dont need to rely on getting Vidal. I hope Jose sees it the same way.

Someone who has too many off the pitch issues is not the profile of player that we want or need, no matter how good they are. Would rather avoid this one and buy someone who's going to respect the manager and the team.

Why is he seemingly on the way out them?
1. he is not the youngest anymore and considering the way he treats his body will probably not be able to keep playing his intense game, which is reliant on running a lot, for a long time.
2. Goretzka and Tolisso play the same box-to-box midfield role. Then there are also Martinez,Thiago,James and Rudy who need playing time in the midfield three.

Too many injuries and off field problems and at 31 it's a bad idea, his chance has gone, he also isn't really what we need, I can see him going to Turkey or back to Italy.
What injuries? He already played 25 games this season and 41 last season.

He’s not the Vidal that was at Juve when he was the best all round midfielder in the world and with all of his off pitch problems and declined form over the past two seasons there’s no reason to sign him other than the fact he’s Sanchez’s mate.

We should be looking at Kroos, Verratti, Thiago, Weigl, an 100% fit Wilshere, Seri and Saul Niguez as it’s those types of player that we need in midfield to complement Pogba and Matic.

If we keep Herrera then we’ve got a box to box midfielder and in Fosu-Mensah we’ve got a ball winner so a conductor type alongside Pogba, Matic, Herrera, Fosu-Mensah, Pereira and McTominay which is serious strength in depth.

Doesn’t sound like someone I’d want at United then, especially considering the reported disciplinary problems he has.

I'd take him if he was genuinely cheap. Big risk though. At least Hargreaves had one viable leg.

Unlike Sanchez, Vidal was realistically a 'now or never' player when he moved from Italy. Missed our chance - fair enough, you can't buy 'em all, and we got the real peach from that Juve midfield trio - and with his style of play and injury record he's going to age hard, and soon.

Whoscored has him as Bayern's second best performing player by average performance and their eighth highest playing time by minutes. Now I realise statistical information is open to debate but that doesn't read as a washed up player to me. He's also got five goals and two assists from midfield which is pretty decent if unspectacular.

Don't forget Ronnie! ;)

Would have been perfect in the summer of 2014 but not now. Wanted him then but he will be 31 in 4 months time and looks like he has off field issues too along with his knee problems. At this point, he has more of a chance to be Hargreaves 3.0 rather than the Juve version of him.

As I mentioned above, those who talk abot „all his injuries“ and his „awful performances“ don’t watch a lot of Bayern games.

No. We need someone younger but with the exact same qualities as Vidal has. We already have Matic who is going to be 30 and may need to be replaced in 2/3 years. Signing Vidal would leave us needing to replace 2 midfielders after 2/3 years so it adds to the problem.

He has had a mediocre season, wouldn't be my preferred midfield signing. He should have joined in 2014. He would still be a starter for us of course, but I think we need a different type of midfielder than Vidal.

Buying a player above the age of 30 with a known drinking problem who is obviously in decline. Why not?

Apparently he hasn’t been very good lately and he’s turning 31 in May. Also this bit by @Luis DC in the Sanchez thread:

All in all; Do not want.

I understand that he is 30, but has a privileged biotype that allows him to run over and over, a bit like Sanchez, and an agressive style that could fit the Premier League.
I mantain everything I said about Vidal, but to be fair none of these indisciplines where at his clubs, mostly with chilean national team.
The guy is good and as Sanchez has a winning mentality and train a lot. He probably will move from Bayern because the germans bought Goretzka and also has Tolisso, maybe you can get a good price. I respect him as a player but I dislike him a lot as a person.

His injuries at Juve slowed him down a lot, he's never been the same player since, he'll be 31 at the start of next season and his attitude and off field issues are a headache we don't need. We've bought two broken down CM's off Bayern, lets no t make it a hat-trick, he isn't even the type of CM we need.

After Schweinsteiger, I wouldnt want United to sign another club's "legends". Plus, like others said, the recent performances don't warrant a place in United squad now.
