Arturo Vidal

You reckon? Vidal is still recovering from injury and I can't see us signing him if he isn't 100% fit.

Help me think this through, NMF.

Why would we not sign Arturo even if we were confident that his recovery from injury is well on track? It was a minor injury, a minor surgery. And as we saw in Brasil, the man can still play football. If he needs even another month to make a full recovery, why would that have to be show stopper?

I think United aren't in any urgent need to get this deal done. Reason being, they want to give Vidal as much time as possible to get some training in and perhaps play a game or 2 to see if there is any effect on his knee after playing in the WC so soon after his op and the rest time in between then and now. Could be that since the WC and Vidal has given his knee time to rest it's been a negative reaction and the knee hasn't fully recovered due to playing in the WC. Juve will have already struck a deal with United, unofficially. Terms will be agreed with Vidal but they are just wanting to put him through his paces before spending a good amount of money on him. He certainly would be worth the money but only if he is 100% fit.

I could be totally off the mark but just with what happened with Hargreaves, United won't want to make the same mistake again.

I think your accessment is bang on. I just hope we are able to land benatia as well.

Well that's my fault I wasn't aware it was only a minor injury. Just thought it could have been like Strootman's situation where Van Gaal will want to see how he performs before spending big money.

So Vidal is basically not getting a pay rise then? He earns 4-5 million net salary a year in Italy which equates to around 8-10 million gross in Italy. If he is on 8-10 million in England that is basically the same wage since England reports gross wages.

No, ignore Gannicus he's completely wrong. Vidal's injury is one that can, potentially, afflict a player for their entire career. It's the same category of injury as Ledley King's was. It's especially risky if the player exacerbates it by playing after the surgery, which is exactly what Vidal did at the world cup.

It's an injury that he could well completely recover from, but it certainly makes sense for us to take our time and wait until we're sure he'll recover properly.

I don't think it's worth buying Vidal with this injury looming over him, dare I say it but I don't think he'll be the player he used to be.

The English media tend to report gross wages, yes. But that article (not from the English media) obviously gives both wages in the same format. Why would they give one number pre-tax and one number post-tax?

Based on... what, exactly? Your extensive medical knowledge? Or all that football we've seen him play in pre-season?

Not correct. Both wages are reported as gross in this instance. It's widely reported that Vidal is on around 75K p/w at Juve and can expect to earn around 180K per week at United. Once extrapolated into annual figures, both numbers correlate closely to those GdS figures. He's going to more than double his salary. Again, what the Italian press has been saying all along.

Well 10 million gross is 200k a week. So if he is on net wages then at 10 million that is 400k a week? That would make him the highest earner in the premier league ahead of Rooney then?

My extensive medical knowledge.

Vidals Gross wage is already 9-10 million though.....

Either they're both gross or they're both net, you work out which. One article is not going to give his Juve wages in one format and his United wages in another, that would be ridiculous.

My extensive medical knowledge.

So what exactly is wrong with his knee?

Well his italian wage can not be gross, he earns 4-5 million net in Italy so if we are going by that article that means he will be on 400k a week in England.....

Tear to the lateral meniscus. Exact same injury that King had. If you don't let it heal effectively, you can end up getting inflammation every time you use it for the rest of your career.

What's 5m net? Because if 10m net is 400k, then 5m net is 200k, and there's no way Juve are paying him that. Only a handful of players in the world make that and they're all at the big money clubs, whereas Juve are financially weak at the moment.

I'd suggest that they're both gross. That would make sense: it fits with the amount Juve are generally though to be paying him, it fits with the amount United are likely to offer him, and it fits with the great multitude of reports suggesting that United will nearly double Vidal's wages.

But if it makes you happier to believe that United aren't even going to offer him a pay rise, go on ahead...

His reported salary when he signed the new contract was any where from 4 - 5.5 million Euro in Italy, that is net salary now so that in Italy is around 180k - 200k gross wage.

Now if we are looking at that report i quoted up top it is clearly reporting his Italian salary of 4 million + bonuses which is in net. So the next part is 8 - 10 million from Manchester. So as people said they would not quote gross and net in the same article so that means he will be on 400k a week in Manchester. This leads me to believe that report is completely false because it is inconsistent.

Not sure how Gannicus can think that's a minor injury.

So it is a worry but maybe if it's healing well and with our relatively easy start to the league we won't need to rush him.

I live in Sydney, and I was watching the footy earlier. In one of the quarter time ad breaks, there was an ad for the Juve vs All Stars game... And sadly Vidal was a major part of that advertisement.

Edit: He was actually the most shown Juve player now that I think about it.

For me at least, it's not so much the point's you make, but the way you go about telling people how this and that is 'total bollox' and insulting people instead of getting your point across. It's like you try to post provocative things on purpose. You can't play the'at least I have an opinion' card forever. It pisses people off. What comes around goes around.

Just look at your post which I quoted. If you had just posted it three pages ago instead, you would've saved yourself a lot of trouble and still get your debate without winding up a bunch of fellow fans in the process.

Your probably right, I'm new to this forum lark. Can't sit on the fence though

It's a minuscus injury which isn't that serious if treated properly and an injury that he can easily recover from. His leg didn't fall off.

It's also the same injury and surgery Suarez had. Both rushed back to play in the WC. Admittedly Vidal rushed back sooner, with those 15 minutes against N. Ireland before the WC and he played in the first WC game whereas Suarez was only used in the second, if I remember correctly. Not much in it though and you didn't see Barca freaking out over his recovery. His knee was barely mentioned during that transfer.

Personally I think it's more likely that Woodward is using Vidal's knee as a bargaining chip, rather than it being a serious issue for the rest of his career.

he is still their best player... And a Big attraction to thousands of chileans, italians, etc, living in Australia.

the need to make Money on the tour is there... So of course he has to parte.

This transfer is so up and down. One day I'm like this is so on the next it feels like it's not going to happen.

I am absolutely sure that we will either sign him or we wont.

Just my opinion buddy!

I just feel its on, the Pogba quotes coupled with Juventus seemingly willing to sell. I can see it being finished up very late, depending on the state of his knee.

I hope you do get him really, would be good to see another top player in the prem and in the long term we won't be competing with you.

Ye if he arrives here now or the 31st, It would be great for us.. But late in the window, Juve will be f*cked in trying to bring in others, clubs will fleece them! refuse to sell because of how late in the window it is. So I don't think they will sell unless it's soon.

It's defiantly 'down' when Adnan is not around, watch hime pop in with some tweets and making us believe again :D

We need about 3-4 players right, shouldn't we be making moves to get these done.
