Look how long did it take Costa's and Luis' transfers to complete and compare it to Herrera and Shaw. If anything the matter in which we're dealing with is far better than before.
Costs did take a long time to finalize but the difference is that there was never any real doubt they would get Costa (atleast to me anyway), while with us there is always huge doubt.

Man City go into negotiations with briefcases full of cash
Chelsea go into negotiations with a cheque book
Woodward goes into negotiations with a coin purse
Like the £37mil in coins for Mata, the £27mil we threw at Southampton for Shaw, and the £28mil in loose change we triggered the clause for Herrera with?

Some of you guys talk a big pile of balls at times.

We are dealing with transfers (and alot of other things) far better than before, but we still have a long way to go.
Chelsea identified their weak areas and bought the best available to fill the positions (Cesc, Costa and Luis)

They got World class replacements in a timely fashion, which is how I hoped we would conduct business this summer, but again... as long as we have LVG this ship has a captain.
The last point makes a lot of sense. Right now none of the English medias have a clue what we're doing in the market.

Are you guys forgetting that there is a possibility that Van Gaal actually doesn't want Vidal here?
Are you suggesting that people should not be discussing a transfer they desire because of a possibility that the manager doesn't want him?

As our club refers to itself as 'the biggest in the world', this should be a given. In todays market, these prices are the norm, I am talking about the BIG transfers. I also think that had we not been so damn shite last season, we would have also started haggling with even the price of these three players.

Not imo , only way he's not coming is he just doesn't want to leave. No "LVG pulled the plug" this time. He likes the player and wanted him before he moved to Juventus.

If he does not want vidal, he can always turn to our current midfielders, an injured carrick, an ageing fletcher, anderson who is not fit for no more than 5 mins, fellaini who VG does not want, and god help us if herrera picks up an injury. So turn to vidal, or? these guys who have been outplayed by the most average of the PL teams midfielders. More likely vidal did not want to join, much like 70% of the top players did not want to play for us, such the pulling power of MUFC

I do not know if woodward knows what he is doing
He proved from Herrera and Shaw deals that he has learned a lot from the debacle of last season and now has a lot more composure. Whether its enough to get the absolute best players in the world we've to wait and see.

Last 24 months:

Van Persie - 24M & 250K p/w
Fellaini - 27.5M & 100K p/w
Herrera - 29.1M & 75k p/w
Mata - 37.1M & 130K p/w
Shaw - 27M & 100k p/w

Penny pinching motherf*****s.

Shaw and herrera should be his bread and butter signings, clause in contracts, buy them out. That is his job is to be ruthless and get the required signings, its july 30th and still nothing, has each day passes by he is failing once again. It is quiet simple, we need 3 defenders, 2 midfielders, how difficult is that woodward to understand?

The fact that we can't possibly be planning on going into the season without a new midfielder, and there's practically no noise about anybody else, makes me hopeful that this isn't the case.
Don't be silly. This is all part of our plan to blindside some other team for one of their players who hasn't been linked with us and then Bam! it makes absolutely no difference to the price or the other teams interested and we realise we've spent all summer thinking ourselves into a corner.

Now that sums up the entire situation.

That would have been the case last year but the transfers of Herrera, Mata, Shaw and Fellaini prove that we are not averse to paying release clause figures for players we want.
I think if LVG identifies a player, Woodie will do his best, I trust that is going on regarding Vidal as we speak.

Maybe we already have signed Vidal but Juve doesn't want us to announce right now? So that they don't have to overpay to teams knowing that they just got a hefty fee? Its all IFs but that isn't an impossible scenario. I'd be worried if we haven't signed someone by 10th August but right now we've to play the waiting game.

Another 3 defenders and 2 midfielders??? Stop playing Football Manager. City total spend on 3 players £18m this summer and have really closed the Mangala deal quickly. Herrera and Shaw are nothing??

What? No chance.

Maybe LVG has his heart set on Strootman & he thinks what's the point in paying loads of money for a midfielder when it looks like the midfield will be Herrera, Mata & one other player.

More likely we all have no clue what's going on at all & we're torturing ourselves.

no offense but the herrera, mata and shaw are big transfers. 50 million for luiz, 80 million for bale and so on, these are grossly inflated prices.

To be fair, the Shaw and Herrara deals were done over a month ago. What have we done since then regarding transfers? All transfers should be done as soon as possible and give the players the chance of some kind of a preseason. All we do is talk about transfers, how we have so much to spend, etc. All talk at this point. Other teams get the deals done, not talk about them.

Does anybody have any idea of the process of buying a player???

From identifying the target, 'preparing' the bid, submitting the bid, at which point is money transferred bla bla bla??

I, for the life of me cannot work out how things take so long.

How is that FM? when you see how little we have in terms of strength in depth at the back, yea shaw and herrera are not going to transform united's squad, but part of the pieces that means we need a few more. Carrick in injured until october and he is 33, herrera is our only top class CM we have possibly, beyond that? it is cleverly fletcher anderson fellaini, yea it is totally FM when you see the options in defence and midfield. No way will rafeal jones smalling and evans stay fit all season long, we have lost 4 defenders this summer and only one has been replaced

They first have to decide how much money they're going to give the agent & which club will pay it.
They then have to all set up Swiss bank accounts under their dog's names & wait for their card & pin to be sent out. Remember that they're sent out separately so that can take a few days.

Then they have to pay the other club using that contactless tappy thing which has a limit of £20 so it can take a while.

Last year people moaned about Fellaini last minute signing, fair enough, this year we get 2 in early and still moaning because we have signed anyone for a few weeks, do we have to buy a player every day ? Secondly Chelsea have only signed 3 players not 25. City haven't done much, Arsenal signed Sanchez, sure we're not finished yet but we need a midfielder and a CB - that's all.
And I hope Vidal is the midfielder

I didn't say we had to sign a player every day.

The other teams have strengthened their obvious weaknesses relatively quickly. We need to improve more than them considering how far we were behind.

Neither of those teams finished 7th in the league, and then went on to lose 4 first team players. Signing 2 players is not enough, you'd be a fool to think otherwise, even with the Van Gaal factor.

I'm secretly hoping we make an announcement tonight like the one with RvP

'United agree deal with Juventus, player to move subject to medical'

I can't remember, were there a lot of reports saying we were gonna sign Van Persie? What I do recall is that I didn't believe it one bit and filed it under paper bollocks until I saw it myself on Sky Sports News.

Because its not our money so we dont actually care ourselves, but theres people out there whos money it actually is.. its between 40 and 60 million. You have to be pretty damn sure you actually want this player.

It is slightly funny when people are like 'ffs why cant we just pay the extra 10 million', as though they have it spare themselves!
