Arturo Vidal

Anybody capable enough to create a timeline since the start of this saga of what Vidal/Juv/United had commented so the rest of us may try to discuss their intentions and the possibilities?

Start at the beginning of this thread and read forward. It's all conveniently in time order for you.

Also, the stories emanating last summer about his woman, re-surfaced again in his decision to go to Chelsea..

Anyway, i hate the prick (always did) & i'm sorry to waste ink on him right now!

Herrera shits all over him :)
So did Anderson (apparently) and look how that turned out!

There was no reason he had to come out with all the not only the lines about being loaded, but also "watch this space", "we know what the fans want" etc.

The window isn't over, clearly things are going on behind the scenes. I expect players to come in as do most fans. There is no reason why that wont happen.

A comment of "watch this space" means just that - the club are doing things, trying to make things happen and want to progress. It doesnt mean that there are umpteen superstar players imminent or signing in the next week. If people misunderstand what's said and want to read more into it then they're evidently going to be dissapointed.

I personally prefer an honest and positive comment like that, to what we're used to - i.e. "there's no value, we've got a good squad" etc. At the end of the day, the club will be judged on where we are at the end of the transfer window for me. The noises that have been made have been positive, I like the fact that the business is not being done out in the open under press scrutiny and I'll from an opinion when the dust settles and not before.

As I;ve said before, years ago, people would have waited until the end of the summer to see where we were, now people seem to expect in depth comment from the club about every twist and turn, and updates on which players they want. Clearly these things take time and I have no issue with the club not rushing into buying players. Im happy to trust Van Gaal to get the right players and get the right results.

There has been very little progression on this story just rumour after rumour, especially after we were expecting something after Vidal came back to training this week. Because it is dragging out so long i don't think this one is happening. :(

Ideally it would be good if we heard something before Juve jet off on Sunday but I wouldn't think it was over, regardless if Vidal is with the Juve squad on not come Sunday. If he stays behind then that's a dead give away that he's on his way out. If United/Juve are wanting to keep this on the down-low then it would be in their best interests to take Vidal on their pre-season tour and if something is agreed while he is away he can fly back. Unless, of course, the deal is nearing completion and will be done before Juve jet off, we may very well have this all done by the weekend.

Wishful thinking, I know, and there is still the whole of August to get things done so I'm not worried by it. I still believe Vidal will be ours by the time August 31st comes along.

SAF once said, the hardest players to sign are always the best signings. #HOPE

I hope you are right, but at the same time i don't want us chasing targets we will never get and end up signing someone like Fellaini on deadline day like last year. If we can't get him we should move on to other targets.

I would be more than happy to send Fellaini straight to Turin if that helps.

Fellaini should be instructed to cut his hair similar to Vidal's and no one would notice the difference.

I think this is still very much on, you just have to look at Vidal's actions to get the clues

On Holiday he is speaking to the press everyday, quotes here, quotes there but essentially its 'I will decide when I return'

He has now returned, he cannot fail to be aware of the furore going on and what do Juve fans get to calm their nerves? Nothing, nada. It would take a matter of seconds to quash this rumour and he hasn't taken that opportunity

You wouldn't have to worry about that under Van Gaal. If he is indeed after Vidal and doesn't get him he won't panic and splash an insane amount of money on an average.

I think the rise of social media is to blame for the latter. Twitter has created a culture whereby mindless fans have become mini-agents and negotiators within the confines of their own head. Journalists too, have embraced this culture and only exacerbated it.

Anyone checked SkyScanner to see how much flights are from Turin to Manchester? I'll happily chip in a few quid to help get the big man here.

Not to mention everyone here seems to think they're United's accountant, saying how much a player is worth and how much we can apparently afford.

Any time I see any tweets or "news articles" about how close Vidal is to coming to United, I know in my head that they are just rumours. I know that people are re-tweeting old info and just making shit up to stir the pot. I know that United has a bad track record in getting marquee signings, and I know there are a lot of reasons for Vidal to stay in Juventus. In my head I know all this, but honestly, I just can't help myself. I'm starting to hope.

I know what you mean. Metro rehashing the same old stuff this morning, but somehow seeing it in print on the train to work makes it feel more believable... The papers wouldn't lie, would they?

Don't you get tired of rehashing the same posts, and giving them reason to rehash their nothing articles?

Maybe that's why the angry anti-muppets get annoyed at the optimism, and post messages saying we should close the thread etc. Maybe they believe in ArturON too, but they can't handle the seemingly inevitable pain at the end of the transfer window. It actually hurts them more than the usual muppets. So they think if they could convince us that they don't believe it, maybe they'll convince themselves too.

I still think if we want him we can get him.

Though that depends on whether van Gaal sees him as a player who fits his system.

I was on the tube in a carriage full of men. I read on the Metro that Vidal is going to hand in a transfer request. I got a boner. I felt embarrassed.

Indeed. Journo's dont have a lot of choice I suppose - they need to seem relevant even though the print media is becoming increasing obsolete for anyone over 30.

Some stuff you read on here sums it up. I've read people making comments along the lines of Transfers of players taking a "few days" - totally ignoring the reality of not only the footballing side of things, the legal and financial issues and the fact that footballers are actually human beings who probably need to think about mundane things like houses, schools for their kids and whether the wife will be happy moving to a totally different country, culture and climate.

Obviously we'd all like the business to be done and dusted this summer, so we can see where we stand. I can see why people are frustrated to be fair, but there's no need to panic yet.
