Class A muppetry
I was speaking with a business contact of mine who has a lot of contacts in sports journalism in the UK. He is usually pretty up on transfer business particularly in the North West, although he is not interested in forums, Twitter, etc. I haven't spoken to him in a while so I took th opportunity to speak to him about Vidal etc. He said he had heard literally nothing, not even a whisper, about Vidal to United, in fact he was surprised when I mentioned him.
The main stories re United he has heard from his contacts are Hummels, although he thought that had run into difficulties and Vermaelen, where there is interest from us and Barcelona.
This is strange because he is usually spot on with this stuff. We must be keeping our cards very close to our chest this summer, which is probably a good thing.
I don't believe this is happening. BUT if it was happening, I'd read nothing into the fact that he hadn't been signed yet. He's getting over a serious injury, and rushed back after an op to play in the world cup when he probably shouldn't have. He won't be ready to play pre season games till at least another few weeks. If the transfer was going ahead, delaying it till the end of the window won't bw any disadvantage at all. He can't even train properly at the moment. Waiting as long as possible to make sure the knee is healing fully would be the right thing to do given the massive fees rumored to be involved.
I thought last week Pete O'Rourke said we were working hard for the deal?We were never in for him. This whole 'saga' is restricted to the Iitalian press and redcafe.
Beleive. The "dead in the water" crew are going to be unbearably smug when this gets called off, aren't they...
This is literally what I've been thinking. While I don't think this is very likely anymore, the lack of news or the whole thing dragging on doesn't make it any less likely than it was originally.I don't believe this is happening. I so wish I'm wrong, but I've lost hope.

The round tables have been laid out. Its the clearest sign yet, that King Artur is on his way!
I'd imagine they are looking for Pirlo replacements. He's 35. I imagine he'll retire from football after Euro 2016.
Sneijder wasn't lies though. We wanted him and baulked at his wage demands. If we were going to sign him, why haven't we done so already? None of this makes sense, it really seems like the media have fabricated this whole thing, maybe instigated by his agent who wants to rinse Juve of some cash. It wouldn't be the first time the media have linked us with a player all summer and it turned out to be lies (Sneijder).
Nobody spends 6 weeks preparing a bid, we either want him or we don't. This isn't some complicated 3rd party negotiation, nothing has happened. We haven't bid, we haven't contacted Juve, we've done nothing and the global media are desperately trying to keep this non-story going. LVG needs time to assess his squad before deciding? Nonsense as far as I'm concerned. Nobody else is in for him and it's clear he has a price, there is no good reason why we haven't even placed an initial bid. If we wanted him it would have been a done deal the moment he came back off holiday from the World Cup.
Except it hasn't been. The UK press have been reporting it on and off all summer as well.We were never in for him. This whole 'saga' is restricted to the Iitalian press and redcafe.
When did the Arturo Vidal Transfer Discussion thread become the "Official Happy Muppets being Muppety Happily in their own little world and NOTHING ELSE" thread?
You're becoming a religion. "You must respect our muppet beliefs and stop being mean and arrogant by pointing out our delusion"
But which UK papers and journalists have been reporting the story?Except it hasn't been. The UK press have been reporting it on and off all summer as well.
I may be wrong, but apart from Steve 'Click' Bates' article last weekend, have there been any other genuine mentions of this story from reliable UK journalists in the last few weeks? Looks to me like it's being driven foreign media and our papers are reporting the reports, despite all of their journos seemingly having been told by the club that it's not a runner.Except it hasn't been. The UK press have been reporting it on and off all summer as well.

This may be true, but even the most dedicated and rational athiest would probably agree that if you wander into a church and tell everybody that God obviously doesn't exist and they should all go home and lock the building up, then you're wasting your time, and should probably have a think about your own motivations and reasoning.
Except it hasn't been. The UK press have been reporting it on and off all summer as well.
But this isn't a church, or a shop, or any other such metaphor that implies the sole purpose of this thread is one thing: Unabashed conjecture and celebration that Vidal is definitely coming. It's a discussion thread, for a possibly happening, possibly not happening transfer. News and opinion that it isn't happening is just as cromulent.
If you want a church or a shop, you can create two separate ArturON and ArturOFF threads and happily mingle around in just one of them.
Nobody is actually serious on the VidalON side of things though, the VidalOFF brigade take it all very seriously indeed and come in demanding that the thread should be closed and everyone is idiots for thinking he might come here.
I find it fun to humour them.

Nah, there are a few idiots suggesting it should be closed and the rest of us think the whole thing is just a daft old load of bollocks. The main problem is that the site's so full of idiots nowadays that it's gotten as bad as the official forum.Nobody is actually serious on the VidalON side of things though, the VidalOFF brigade take it all very seriously indeed and come in demanding that the thread should be closed and everyone is idiots for thinking he might come here.

But they haven't, apart from the odd snippet here and there. It hasn't even been close to a 'saga' within the British press.
They all have. All the "reliable sources" have, at some point throughout this summer, declared we're interested in him. Now many have said we aren't, some then said it had been revived, some have said we've told them we've had no direct contact with Juve but that we might be lying, but they've all reported on it at some point. But which UK papers and journalists have been reporting the story?
I admit I've not trawled every publication, but from what I've read and from the detail I can recall I can't remember a decent hack carrying anything about this transfer. All the sources seem to come, quite understandably, from Italy and Chile but I've no idea, in making an assessment, whether they are credible or not.
Mind you, even a broken watch tells the correct time twice a day, so maybe the Mirror and the Daily Fail will for once break the habit of a professional lifetime and actually scoop a UTD story.
