An article on Vidal and his operation (I think sport witness mentioned most ofthis before):

Yeah, but he still had the operation so it would of been a risk one way or another buying him after an injury/operation of that magnitude?
We waited a full season, by which stage he was back playing. There wasn't the same risk involved as buying someone who hasn't fully recovered.

If we sign Cuadrado do we still think we'd sign Vidal? I'd be amazed if we spent this kind of money.

Id actually be more amazed if we didn't spend seriously big this summer; we have the money, we need the signings and its Woodie's name on the line :)

How's this self-sustaining fairy tale coming along then ? :)
What happened to those cryptically cock teasy ITK ArturON comments you made a few weeks back? You sounded so positive about this transfer at the time. Did I just completely misunderstand them or has this all changed since because of the dreaded knee problem?

Vidal has not denied anything at all or spoken, its just too strange for such a loveable player to Juve fans to not placate them, i think once he gets on the pitch and does his thing, he will be signed, Contrary to what journous are saying i think its all agreed, subject to knee and medical.

Have we progressed? Isn't it negative rumours regarding his knee?
The club won't risk another Hargreaves but on the other hand we risked RvN and it paid off. I dunno, it's a tricky one. My heart is saying sign the cnut, feck the knee.

Here's how it is:

Simple knee surgery was aggravated by playing at the World Cup and rehabilitation was made more lengthy and complicated.

He had a month off after the World Cup and its no doubt been necessary and good for him.

With his knee in that condition, we weren't willing to push through a £40m transfer. Rightly so too.

He's now arrived back, had a medical and started light training while on tour with Juve.

As soon as he's back to some sort of fitness, we'll be back in touch and push the transfer through.

Bare in mind this: according to the Chile manager, the transfer was all but done if not for his knee. So we are clearly very serious about him.

If his knee is better, he's ours. And it's only a bloody meniscus nip and tuck.

Why has the Chile manager suddenly become god of all knowledge?

This thread is littered with Tweets from Agent Edward's and poker commentators getting peoples hopes up, so why would we be sceptical when the blokes national team manager is speaking out?

I agree but look how much Liverpool have spent and continue to spend and we should have more money available than them.
I doubt we will spend it though.

They've Suarez and Champions League money.

Also, I don't see them spending close to £40 million on one player.

I know they have the Suarez money but our revenue still dwarfs theirs. Plus if there ever was a time when we really NEED to spend big, now is the time.
I still don't think we will though.

Maybe.

For a start we'll probably recoup a bit on outgoing players. Nani, Hernandez, Kagawa and Fellaini would probably get us at least 40m, no?

Beyond that, our wage bill will have dropped a fair bit recently with the departures of Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra and Giggs. In many ways wages are more important than the actual transfer fee itself...

Also, last summer was far quieter than we intended it to be so we didn't spend near as much as we had budgeted for in that instance either.

I don't think we will do it but money issues would be relatively low on my list of reasons why.

Between a very steep upturn in revenues and a lot of big players off the wage bill and the expected smaller squad we have the money available to swing our dick around in a serious fashion.

The only thing it depends on is Van Gaal. He's going to be a bit like Ferguson in that he understands what is needed to win and it isn't always the most exciting route and I'm not talking about our style on the field, more building a coherent, happy squad.

Finances so dependent on Vidal sale to Manchester United, loan moves now Juventus best option - report

Juventus need Manchester United to sign Arturo Vidal to fix holes in their squad they cannot otherwise afford to, argues an Italian pundit.

Just two seasons ago, Juventus fans clamoured for the signing of Robin van Persie. Yet the club could only muster a £10 million bid, and he was sold to Manchester United for £24 million instead.

Later that summer on deadline day, Juventus desperately signed an out of shape Nicklas Bendtner on loan from Arsenal, and added Nicolas Anelka on a free during the next transfer window.

24 months on, the Serie A champions are still struggling to compete in the transfer market, outgunned for Alexis Sanchez and Juan Iturbe.

Selling Arturo Vidal to Manchester United would be a financial game-changer, but just how desperate is it for the Turin side, who have this summer spent roughly £25 million on new players.

Sky Italia's Alexander Surgoni believes they have reached their limit by bringing in Alvaro Morata, Patrice Evra among others.

He says they are now almost all spent out, and have to look at loan moves if they are to strengthen, unless they sell.

"If they sell Vidal, Juventus can sign a defender, a midfielder and a striker. The Juventus has already identified a midfielder in January, Guarin, a player that Inter could yield. Then a defender, and can invest 12-15 million on a striker for a certain profile. If they do not sell Vidal, the defender and the attacker Juventus's aim will be to borrow."

In other words, if they sell Vidal, Juventus can go onto sign a whole new spine to their team, including a big name striker.

If they stick with the Chilean international, they will have to scratch around for loan moves and hope Alvaro Morata comes good, if they are to improve on their group stage elimination in last year's Champions League competition.

In defence, Manchester City's Matija Nastasic has been linked as a top option, while up front even the spectacular name of Zlatan Ibrahmovic has circled in the Italian press.

That may be unlikely, but given the finances Juventus would have available, they would be able to ideally attract a striker closer to that calibre than a Nicklas Bendtner, as they may otherwise have to take a gamble on.

2 complerely conflicting statements in the same report. Nice one La Stampa.
God how I want this to happen. It's so tiring.

Poor guy Vidal. Imagine what he must be going through thinking about the dream transfer which is dragging on endlessly :(
Hang in there, man...Woody will soon come for you.

Yup, but it also feels like they are trying to blame Vidal for any move that might happen.

If he ends up moving, Juventus can simply say they were forced by Vidal and those big bad rich clubs that could offer him more money than them. Nothing poor little Juve can do to keep him.

I doubt he is going through any turmoil I'm sure he knows if we are just waiting to see him in action to allay fears on his knee. If everything has been agreed he will be kept up to speed on our thinking.

Vidal has told teammates he wants Manchester United transfer

Turin newspaper La Stampa are it again. Just under a week after they said Fernando Felicevich was trying to sort out a Manchester United move, which they say Arturo Vidal wants... they've now added an update.

La Stampa claim that Vidal has told some of his Chile national teammates that he wants a move to Manchester United. Some other teammates, say La Stampa, aren't so sure. The newspaper have been sure to cover every possible scenario. Again.

Of course, if Vidal has been telling his teammates he wants a move to Manchester United then that's great for fans of the Old Trafford club who want the player to arrive this summer. However, La Stampa reiterate that no official bid has been made by Manchester United yet and if it does arrive, and is enough, then Vidal will have to tell his club that he wants the transfer to happen.

It's claimed that Vidal will have to choose whether he wants to follow the 'romantic' ideal of staying at Juventus and choose honour, or plump for the money instead. That's a bit lofty from La Stampa, but they are based in Turin so will have a significant amount of bias.

The article is largely the same song and dance that has been going on for some time, aside from the teammate claim. It has to be wondered where La Stampa got that from and though it would be completely wrong of us to point any fingers with certainty, it's too tempting to avoid speculating.

Mauricio Isla will have been speaking to some Turin press recently regarding his move from Juventus to QPR, and he was of course in Chile's World Cup squad. Another 'suspect' could be Gary Medel, recently moved to Inter Milan. Then again, La Stampa could have heard it secondhand.

La Stampa also say that a wages offer of €12m has led 'King Arthur' seriously pondering a move to British soil. There's more talk of Vidal's agent Fernando Felicevich meeting Juventus' great and good but if only half of the claims in the Italian media regarding Felicevich are correct then he may as well move in to the Turin club's offices.

Transfer fee talk is brought up again and La Stampa say Beppe Marotta, Juve's big cheese, wants €50m. That's despite the same newspaper saying less than a week ago it was €40m.

One day this will all end.
