CL football never helped us sign the big names either tho!

Exactly, wonder what our summer 2009 signings were when we lost ronaldo and tevez? along with being champions of england, the world, and league cup winners
Ah yes - owen valencia obertan diouf. So what has changed now?

Sorry but this "LVG turned it down", thing that's been trotted out a few times is such a complete load of garbage. Great excuse.

They ain't coming here. We haven't got CL football and it's biting us in the ass trying to sign these big names.

Exactly, but hey people can believe what they want, I mean Mitten said it^^
It makes sense too reject all those players to play Cleverley and Fellaini instead

i dont get why people are so surprised by all this, one of the best players in the world probably wont leave one of the worlds biggest clubs.......... not exacly a shocker

Well then there is clearly something wrong with this club. Not paying agent fees, trying to haggle far too much, Manchester is a turn off. Either way they don't come from foreign leagues to play here.

Well the club must look to their academy and work harder bringing players through, if they cannot get the players in through transfers

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The muppet dream is over

It's well known the club is doing something wrong it might be the fact we take ages to get deals done.

Well if it's true that one of we've decided to stop pursuing Vidal, he's turned us down, or if we were never in for him anyways, that's seriously disappointing. But I'm not sure why we should treat Mitten's latest comments as an absolute certainty that this won't happen. Obviously signs aren't promising, but the fact of the matter is nobody really knows what's going on. In LVG I trust.

We need a William Carvalho more than a Vidal. Someone who will stick just in front of the penalty area and cover for Herrera running abouy.

Getting Vidal in would mean that he or Herrera would need to be reined in and do that job which would not play to either of their strength. So yes. STATIC midfielder IN.

Not much fun for the mugs that have over £1000 on Vidal joining us :nervous:

I tried to warn people in here weeks back but got called every name under the sun.
Yeah, but you knew the grand sum of feck all either. The ones who said "this is never happening" have no more insight than those who said it was. I always laugh when people say "I told you're we weren't signing him" as if it was any more than a pull a guess out of your arse stab in the dark. None of us know anything about what goes on behind the scenes with regards transfers dealings.

What its off?
Feck no!
I refuse to believe that until the market is closed!

I'm a bit confused, so what's with all the revisionist "well we never sign players like this anyways"? If you all knew that than why even entertain the thought to begin with and let this thread grow to almost 300 pages?

Nobody questioning Van Gaal? He just turned down one of the best CM's in Europe while our midfield is filled with average dross.
Nah people will keep deluding themselves than LVG is all the team needs and that him being the manager has automatically solved all the issues, because y'know every single thing that happened last season was unequivocally Moyes' fault and nothing to do with the fact that the team might have some defencies. So don't despair, LVG is here.

TBH he'd only be back up for Herrera, so I trust LVG in rating De Jong a higher priority. Vidal can feck off to Liverpool
*Burns Vidal United Shirt and goes off to buy a De Jong shirt*

You mean an intelligent, holding centre mid with positional discipline? Static implies an inanimate object like Gareth Barry.

Still think James McCarthy would suit us down to the ground, but no doubt the muppets would rather an unknown quantity like Carvalho.

James McCarthy would be perfect for you lot as it stands now. Thankfully he is Martinez's love child or something.

People really believe LVG 'turned down' Vidal...?

This transfer didnt go through for whatever reason but I doubt LVG would turn down Vidal if there was a chance of getting him. Maybe in the end it was all made up, and blown over by the media..

it's no more off now, then it was ever on!

a few garbled words from Vidal racing through an airport means sh!t.

Oh great Captain Hindsight is here!

So one of the best players in the world has never moved from one big club to another? Do I really need to list some examples? There's a fair few to choose from this transfer window alone. Vidal has achieved everything he is likely to achieve at Juve already. Unless you see them winning the CL within his career, which I certainly don't, then it's about time he moved as he's at his peak. Whether it be to us or someone else, surely we can at least agree it's pretty clear he's open to a move.

Yeah and also a quoted tweet by Mitten doesn't change anything, don't know why everyone needs to get in full muppet mode after every stupid tweet^^

The transfer was never likely for me, now just wait till monday and then we will hear some news. The only thing I don't get it is why Woody talked again about big transfers, when it's really not that likely that we will sign a big name this summer.

A fabricated story that metastasized off twitter quoting tabloids which quoted other tabloids and the delusional fanaticism of people seeking a boost in their self esteem by signing the hyped player of the moment.

A McCarthy-Herrera midfield would have an awful lot going for it alright. Intelligence, mobility, technical ability and the potential for both of them to keep developing.

Definitely won't happen though as a) Martinez loves McCarthy and b) Everton would hold out for an absolutely insane fee.

I don't think anyone can explain it. And then Van Gaal comes out and says he hasn't even judged our players yet to see what we need.

If it'd been bluster for sponsors, all good, but we've just sealed our biggest deals.

Don't get why everyone's slating the club for this. There was feck all evidence we were interested to begin with. If you're angry about this then you're a complete idiot for putting so much faith into something with so little substance.

And also, y'know, for getting angry about football transfer rumours. Priorities, lads.

Its over for me too. Given up on vidal once andy mitten says its over. This has made me depressed. Why cant we sign a great player of a top top team? Woodward watch this space? feck off! All words no action.

Yes it would have a lovely balance going for it wouldn't it. Moyes really missed the boat going after Fellaini over McCarthy.

Why are you blaming Woodward when it is "supposedly" and "seemingly" LvG who 'kiboshed' the move?

What's the last big player we signed from a top team or a player that's it was apparent other top teams also wanted?
I would say Veron. It's not the utd way. The only players we generally go big for are English. We've must have record for the highest fees for English talent?

Maybe RvP or Kagawa choose yourself.

That's a good point actually... Where did this all start from? I mean what was the actual catalyst? Anyone?

It's not what we're saying to the press that concerns me, it's Vidal almost laughing at the thought of signing for us.
True or not doesn't concern me! When it comes to United, everyone knows who has the last laugh! (The past season was a blip and exception you know?) I would not worry one bit.

It was woodward's words that made me believe we were after him, his watch this space and we could break the transfer record speech inspired the muppet in me.
Its all over now. Those words feel so empty.
It seems like louis van gaal will be using cheaper players/younger players weather they are bought or brought through academy. It does take the fun element away though, i mean look at Madrid , barca, chelsea, city hell even arsenal buying players to cover their weak spots. While the self proclaimed biggest club in the world ignores gaping holes in midfield. I know its a bit of an overreaction, but its dissappointing that we are not in for top top players and are still shopping at bargain basement.

I hate moyes, i really do but if he had tried for de vrij and vermalin this place would have lost its head. Now its van gaal it seems okay. its funny.

Andy Mitten was a main one. The muppets here thought he was some kind of source guru with regards to United. He has been clearly found out. He said, Hummels and Vidal have been our primary targets. Well, they are not here.. are they??.

Hargreaves from munich too, ferdinand from leeds, mata from chelsea.

But Woodward never mentioned Vidal, he said if LvG 'the Boss' wants a player we have the funds and capability to get that player, let's see what happens

Hold on...Mitten was the one that started it all of and now this latest bout of muppet e-suicide is because Mitten has said that it's off?? Am even more confused.
