Arturo Vidal

Well judging from last season, Vidal has 18 goals in 46 games and Yaya has 24 in 49. They are not that much apart.
You could argue that scoring goals for Juve in Italy is easier than for Toure in the Prem. Toure is a complete powerhouse with unbelievable attacking prowess, Vidal doesn't get near to that.

Last season Yaya got shitload of goals. 24 in 49 games but previous to that he had around 9-10 each season in 50 odd games. Toure's stats show 51 goals for City in 184 games. Vidal has 38 in 110 odd games for Juventus :)

Vidal is better defensively with his industry and all-action game while Toure is more of a goalscoring attacking midfielder with Fernandinho being the defensive mid. Toure didn't play like a box-to-box midfielder last season and he is better attacking midfielder than a box-to-box one. For instance Toure averaged a paltry 1.14 tackle per game for City last season and his defensive contribution wasn't that great. A better comparison for Vidal would be Ramsey.

Last season:

yaya - 0.489 goals/game
Vidal - 0.391 goals/game

Make of it what you want.
So the choice between using stats for one season or using stats over a more prolonged period. I think what I'll make of that is that the stats provided by him hold more weight.

Really? The famously wide-open, attacking Serie A vs the famously cagey, defensive Premier League?
When you watch some of the goals you'll agree with me, not just because of the Serie A, but also because of the way they dominated it last season, no comparison for it. He also scored quite a few in the Champions League, that second game against Copenhagen was unreal.

Like I said, overall it's very hard to say who's better, Vidal would clearly be the better partner for Herrera.

Allegri on Vidal.

"I have spoken with Vidal, mainly about his physical condition," Allegri said.

"Things went well. It would be great if he were to stay at Juventus.

That reeks of resignation...
It would be great if we could sign Messi. Not exactly going to happen is it :D

Surely you don't gauge a central midfielder's effectiveness on how many goals he scores anyway?

Vidal is not with that much of a free role in Juve's games. His all round game covers a lot of pitch. He may find himself in the box quite often but 30 secs after that he can be in his own box. As I said his engine is maybe his biggest asset.

He has also outscored Yaya in Europe.

Thought we were talking about for City and Juventus?
51 goals in 184 games for Yaya with City is never close to a goal every other game.. Or does it???

Yaya Toure is overrated as a CM. He's beast going forward, but is as poor at defending. Most of the time he needs someone to defend for him in latter stages of games as he can't be arsed to jog back because he's tired out.

I'd take Vidal over him anyday because he's more complete player.

Surely you read the whole discussion and figured out that we compared their attacking abilities and not their overall strength as a CM?

Exactly. If someone could go on Squawka and draw a list of comparisons other than just goals between the two, then we can have a better judgement of the situation rather than having a dick-measuring contest of "who scored the most?".

To be fair I think they all can play together. A midfield trio of Herrera/Vidal/Yaya looks complete to me with no weaknesses.

Even if he was playing in a more advanced role he wouldn't be the powerhouse Yaya is when going forward. He adds other things to the game though, arguably more important things for a CM. Couldn't imagine a better fit for us.

Agreed. He's not like Yaya when it comes to ball in his feet and taking over players. It's his positional sense and anticipation in the box that most get him the goals he scores. And he's really the key to our midfield if we can buy him.
In that system Vidal would've to do most of the defensive duties which would restrict him too much.
Yes of course with Herrera helping with pressing and distribution and Yaya in advanced role. But we have Mata, so with the three of them will be sorted for the next 5 years.

£37 million for Vidal, robbery

eh?

An international with over 50 caps, the star player of a team that consists of Pogba and Pirlo. 27 entering his peak, has a long term contract at the best team in Italy who have won three leagues, two cups in the last three years and guarantee CL football each year.
They don't need to sell and even if Vidal asks to leave that does not mean they have let him go for cheap.
We paid 37m for Mata who was surplus to requirements and if Eddy big balls says we can break the world transfer record if we wanted then surely paying about 43% of that should be easy!

I'm pretty sure he's saying that he's cheap for that price.

You weren't sure at #19735.
It was a question to him, it did not reflect my opinion. I never claimed that price is outrageous. Would actually be a very good fee for a player like Vidal, almost a steal even. Probably one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment, on the same level as Modric and Yaya.

Where exactly is this coming from? Seems too good to be true.

Meant it'd be a bargain for us. ;)

If this happens I'd love to see the anti muppets who were telling us "Was never one" "lock this thread" "Forget about it".

If this actually happens, I'm sure that every genuine United fan will be running around in the nip, not just the ones that apparently called it all along. Either way, it's been a rocky saga and the people doubting it even at this stage are well in their right to IMO. I'm still not convinced, but there's no need to call people out for it afterwards. Our history regarding these sort if transfers isn't exactly brilliant.

Its madness that £37 is considered a bargain for anyone. Thats 37 Cantona's . Fellaini has a lot to answer for :p
£37 is kind of cheap, about the price of a ticket.

£37m on the other hand, is about the price of a Carroll.
