Arturo Vidal

Mark Ogden...

A move for Arturo Vidal, the Juventus midfielder, is anticipated in the coming days, but issues over the Chile international's fitness have left Van Gaal considering AC Milan's Nigel de Jong as an alternative ahead of a January move for Roma's Kevin Strootman.

With Vidal having played in the World Cup after undergoing knee surgery prior to the tournament in Brazil, United are understood to be concerned about the full extent of the player's recovery from a procedure which would usually require a rehabilitation period of 8-10 weeks, rather than the month Vidal spent on the sidelines.

Vidal has been unable to complete 90 minutes for club or country since March and, with United seeing Owen Hargreaves endure countless knee problems after suffering an injury during his final season with Bayern Munich, the club are determined to avoid a similar scenario with Vidal.

I would laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh until I shat myself.

But you know we'd push the price up to the Andy Carroll figure. It only makes sense in a schadenfrade kind of way. :D

So you are convinced Vidal is done? I don't see any Juve fans seeing things like that though.

The inevitable Strootman January link. I hope Roma have a replacement for him because according to many on here and journalists this is practically a done deal!

Ogden says we are going to try and get him in the coming days.

He played well against Citeh, repeatedly beating Toure on horizontal runs and then getting a pass forward to Coutinho.

Tough not to argue he'd start for us in our current state. He can pass and move. Not the tackler/screener to play as a 6 and he's very average going forward, but we're so desperate for movement and passing he'd help us.

20 million is a bit nuts, though.

He meant Vidal :)

Just think, if we did get Vidal we could pair him with Herrera and use Di Maria as a wide man for the majority of games. In the big games we would have so many options to out work teams as well.

We could play a midfield three of Vidal, Herrera and Di Maria- with Rooney and Welbeck out wide. We'd finally have that aggressive drive we've been missing.

I think if we signed Vidal a 4-4-2 diamond-y sort of thing would make a lot of sense, since you want those 3 signed CM's to have some freedom and that means a holder in behind them.

---Rooney---RVP/Mata-----
Di Maria--Vidal---Herrera
------Carrick/Fletcher-------

No, no, no. We should play 4.3.3 if we sign vidal.

Herrera......Vidal.......Di Maria

...............Mata
.....RVP...............Rooney

You don't have to have a holding midfielder with three players with their work rate.

You'd want to play 4-3-3 like that and with them players?

No no no guys, we should play the squatting monkey formation, where we have 4 dormant defenders lying in wait behind a mix of 6 midfielders and attackers, with Vidal in the middle commanding them all. When put in place, it looks like a squatting monkey.

On a serious note, do we always have to have these formations put up every time we are linked with the player? Really drains out the fun..

Why not? they are all intelligent players so when one goes forward the others can hold. They are dynamic and powerful players. You don't need to obsess over a formation. You just want to get them all on the field.

We should be like the red arrows on the pitch. I am sick of watching United play square, tumescent football.

We tried that but with Cleverley, and what does a squatting monkey usually produce?

Not ITK, but I am finally getting a little tingly sense that we are gonna get Vidal. I just hope his knee isn't wrecked.

He hasn't played a full game since March?!

That's pretty bad - has he seen any game time at all for Juventus in the last few weeks?

Knowing our luck this won't end well.

Sign Carvalho instead/as well please Woody.

He hasn't played a full game since March?! For Juve, yes this is true at the end of March. However, he served a suspension the game after his last, and featured in 2 more games after this, so didn't get involved in 5 games. Not the biggest of deals really.

15 minutes in their last friendly, still recovering from his knee surgery which was forced through the World Cup

Knowing our luck this won't end well.

Oh ye of little faith...

Sign Carvalho instead/as well please Woody.

Same/more expensive than Vidal and not in the same league in terms of quality, really want to do that?

If we do conclude this deal we'll have a much healthier looking squad. Only problem will be a lack of scapegoats in the side...

It would be the most offensive side I can recall. Let's try walking before we run.

Nah, we're offering top dollar to both player and agent. We've just signed one of the world's greatest footballers without Champions League football.

Exactly, and I think the top players are "arrogant" enough to think that they can come in and revitalize us as well..

To be honest that's what we need. Cocky bastards who won't shy away. di Maria certainly appears to have confidence in his own ability and his teammates to return us back to where we belong.

We'll still have Rooney for fans to always blame or the center back partnering Rojo!
The front 6 would be amazing though, with Januzaj, Kagawa, Welbeck and Carrick all back up players too.

I actually think it'd be too good to fail, regardless of system and manager.

If Woodward concludes this he deserves a f*cking statue!

The only thing we'd need to do is keep them all fit, which to be fair at United seems an impossible task.

This is the dream and the difference between touch and go for top 4 and a title challenge. It won't happen though :(

If Woody pulls this off I'll get 'WOODY' tatooed on my cock and film myself performing an open-air wank along Sir Matt busby Way

I'd pull my cock off if we got him as well but there's this niggling feeling in the back of my brain: What happens if we're still shit?
