Arturo Vidal

I was firmly in the ArturON camp and I muppeted to the fullest. However, I held the belief that if this was going to happen that we would have at least sorted it out before he went on tour with Juve to ensure we don't risk any further injury to him. That has not happened. Thus, I'm now leaning towards ArturOFF.

However, to those bellends coming in here and saying this was never on and that we never held an interest, I don't think that's the case. I think (all evidence considered) that we held a genuine interest but for one of many possible reasons have abandoned this chase/deal.

I felt this deal was off the moment the Juve CEO came out and said they will only let Vidal go if he wants to go. I can't see him coming out and requesting to leave. I don't blame Woodward or LVG or anyone from our club because in the end, it is the player's decision.

I would be very surprised if this came off but I think he will end up staying and Pogba will leave next year.

I was speaking with a business contact of mine who has a lot of contacts in sports journalism in the UK. He is usually pretty up on transfer business particularly in the North West, although he is not interested in forums, Twitter, etc. I haven't spoken to him in a while so I took th opportunity to speak to him about Vidal etc. He said he had heard literally nothing, not even a whisper, about Vidal to United, in fact he was surprised when I mentioned him.

The main stories re United he has heard from his contacts are Hummels, although he thought that had run into difficulties and Vermaelen, where there is interest from us and Barcelona.

This is strange because he is usually spot on with this stuff. We must be keeping our cards very close to our chest this summer, which is probably a good thing.

We were never in for him. This whole 'saga' is restricted to the Iitalian press and redcafe.

I don't believe this is happening. BUT if it was happening, I'd read nothing into the fact that he hadn't been signed yet. He's getting over a serious injury, and rushed back after an op to play in the world cup when he probably shouldn't have. He won't be ready to play pre season games till at least another few weeks. If the transfer was going ahead, delaying it till the end of the window won't bw any disadvantage at all. He can't even train properly at the moment. Waiting as long as possible to make sure the knee is healing fully would be the right thing to do given the massive fees rumored to be involved.

Completely agree

I thought last week Pete O'Rourke said we were working hard for the deal?

Vidal has thus far refused to commit his future to Juve. He's 27 now and at a stage of his career where it could be his final chance to earn a lucrative contract which would nearly double his earnings. From his interviews it's quite obvious to me that he's angling for a move. I'm also pretty sure he will give another interview in the coming days to fuel the fire even further.

I think both sides (Vidal and Juve) are putting the ball into each others court with each interview they do. As we get nearer to deadline day, the mood will change on either side. It will either depends who wants it more; If Juve want the money or if Vidal wants the move.

This is literally what I've been thinking. While I don't think this is very likely anymore, the lack of news or the whole thing dragging on doesn't make it any less likely than it was originally.

Won't believe anyone would want this transfer not to happen just because they predicted so. I can understand the logic behind it though, there's hardly been concrete news over any developments coupled with our constant shunning of any interest.

I wouldn't want to go into battle with half of you lot. First sign of danger and your running for the hills!.

Juve have been recruiting new players, especially midfielders for the last 2 weeks.

2 things are happening in my eyes: We are waiting to get back from the tour, when LVG will then cut the dead wood and sign new players.

We are waiting for Juve to recruit the players they deem necessary, and will only announce the deal once they are finished.

All this will be completed within the next 2 weeks, in which King arthur will gallop into O.T on a white horse named Chevrolet and be officially unveiled.

I'd imagine they are looking for Pirlo replacements. He's 35. I imagine he'll retire from football after Euro 2016.

None of their signings are really Pirlo-esque. I expect they see Pogba as Pirlo's long-term replacement, with all-action sorts in the Vidal/Marchisio mould ahead of him.

Perhaps Louis wants to see how Vidal performs on the tour, which would wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Time is not our enemy. We have all of of August and we don't face a serious opponent until well after September 1.

Don't put your cocks away just yet!

When did the Arturo Vidal Transfer Discussion thread become the "Official Happy Muppets being Muppety Happily in their own little world and NOTHING ELSE" thread?

You're becoming a religion. "You must respect our muppet beliefs and stop being mean and arrogant by pointing out our delusion"

If we were going to sign him, why haven't we done so already? None of this makes sense, it really seems like the media have fabricated this whole thing, maybe instigated by his agent who wants to rinse Juve of some cash. It wouldn't be the first time the media have linked us with a player all summer and it turned out to be lies (Sneijder).

Nobody spends 6 weeks preparing a bid, we either want him or we don't. This isn't some complicated 3rd party negotiation, nothing has happened. We haven't bid, we haven't contacted Juve, we've done nothing and the global media are desperately trying to keep this non-story going. LVG needs time to assess his squad before deciding? Nonsense as far as I'm concerned. Nobody else is in for him and it's clear he has a price, there is no good reason why we haven't even placed an initial bid. If we wanted him it would have been a done deal the moment he came back off holiday from the World Cup.
Sneijder wasn't lies though. We wanted him and baulked at his wage demands.

It's quite a story for Chilean and Italian press to fabricate and the UK media outlets to also run with, in varying degrees of ONness.

22nd July. Thanks for adhering and respecting our rights.

Except it hasn't been. The UK press have been reporting it on and off all summer as well.
But which UK papers and journalists have been reporting the story?
I admit I've not trawled every publication, but from what I've read and from the detail I can recall I can't remember a decent hack carrying anything about this transfer. All the sources seem to come, quite understandably, from Italy and Chile but I've no idea, in making an assessment, whether they are credible or not.
Mind you, even a broken watch tells the correct time twice a day, so maybe the Mirror and the Daily Fail will for once break the habit of a professional lifetime and actually scoop a UTD story.

I may be wrong, but apart from Steve 'Click' Bates' article last weekend, have there been any other genuine mentions of this story from reliable UK journalists in the last few weeks? Looks to me like it's being driven foreign media and our papers are reporting the reports, despite all of their journos seemingly having been told by the club that it's not a runner.

@AmoriZep honestly I think anything still could happen, mufc still have the time, it's clear the chance remains for mufc, let's wait and see

This may be true, but even the most dedicated and rational athiest would probably agree that if you wander into a church and tell everybody that God obviously doesn't exist and they should all go home and lock the building up, then you're wasting your time, and should probably have a think about your own motivations and reasoning.

@Brophs Correct, Steve Bates was the last one who reported our interest a week or so ago. Although Mark Ogden did mentioned on talk sports that there is too much talk for it to be just rumour (Italian/chile media)

But this isn't a church, or a shop, or any other such metaphor that implies the sole purpose of this thread is one thing: Unabashed conjecture and celebration that Vidal is definitely coming. It's a discussion thread, for a possibly happening, possibly not happening transfer. News and opinion that it isn't happening is just as cromulent.

If you want a church or a shop, you can create two separate ArturON and ArturOFF threads and happily mingle around in just one of them.

But they haven't, apart from the odd snippet here and there. It hasn't even been close to a 'saga' within the British press.

Nobody is actually serious on the VidalON side of things though, the VidalOFF brigade take it all very seriously indeed and come in demanding that the thread should be closed and everyone is idiots for thinking he might come here.

I find it fun to humour them.

Well that's completely fair enough.

That is the main difference on a tee

Nah, there are a few idiots suggesting it should be closed and the rest of us think the whole thing is just a daft old load of bollocks. The main problem is that the site's so full of idiots nowadays that it's gotten as bad as the official forum.

True. Its all in a bit of jest. People have the common sense to see this deal is neither on/off mostly due to lack of any credible or consistent information.

Probably a good sign, given that there wasn't so much as a peep about Herrera this summer until we got him, and that the typical 'reliable UK journalist' crowd were all telling us that the Shaw deal was off/hijacked by Chelsea/Liverpool during the World Cup, when it has since become apparent that the deal was all but done.

The less they know about it the better, going by their record this summer.

They all have. All the "reliable sources" have, at some point throughout this summer, declared we're interested in him. Now many have said we aren't, some then said it had been revived, some have said we've told them we've had no direct contact with Juve but that we might be lying, but they've all reported on it at some point.

To be fair our big signing of the summer was LVG. He's completely transformed us in space of weeks (I know, I know it's only preseason!). Vidal would be a massive signing, but without Vidal i still think we would challenge for the league. We will buy a few more players (surely?), we need a few centre backs! But in terms of our first team, it's solid and will challenge as we have no European football to worry about. Can't wait for the season to start again!
