Stop. You're not being funny.

So we are playing a cat and mouse game here? We are waiting for the player to indicate he wants to move then we put in a bid that we have prepared so well, and if he don't, we simply just sit back and monitor? This is probably the weirdest transfer I've ever come across

We have to remember that all this is based on assumptions of Journos though.

Does that mean 50m isn't enough for them?!!
No it means Juve will sell for €50m. Never in the history of bidding for anything ever, has saying 'I won't take less than €50' led to someone paying over €50.

The longer version of the tweet (pinched from twitter discussion) words it better:

My guess is that we've actually set a transfer fee and wages maximum on the deal. The agent has been told to call us if he can deliver Juve and the player at the price. So far he hasn't succeeded.

That's just cruel. Reminds me of when people put 'Hazard signs', when the Eden Hazard saga was going on.

 I don't know. That is much cleverer than some sweets next to our badge. Or perhaps I'm just delicate with Vidal related WUMs at the minute...

The deal has to be much more complex than just offering them 50 million euros? Its about 38 million pounds and that is a very decent amount.

  • Either we are waiting for another target
  • Maybe LVG is actually giving Squad time and will only tell who he wants after tomorrow's game/Tour.
  • Maybe we dont have the money? - Not likely
  • Maybe Lvg wants other areas strengthen first?
  • Last but not the least maybe LVG is happy with the midfield :nervous:

I think it will be the second reason. Even when LVG did not want riquelme he told him straight, so may be he plans to do so after the tour and tell the players who are off. WE may have already agreed a contract with Vidal's agent and we might know the fees but are waiting for LVG's signal to get our man. There are too many reasons why this has gone on too long.If we buy vidal now, he wont even have time to settle into the squad although our start makes it easier for us.
I am so confused :(

It seems like it's something like that. Trouble is with the social media times we live in, it's all rumour and counter rumour and it becomes a complete soap opera. The reality is that if you strip this back, it is no further on than it was a month ago. It has not moved on at all. For it to go any further, the player and/or his agent are going to have to force it. I think we'll get a pretty good idea if that might be the case if he goes on tour or if something like a 'minor injury' occurs that causes him to stay in Italy.

I don't think it's inconceivable that he goes and tour and still could move on but I think it's more unlikely, despite what happened with van Persie two years ago in a similar situation.

Just as important to him not having time to settle for us, is that Juventus suddenly will have to replace a super key player for them.

I'd say this transfer is different from any other. We're trying to prise a player from a club who desperately want to keep him and I genuinely think Vidal wouldn't be that devastated if he stayed at Juve. He clearly loves the clubs and has a great relationship with the fans.

In a normal transfer either the club want to sell, or the player forces the move. This relies on Vidal pushing harder, which I think he will eventually, but in the meantime I reckon they're discussing every possible alternative. He doesn't want to appear to be pushing it and destroy that relationship with the fans. Juve don't want to appear like they are willing to sell their best players. Vidal needs to find a Ronaldo styled way to leave, where the fans of his ex-club still love him regardless.

Out of those options it would definitely be no. 2. However I'm very confident the hold up is from Juve/Vidal's end and not ours.

Juve will move to a 4-2-3-1 formation. With 2 being pogba and pirlo. Marchisio/tevez/asamoah/giovinco/perryra taking the front three spots behined morata/llorente.
They are also interested in shaquiri/lavezzi, so i think they wont need vidal at all. He doesnt suit the new formation.

I agree, but whether it be now or a month down the line, that's going to be pretty difficult to find though. We could probably all see from the summer of 2008 that there was a fair chance of Ronaldo leaving for Madrid the following year. This is a bit different in that, bar money, Juventus fans probably can't see a reason why he'd wish to come to us right now. We can because we support the club, but they'll see a side that isn't in the Champions League and think it just comes down to money.

If Vidal leaves, I don't see much chance of him retaining a good relationship with the Juve fans, unless they just accept a bid without him forcing it, which is unlikely.

It's all speculation at this point-so all theories are valid.

If one of the issues is that Vidal is trying to leave without alienating Juve's fanbase (which I think is not a factor) then he needs to grow up fast. As the old saw goes-you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs.

United fans wished Ronaldo well as it was clear that he wanted to play for Real for all of the right reasons (love of the club, etc.).

Vidal will be perceived by Juve fans as leaving for more money-and will resent the transfer because it will expose a hard truth-that Serie A is not in the elite league with England, Spain and Germany when it comes to money.

However-my mood swings from "where there's smoke there's fire" to: Vidal and his agent are just making things up to get more money from Juve coming off the WC.

In other words-I have no clue.

We need a journalist to ask "Louis, what the feck is going on with Vidal, for Christ sake?" in the press conference later.

I am as big a muppet as the next muppet but all these reports have been the same for a month.

Here's what we know:
We are interested but have made no approach(at least officially)
Juve will relucantly sell for an offer circa €50M.
Vidal has been non-committal

Until we either hear reliably of a bid or Vidal fully commits to Juve, there is no news.Everything else is just bullshit or a rehash of the 3 facts above.

Agree. That's pretty much it. I'm guessing selling clubs want to minimise the impact, buying the clubs want to maximise it. It's all about timing....

I would pay good money to see the ensuing death stare.

You never know if somebody asked him about Vidal he might actually give some light on the situation. He spoke openly about Strootman the other week.

Different circumstances as we were about to play Roma and Strootman was a big miss for his Dutch side in the World Cup.

Juventus are keeping him away from their promotional photos and messages on their FB page. Hmmmmmmm

Feck Strootman, Vidal is miles better than him, only a madman would wait for a injured played when the worlds best midifielder looks available at the right price! Surely after Carricks injury Van Gaal won't wait until January for a midfielder? It's actually laughable if we aren't in for Vidal.

Or we could just do the right thing and sign both! Vidal, Strootman, Herrera midfield looks incredibly strong.

We are going to cross the berbetov thread soon. It will be a big day in history of cafe. The biggest transfer thread ever.

Avoided getting drunk with few colleagues who are now pished somewhere. I need this deal to happen tonight to make my evening more interesting and not to think about how I want to get out and get drunk too.

One thing I will say is that if you did sign Vidal do you expect to spend more on top of that? It will mean you will have spent in excess of 110 million already.

Come on woodward, i ll never call you a cnut if you get this done by sunday.

Journos have been briefed to not ask questions about specific deals or transfers surely, it obviously doesn't just skip someone's mind. So even if they did ask, LVG would just brush it aside.

Of course! We still need a CB urgently and this position will be filled before the window shuts. We're also in the market for a good winger at the right price.
