Arturo Vidal

Okay, to stop myself going insane having my hopes raised and destroyed 10 times a day, I shall adopt a new policy: I will no longer check the Transfer forum. Instead, I'll go straight to the United one, and I'll know the situation by whether or not there is a thread called "Arturo Vidal - 2014/15 Performances".

Please don't create a fake thread to troll me, I don't think my heart would be able to take that level of soul crushing...

I thread banned myself from the Vidal thread. Lasted a day and half

Ronaldo made that move for the love of himself.

Same thing that's motivated every step of his career.

Delusion doesn't begin to describe this!

All footballers make these moves for love of themselves mate, you can probably apply the same logic to every human being on the planet too.

Wouldn't that put Vidal at about 150m using your logic.

No because Torres is an extreme example, like Carroll. Out of all the transfers that ever go on in the major leagues what % do Carroll and Torres make up? Luiz isnt quite in the same league as those two so its no good always going on about those two transfers.

50 or 60 million isnt a massive overpricing of Vidal.

I bet we're not even in for him. We're just using all this speculation so that Woodward can use this as 'evidence' that we're in for the best players.

Love of the club? Yeah ok.

Look, you can call it what you want, but it was clear for a long time that he had a specific desire to play for Real Madrid because of who they were. OK, it's not like he was an Oldham fan and gave up lucrative contracts to play for them, but even Paul Scholes never did that, it just doesn't happen. Of course it was to benefit his own career, but again, what else motivates any player? He didn't whore himself around making silly contradictory statements until he got the biggest pay-cheque, like so may players these days - he had one specific "dream" and you can hardly blame him for following it. If anything his move to United was more cynical... what business has a 17 year-old form Madiera moving to Manchester?

Ronaldo said the whole time that his dream was to play for Madrid.
Okies
We weren't all hits at United

KLEBERSON watched 80,000 Real Madrid fans hail Cristiano Ronaldo - and wondered where it all went wrong.

The Brazilian joined Manchester United at the same time as the flash 18-year-old Ronaldo in August 2003.

Kleberson and Cameroon international Eric Djemba-Djemba were supposed to become the new stars of United's midfield in place of David Beckham and Juan Veron.

But it never happened and while they flopped the ?12.24m Ronaldo became an ?80m superstar.

Kleberson, 30, now with Flamengo back in Brazil, signed for United for ?5.93m. He was sold to Besiktas for ?2.5m two years later after just 24 starts and two goals. Fatally, he never got on with Alex Ferguson.

He admitted: "I arrived in Manchester, along with Ronaldo, with a lot of hope but left with huge sadness. An injury in only my second league match proved a very negative factor and in my second season I wasn't given many chances.

"My Brazilian coach Dunga had more faith in me than Ferguson. I believe I could have been a bigger success in English football. But not everyone is guaranteed success at United."

Djemba-Djemba moved to United from Nantes for ?3.5m in July 2003. Fergie took a ?2m loss on him 18 months later, selling him to Aston Villa after 20 appearances and no goals.

Now 28, he plays for Odense in Denmark.

He explained: "My experience was two-fold - great satisfaction to play at this big club but disappointment at so few opportunities.

"Cristiano was more a fan of Barcelona then than Real. But now he is in Madrid, he will win many titles."

100%, but you can't say that or people get upset.

You don't want to upset people, do you Duafc?

Yeah, he only discovered REM sleep in 2008, though.

I agree with that, that's what you pay these days for top quality.
Shaw makes his own case for his valuation, 10 years service from a player will pay that £27m back tenfold.
I know it's not Chelsea's policy to buy into youth but it's a working policy at a lot of clubs.

Didn't know this! Fairly certain he said he was a Madrid fan when he was younger but I really can't be bothered finding any articles.
Also thought Fergie cited Ronaldo's dream to play for Madrid as a reason for why we sold him.

He was definitely always going to move to Madrid.

Djemba has spoken !

Don't listen to Nev he's quoting Djemba Djemba and Kleberson ffs, you would imagine that if it was Ronaldo's dream to play for Barcelona then that's exactly where he would have gone. He could likely have engineered a move to just about any club on the planet and still likely could ;)

I know it's not Chelsea's policy to buy into youth but it's a working policy at a lot of clubs.

Chelsea actually buy youth players at decent prices but not to play them. Just loan them out and then sell them for a profit while buying more Filipe Luis type short term players for good money themselves.

The boat one is probably my favorite Caf-gif of all time. These and jeston's gifs almost made the Thiago transfer saga all worth it.. almost :(

Meanwhile, in the Vidal thread..
It's only hours before this goes from ronaldo's childhood club to a messi v ronaldo debate.

Where the feck is Woodward and what's the latest news on Vidal? This thread need more ambiguous tweets from nigerian rappers and agents I've never heard of.

I meant investing in youth for the future of your own first team, Jones, Smalling and Shaw all cost United hefty fees.
All clubs buy youth players develop them and sell them on at a profit, Fergusons conveyor belt has made us millions.

I was agreeing with your point in that context. Chelsea buy young players for a completely different purpose. Almost to trade them as a plan. (Not even talking about academy acquisitions.)

Isn't it Djemba Djemba and Kleberson who run Agent Edward and Indykalia respectively? I'm afraid I'm going to have to believe him

I would be inclined to disbelieve it if Ronaldo himself said he was a Barcelona fan, the fact remains that players make their own choices based on what they (or likely their agent) feels is best career wise.

OK, I'll leave this here, as it's de-railing the thread and seems to be upsetting you for reasons I don't quite understand.
I'm not at all upset. I found it funny that someone was comparing Vidal and Ronaldo leaving their respective clubs, and reasoning that we were all ok with the Ronaldo move because he left for the "club he loved". I laughed. Everyone who has quoted me since have been butthurt and upset, yourself included.

Bild are reporting tonight Vidal to United for €60 million...

EDIT: False alarm. Upon further inspection, they're only quoting Gazetta della Sport's article. *sadface*

The former Leverkusen Arturo Vidal (27) stands in front of the change from Juventus for Manchester United.
The Chilean supposed to sign 2018, new coach Louis van Gaal wants him absolutely. According to "Gazzetta dello Sport" United increased the range of 43 to 60 million euros.
This will also Bayer Leverkusen forward to: Vidal played from 2007 to 2011, Bayer, now waving the work club between 1.5 million and 2 million Euro transfer lookup.

GDS is the source so.... hmmm...

How would Bild know this? Exactly, according to reports that aren't true.
