Arturo Vidal

What are you on about? The Fabrehas to Barca saga went on for about 2-3 years and the Ronaldo to Madrid about the same. Modric saga lasted a while, as did the Bale saga.
And all four of those players you mentioned were huge money, world class transfers. I'm not saying Vidal won't be and I understand why Vidal might be so drawn out, however every single target of ours always seems to be either completely made up or take forever to sign.

It's probably/definitely because I'm a United fan and always get caught up in our own dealings! But still, other teams just seem to pay the money and get their man.

Even a self-professed reputable Irish newspaper is gettin in on the act.

They've just pieced together all the shite thats been reported for the past week & stuck it all into one article..

Arturo Vidal could be the answer to all of Manchester United's problems in midfield

Manchester United have made a £45m offer for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to reports, after the Premier League club increased their interest having agreed a deal in principle to land their top transfer target this summer.

The news comes a day after Italian newspaper La Stampa reported that the player’s agent had agreed a whopping £182,000-a-week deal with United, despite Louis van Gaal harbouring concerns that the midfielder is suffering from a knee injury.

Having gained confirmation that Vidal wants to move to Old Trafford – the reports go on to suggest that he has informed friends that he wants to leave the Italian champions – United are understood to have opened talks with Juventus officials over what is set to be a club-record transfer.

It would be the second time United have smashed their record transfer fee within eight months after the £37.1m addition of Juan Mata from Chelsea during the January transfer window, and would take United’s spending for the current window beyond the £100m mark.

Louis van Gaal is still not totally content with his squad at Manchester United

Given Van Gaal’s concerns regarding the 27-year-old’s fitness, the club are looking to put Vidal through an extensive medical in order to allay their fears, especially given the risk that signing a near-£50m player would pose if he was unfit.

The claims came from Chile that suggested an initial assessment carried out by United’s medical staff have raised the issue of his previous injuries, which he suffered to the ankle and knee areas, and Van Gaal would require a full diagnosis before giving the green light for the move.

United are expected to continue their squad revamp beyond the addition of Vidal, with interest remaining in Ajax defender Daley Blind. The Netherlands international, who played under Van Gaal’s guidance at the World Cup, can play as both a centre-back and a left wing-back, and would slot into the United manager’s new 3-5-2 formation that he is installing at Old Trafford.

A move for Blind looks much more likely after it emerged that another transfer target Thomas Vermaelen is said to have agreed to join Barcelona, with a move for the Arsenal captain expected to be confirmed this week.

Underwhelming compared to the hype he is getting.
He looks a great talent don't get me wrong.
But he still has a long way to go to consider him a worldclass player. Vidal already is one.

But I don't want to turn this into a Pogba debate.

"According to reports" - The familiar hallmark of bullshit journalism

Why would we want to agree a fee/make an offer after a medical?

Surely it's no different from any irger transfer agree fee -> do medical-> complete/don't complete depending on the outcome?

Do we have to report offers to the stock exchange?
Are we afraid that once we've made a massive offer we've shown our hand and Plan B will end up costing just as much?
Are we worried about how it will look if everyone gets excited about a deal then we have to pull out?
Is it juve that want the medical going discretely so as not to devalue the player if a problem is identified?

I think maybe we want to haggle a little on the price if he's not as fit as we'd like.

So many valid questions, yet so little answers

Can I just check, is this thread still a genuine discussion about United potentially buying Vidal or is it now a "fun sideways glance" tongue in cheek parody of the football transfer market? Combined with an attempt to break RedCafe thread records.

It's hard to detect humour on the internet sometimes.

Both. Always both.

Hasn't he got knee issues? I don't fancy splashing over £35,000,000 on someone who can't even play for us yet o.o

This topic has been covered several thousand times in here, don't worry about that! Some reports say we are assessing the situation, some people say his knees are perfectly fine; it's basically a mix of reports so no-one can be trusted.
