Arturo Vidal

After getting Sanchez cheap, we'll go big on one of top Midfielders. I can't see it being Vidal

Just paper bullshit because we've signed a Chilean. I doubt we'd get another sassoon after buying our first.

What’s with this drunk stuff? He had a DUI a few years ago. Doesn’t mean he’s a hardcore alcoholic who goes home and drinks whisky until he’s black out drunk.

Definitely 4 years ago. I don’t think anyone would touch him with a ten foot pole now he’ll probably end up in China

Really lazy journalism. We just signed a Chilean, lets go for another!

Yup. Remember when we were linked to every Dutch player who played at the WC after Van Gaal was hired? Fun times.

How much do you think he'd cost in the summer?
I checked him on "transfermarkt.de" a bit. He had one midsized injury (meniscus) in 13/14 - 28 days out, all the other stuff were either minor muscle problems, bruised ribs; that cost him a week each max or the flu :) I'd say for his position and playstyle he's been remarkably injury-free.
Still i doubt anyone would pay the 35 Mio transfermarkt thinks he's worth right now. end of this season he will have 1 year contract left and i doubt he'll go for over 15 Mio, 20Mio tops.

Heynckes threw him out of the squad when he arrived to get his drinking problem under control. The stories are endless.

Undoubtedly we will find some dumb Premer League club to pay thirty million or more. Probably Chelsea, but Woody will do the trick as well to be honest.
I don’t really care, I just want him gone.

Didn't hear any insider stories, from the outside it seemed more a partying/gambling problem :).

Wouldn't say i want him gone. I was sceptical because he didn't ssem the kind of player we needed when we were still a Pep-team.
He is a great destroyer if you face a team with a dominant midfield, but we (as Bayern) hardly ever face those; Thiago can fight but is infintely more skilled on the ball as a playmaker, and there's always Martinez who can gatekeep a midfield pretty well, too.

I honestly doubt any top-7 european team will go for him at his age, but you never know and there are many clubs around with too much money.

Transfermarkt isn't a very accurate site to get transfer values imo, as the market value on there varies depending on transfer fees and also how well the player's team perform. So, players values will double/triple on the site due to an expensive transfer, while other top performing players values' will remain dormant due to playing in an average team. So, the player's values aren't only dependent on individual performance. Vidal's value will also go down in the summer due to his age.
Saying that, £12/15m wouldn't be too big of a risk for a decent enough midfielder. Matic also arguably showed signs of decline in previous years, but he's still a solid signing.

I'd take him as long as we signed someone like SMS as well. Would give him time to bed in and develop over the next season or 2

He is a good player and found his old form under Heynckes.
I am sure his days in Munich are over because of Goretzka. Bayern wants the FC Germany.

So I think we should go for him or he ends up playing for Chelsea.

Is he over his drink problem yet?

At his best he is world class. The perfect right sided CM in a midfield 3.

Pogba-Matic-Vidal would be the best midfield in the world given that Madrid are off the boil this season.

He won't be worth the wages and contract length he'd want though. I'd happily give him a 2 year contract on 200k a week but no player of that age would accept that and rightly so, mind.

Some polar opposite views on Vidal, ranging from World Class to has been and nothing inbetween..!

Would have been perfect in the summer of 2014 but not now. Wanted him then but he will be 31 in 4 months time and looks like he has off field issues too along with his knee problems. At this point, he has more of a chance to be Hargreaves 3.0 rather than the Juve version of him.

Yep time for Man. United to sign him was 2015 imo. Would've been a terrific signing considering that was the year they got Schweinstiger and Schnederlein.

Think he'd struggle more in the premier league now.

There's no room surely either. Pogba and Matic are locks for those two midfield spots so think it makes more sense to sign a younger player like Savic from Lazio.

Would much prefer Verratti to vidal these days. Younger and less prone to injury

I always wonder why is knee is still cited. He had problems with it once and not since then. He never had any problems with his knee since he arrived in Munich and is one of the most injury free players in our squad, only missing 7 games in his two and a half seasons here....

It's what people last remember and just throw it out there to try and give credibility to their opinion. It's just lazy talk. We all fall for that trap on occasion.

Out of interest, how has he been performing for you and what about this season?

Would be a great player, but given his age and Matic also getting on a bit, it’s probably wiser to get in a younger talent for central midfield to develop together with Pogba. All about balance, even though a new player can be brought in two years from now when he declines - football is about now, always. Unless you don’t care about trophies like Spurs and Liverpool.

Shaw/Valencia, Lukaku/Zlatan/Rashford, Martial/Sanchez, Pogba/Matic..... young and old(er).

Of course. Problem is just that Vidal would cost something like 20M and Verratti 200M. And actually Vidal is available, Verratti not.

Monstrous season under Pep, getting fat, lazy and drunk under Ancelotti. Since Heynckes invented some „injury“ and froze him out of the squad for two weeks, he’s back to very good form actually. Still wouldn’t let him get close to a minibar, mind.

No. And I highly doubt it ever will be. From everything I hear about him and even from the things guys like Sampaoli say about him, I think it's fair to suggest that he suffers quite badly from alcoholism. Like many alcoholics, he might be able to function for somewhat longer periods of time, but I wouldn't bet on it. It's actually no surprise, that things are looking good for him right now. New coach, new challenge, new motivation and all this stuff. Makes it easier to stay somewhat sober. As soon as those new influences fade away, I'd expect him to pick up the bottle again. Was the same with Pep. It worked for a while and suddenly there were games, where one had to wonder if he was playing drunk. The absolute highlight was against Darmstadt, when Pep subbed him off after less than 30 minutes. I'm quite sure that he was drunk in that game. He actually looked like it, all swollen up and with a red face.

If I was a club looking for a player, I wouldn't dare to even consider him. The risk is huge and his influence on the rest of the squad is horrible. It's a shame really, as he can be a fantastic player. Potentially one of the best in the world.

I forgot about that one :wenger: The commentator clearly thought that as well, but didn’t want to say it to avoid getting sued  Was that against Darmstadt though? I think it was a different team.

It was so obvious, I was quite shocked not more people noticed. I don’t know how anybody who ever had to deal with an alcoholic, could see Vidal without immediately knowing what’s up with him.

What on Earth was this all about...?!?!?!

Vidal's demons are very well documented. I still can't get over that car crash.

Terrific player but there's no telling when the devil in the bottle will get the best of him. Its sad. He's probably coming to the end of his shelf life. In this era a pro athlete can't abuse their body like that and still play 40, 50, 60 games a season.
