I agree. But if they dont get vidal. Ive a feeling Van Gaal is like ferguson and wont be priced out in the market or made look desperate. If ferguson didnt get the player he wanted, he moved on to someone else pretty fast.
If Vidal came out and said he's very happy at Juve and not moving, then I'd have to throw in the towel. If anyone else says it's not on, anyone in the media, anyone at Juve, even anyone at United including LVG, I'd still hold out some hope (although not a lot if LVG said he had no interest!).

On top of this, the quotes coming from Juve seem like that they will definitely sell if the price is right.
After watching our pre-season games I'd be totally bemused if LvG decides we don't need a quality addition to the midfield 2. I would say an experienced CB is still a priority over another CM, but CM is second on the list for me. Perhaps you can argue this, saying full back cover is more important. That'll come down to LvG's opinions on Valencia/Young's potential as wing backs, and our youth options. However considering Woody has been giving it all that, there's no reason why we couldn't afford to improve each position.
Lastly, until we are actually linked with anyone, there's no reason to assume this is 'dead in the water'. I'm convinced we will sign someone and other than maybe Vermaelen (ffs...) we aren't being linked with anyone at the minute. If you're citing a lack of trustworthy English media links as your reason for thinking we aren't after Vidal, then you must think we're done for the summer. Fair enough if that's what you think, but I'm certain there are signings coming. They won't be on their way until after the tour, once LvG has finished assessing the current squad, just like he said himself.

In Van Gaal's first season at Bayern he didn't but Robben until August 27th so he obviously is the kind who likes to take time in the window.
Certain types of player and Vidal is one of them, wont/can't leave their clubs in last minute type of deals. I'm sure they would rather sell with enogh time left to find suitable replacement.
If this gets towards mid August it would be harder to conclude deals with Juve. Specially since their stand was always he's not for sale unless he forces a move and I can't see him doing it so late in the window.
It would be like Moyes last minute ditch to get Coentrao (excuse my spelling if I killed the name) and Kadira which horribly failed and made him a bigger idiot.
Juve has already enough midfielders. Even without Vidal they have quality and depth. So I am sure they will use the money rather for other positions. But you are right I don't think they will sell in the last couple of days and when they change their opinion then we have no chance at all. For me it's still baffling why we haven't done anything so far.
I find it baffling that so many people are baffled. Van Gaal actually said that he wouldn't be thinking about purchases until he'd given all our existing players a full tour to impress. Is it so surprising that he was telling the truth?
