Arturo Vidal

This is such a lazy arrogant way of doing transfers if true. We should just wrap up the transfers and not worry about paying an extra 10 mill if needed. It's similar when we tried to sign Ronaldinho and tried to pay the least amount possible, it just pissed of PSG who then jst sold him to Barca.

Why does have to be such a problem? Manchester United, as much as it is a football club, is also in many ways a business. And as a business, when you want to make a deal, you want to come out of it with the very best deal you can. In this case it means getting a very good player for as little as possible. If we get him reasonably cheap then it means we have made a great deal and have more money to spend on other players. Besides, we don't want to hand any initiative to the selling team and let them dictate the terms. This could give them the opportunity to make as much as they can from us and look for more even if we are already offering a huge amount. So instead of offering 50m, they could drive us up to 60 or 70m. By taking control, we are acting as the stronger hand and forcing them to make a decision. And if someone else does come in, we can still up our price if we have to.

Exactly. He's basically backed himself into a horrible corner now. If we don't buy any big name players, or buy a player or two from the second tier, then he'll get pelters, even if he was acting on instructions from LVG. So he'll be left with the choice of being publicly called out for his 'failures' or having to have the manager come out and say "It's okay. He was just doing what I told him to." The most logical way to have dealt with it was simple answer the question with a straight bat: "The manager makes the footballing decisions and if he asks us to buy him a player(s) we'll do our best to bring that player in".

In my life experience most people who brag about having a lot of cash generally don't. United have season tickets to sell and sponsors to attract. No doubt the Glazers will be very uncomfortable with the thought of spending £100m+ on players (let alone £200m), and they will be wondering whether a Van Gaal plus two good signings will be enough to achieve our goals.

He skirted round about it - he said "whether its a record or not...". He did specifically reference £60m, £70m, £80m. He should keep his mouth shut. I thought he had learned his lesson.

I still feel as though the only way he would say that is if we already made the deal.

0% chance that we have signed a player and not announced it yet. We might do that in March, but not in July.

I would say it's pretty self-evident that we have money. Whether they're willing to spend that money is another day's work, but I suspect they know they have to strengthen the squad if they're going to keep attracting premium sponsors and all that jazz.

I was thinking Vidal.
This one is still very much up in the air.

Its really not - unless the club are lying when they are briefing hacks that we have no interest. Plus he would not be going for that amount.

There is no player out there available around those prices. The top players are all unobtainable. Its more maverick talk from a guy who needs to keep his mouth shut. He was doing so well in the early part of the window but he couldnt resist. Its very easy for him to talk like that when there is nobody out there to go and buy.

considering we got the highest sponsorship deal ever (by an absolute mile) off the back of our worst ever PL season, the Glazer's probably think we could play in the conference and it still wouldn't be a problem.

Weren't the season tickets just announced as all being sold out, so that is one job done. Doing well attracting sponsors also. They may also be wondering what it will take to get the club back on top again so that they can up the ticket prices and attract even more sponsors. No way of really knowing.

Marotta: "Vidal? Juve want to keep it close "
The ad Juventus: "I would be surprised if in the coming days chiuedesse to go away. We renewed last season. Eto'o? I do not imbalance, I prefer to be cautious . Surely numerically we need at least a bit. I confirm that we are in search of a more forward, of an average profile »

VINOVO - (fc) Talk to the Juventus Beppe Marotta: "So far we are satisfied with the market , we hit the goals we needed. We want to close as soon as possible so that they can coach Allegri on the framework pink. We are aware of the difficulties. The market is in continuous evolution. Vidal? Renewed with us last season and has been a renewal desired by both parties. Notthere are reasons that may affect his departure. Yesterday was picking up the suitcases and maybe it was misunderstood. Vidal is happy to stay with us. He has been dealing with a knee injury, so it will recover. The quality can not be discussed, as his sense of belonging. then, I'd be surprised if Vidal asked me to be sold in the coming days. Arturo is one of the most important players in the world. We want to keep him close. I do not think he wants to leave. Eto'o? I do not imbalance, I prefer to be cautious. Surely numerically we need at least a bit. I confirm that we are on the search for another striker, with an average profile. "

If I never heard anything about Vidal, juventus, Marotta or any shite italian papers again I'd be delighted.

What goods having an unlimited transfer fund if you cant seem to attract the top talents. frustrating doesn't quite cut it right now, Although herrerra has given some degree of respite. Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Chelsea, PSG and city are able to play the transfer market like a fifa Game, they quickly identify positions they want to strengthen and they go out and grab one of if not the top player in that position without fail pretty much every single window (a few outliers sure). Without trying to sound entitled, were manchester united aren't we not? built our reputation on dominating english football and being a real force in Europe. and we did that by having top players, a top manager and brilliant fan support.

We wont get players at market value, nobody does. Identify a player the manager wants, sit down at a table and put together a deal. this evaluating the squad has to be bollocks to some degree. there are players who are 100% ready to be shifted off and in need of replacing with true quality.

I wonder when the Hernadez/Vidal swap stories will start to emerge?

I remain possitive on this one. I think all will be sorted next week one way or another.

The thing is, when it comes to Vidal at least, there has been no mention of offers being too low or being unable to attract him. He seems positively open to a move. If this doesn't happen it'll be because LVG doesn't want him imo.

If this was ever on, then I think it still is. If it wasn't, then obviously it isn't.

Some of the journalists who were adamant it was on still are certain it's happening.

I remain highly doubtful yet I still can't stop checking Vidal rumours. I definitely think he is available at the right price.

He may not be what you want but he's an improvement on our current options.

That said, after all Woodward's talk over the last months its extremely underwhelming.
His not what I want because his an extremely limited footballer who won't compliment Herrera very well.

So i agree that there are better options out there but i disagree with the general point. He's a lot better than given credit for and he would give Herrera a bit more freedom.

That said, id prefer a more dynamic midfielder. It all points towards LVG wanting Strootman.

And when he leaves, they'll say he forced it.

Exactly.

(Again, I am not saying it's happening or anything, but nothing has really changed in the last couple of weeks.)

Marotta simply has to say that, as Bilbao did, as Ferguson said about the virus, etc.

I log in everyday, hoping to see some news about Vidal.

But everyday, I get disappointed.

And yet, I still wake up in the morning with hopes of the title changing to Vidal signed.

Strangely parallels my current quest for female companionship.

I personally don't us signing City rejects, his a fairly good midfield destroyer but as a footballer he isn't any better than our current options. I'd much rather go for Gonalons from Lyon. Our scouting needs questioning if we can't find a good midfielder for a decent price and better then De Jong.

While I do think we will get Strootman we can't afford to wait and it's not exactly possible Roma will sell in January especially if they are aiming to win the league.

Out of curiosity, who do you think is more dynamic?

Vidal by a mile - just because im saying its not going to happen doesnt mean i dont want it too. To me, he's the perfect player for our midfield but looks like Van Gaal disagrees.
