Arturo Vidal

Explains why Juve are coming out pretty much daily and saying that "Vidal is happy. We won't sell......except for silly money.". They are trying to get us to buy him now before they have to start playing him and the extent of their worry about his knees becomes apparent. Did I hear Vidal won't play until their Australian leg of their tour? Buys Juve more time to get rid.

If Vidal's knees turn out to be fine and he gets back to his best, we'll get him but if we see any sign of his knees affecting his performance, we won't risk having another Hargreaves on our hands.

Didn't the Polish national coach say we are signing Lewandowski? I don't trust this Chilean guy.

If its Juve who are desperate to ship him due to concerns over his Knee, then there's absolutely no need to pay any obscene amount. Let the assessment be done and drag it further.

The fact that Juve signed Pereyra on a 1 year loan deal with a buy option makes a lot of sense now. They are looking to offload Vidal due to economical issues if we buy Vidal they will have the money to sign Pereyra on a permanent deal as a replacement but if we pass on Vidal their spend on Pereyra will be minimal.

To me, this theory makes a lot of sense.

If thats the case, we offer a structured deal paying an initial lump sum, say 10M euro's, then 18 monthly instalments once its certain any subsequent injury was not caused this existing injury and then the rest of the fee. We did similar when we signed Paul Ince from West Ham years ago.

Doubt Juventus would go for it as they either need a huge cash injection (hence there willingness to sell in first place) or don't need money at all.

If the knee injury is similar risk to Hargreaves, then it's a huge call for LVG and the board and they have every right to take their time during due diligence ... and if they are unconvinced, then to walk away from the deal.

Good post. Absolutely right too.

Good idea letting him go on tour then to be honest.

But it took us a full 12 months before Hargreaves latent injury issues flamed up again. If Vidals knee is buffered, its pot luck if it survives his pre season club tour; most likely he survives unscathed and it flares up again soon into next season.

If we have paid $80m for him and that happens, there will be huge uproar from United fans everywhere.

If there are concerns about his knee then we shouldn't touch him. Just way too risky.

Thank god the on crowd are finally being rewarded!

I'll be surprised if his knee scuppers the deal. I don't know much about it, other than it was a very similar problem and very similar surgery to what Suarez had. I don't think he played as much, or as early, during the WC, but he must have been fine for his medical to go through.

I'm resting easy that this is just a matter of time now

How much can a medical tell you about a knee injury and its likelihood of having future implications? Any (semi)experts here?

El Mercurio was spot on all the way through
How's that? They've been reporting a deal (of varying shapes and sizes) for weeks now. I suspect they were right in that there is/was interest, but as to the rest, I don't see much.

To me the only timeline that makes sense is us trying to do a deal earlier in the summer and pulling back around the time our interest went cold publicly.

The difficult thing is how we can judge his knee without medical checks of our own. Pre-season games aren't a good way of doing so. They're nothing like the intensity of Premier League games whatsoever.

One of the interesting bits released by a few journos last week was that United apparently don't carry insurance for career ending injuries. With something like this I can see how you'd be worried. You'd end up paying a fortune for someone who can't play.

Sure, which is why its imperative that we do our assessment. I also do not know how far can you judge and ascertain if its ok or not. I am sure there are plenty of cases to prove either.

It's also worth mentioning that the Chile manager also said Vidal was only 30% or 40% for the World Cup and risked his career playing with an injury.

Its actually a massive shame, it seems we genuinely were interested in him, but then this knee injury has scuppered it. Can't help but actually feel quite gutted.

Says more about how much of an idiot this manager is to let that happen.

The plot thickens. We will be right to be cautious, HOWEVER he is right, we saw nothing of how effective Vidal can be at the WC he is the worlds very best midfielder. Now it makes sense, also It sounds like we are waiting like Madrid with Falcao to see him perform a couple of times now he has had a rest.

Could we be seeing a game of russian roulette between clubs, Vidal went on tour.....BUT he isnt playing until the Aus leg, does LVG believe they are holding something back about his knee? Why would Vidal not be included in any games in asia, why would they not implement him into the squad? is it to ensure his value? make sure he does not get injured again? or is it to hide that hes got permanent damage to his knee?

Jesus, these quotes blow the whole thing open and flips the entire situation on its head. Perhaps we are right in thinking he may not be fit, maybe Juve are indeed pulling a fast one, their latest comments come accross a little desperate to sell.....

If the knee thing is true, Im sure most of this is happening right now!

What's actually wrong with his knee anyway?
I believe he suffers from Kanye West knee syndrome.

If your wondering why Juve would possibly entertain such a deal and screaming "WHY?!" from the rooftops. How about €80m just as a small reason why.

Eh? He's the boss of the NT. If the player says he wants to risk it and play, why'd he force him out? It says more about Vidal.

Yeah and then RVP came along.

I guess we wanted RVP more.

Nah I think Lewandowski wanted Bayern more. Real tried to hijack the deal with an obscene contract offer but he was deadset on going to Bayern for some reason...

They've been reporting a fee and personal terms have been agreed in principle, which Sampaoli confirms in his interview. They were also the first outlet to report that we were concerned about his knee which Sampaoli also confirmed.
