Arturo Vidal

I wonder what Juve felt about that, even without a potential move/fat fee going out the window? Can't have been happy, I would have thought.
Now I don't follow Italian football too closely, but I vaguely remember Juve themselves delaying the op and playing him instead in games. Think they wanted to win the EL in their own stadium and needed Vidal. But not sure about it.

They've been reporting a fee and personal terms have been agreed in principle, which Sampaoli confirms in his interview. They were also the first outlet to report that we were concerned about his knee which Sampaoli also confirmed.
Yeah, but haven't they moved away from the knee aspect and made it about us not having bid etc.? Which, if we believe this guy, is just plainly untrue. So isn't it just as likely they know there's interest and are just flinging darts as to the rest?

I wouldn't write him off because of the knee just yet. A certain RVN signed for us later than expected because of destroying his knee, and he turned out OK.

Short term it's a definite problem if our two main midfield targets are both too inured to sign, and our main midfielder is also too injured to start the season.

Yeah, Around £47.5m according to the converter I used!
So they would only talk at €50m well this is closer to €60m yeah, he's as good as ours. The only thing stopping it is the knee. Come on Vidal...swallow some placenta or something.

Such a downer if its the knee problem that puts this off even though it will be a wise and sensible decision to not pursue.

I beg to disagree. Would take a one-legged Vidal over Cleverley and Fellaini anyday :D

Whats this nonsense about United being worried about stumping up 40 million for him if he's going to be injured?

United aren't worried about the money, insurance will cover his wages and probably most of the fee if he's out like Hargreaves was. I think they would be more concerned about him not playing due to injury. There's no point in having players if they spend all their time in the stands. It's not good for the player or the club.

You might be confusing them with Tuttosport and Gazetta.

One Arturo please, and one of these!

I know that the main problem in Vidal’s $80m transfer to #MUFC is LVG’s doubt over the improvement of Vidal’s knee

How are we accurately gauging the state of Vidal's knee right now? Just by the rumored medical reports we have got from the Chile medical team? I don't see how we can be concerned without really giving Vidal a medical from our medical team, heck they could even do it at Turin itself so as not to raise expectations of United fans.

Apparently it is a meniscus injury, which can require serious rest between exertions.

I see. Unless we can sort out a more appearance based fee with Juventus, I'll be surprised if we pursue it. I think we'll see it as too big a risk. We may even have already walked away.

So many were doubting this.

Stick with me, I won't let you down.

A couple of preseason games and he's ours.

I feel like Van Gal may play the waiting game over Vidal and Struuti - wait till Jan/next summer.

So when we finally have a chance to sign a world class midfielder a potential knee problem might feck it all up

Relax guys, its probably a translation error, correct me if im wrong but I don't think there is a word for 'potential' or 'possible' in Chilean.
White Text.

If anything, I think these qoutes all but end this saga. We're not going to part with that kind of money for someone with ongoing issues with his knee. Its just not going to happen.

It does seem to confirm we were seriously in for him at one point, mind. So you can gloat on that. As I say, its a massive shame about the injury, I would have loved him at United.

I also feel even more frustrated knowing we actually might have signed such a fantastic player, in midfield, and its gone down the drain. It seems that there is no end to our midfield jinx. I expect Herrera to injure himself, or discover a new love of Mcdonalds, anyday soon

A Twitter rumour going on now is perhaps Van Gaal wanted Vidal to go on tour with Juve to assess his fitness before putting an official bid in.

Which is just bullshit Twitter heads feeding off recent comments from Sampaoli, nobody has a clue.

It doesn't really end anything does it though? He had surgery to fix his torn meniscus, and Van Gaal wants to see how he'll come back from it. Meniscus surgery can be no big deal at all, or it can cause future problems depending on how the surgery went/how much of the meniscus is left and stuff like that.

The more I think about it, the less likely Van Gaal will be interested in this dude. What Hererra really needs to excel is a metronomic passer, with really good defensive anticipation. Someone who can pull the strings from deep while allowing Herrera to get forward and create. Vidal really isn't that player. So why sign him if we've already commited to making Hererra a big part of our future plans?

Basically, a younger version of Carrick would be perfect. So that's Strootman, right?

Why restrict ourselves to a player that can only do one or two things very good when there is Vidal available that can pull off everything? He had sth like a win percentage of 90% of his tacklings last season so he knows how to get stuck in and has great anticiaption, not only defensively but also offensively.

Also Strootman is closer to a Vidal than to a Carrick that sits deep these days. Strootman is box to box and Vidal as well, just better in pretty much every aspect.

SO no, I entirely disagree with the notion that LvG wouldnt want him, especially considering that he has been a great admirer of him during his Bayern days.
Vidal and Herrera in a 5-3-2 would as well work as a Fletcher and Vidal or Cleverley and Vidal midfield. A fit Vidal would pretty much suit into any midfield combination we can field (apart from Toilet Brush but he isnt a CM anyway)

The only thing concering is his knee and this seems to be the biggest problem for us as well.
