Arturo Vidal

Don't be too surprised if our transfer business is concluded people. If we really are a buying club, there is absolutely no logic in Woodward repeatedly stating how mega-fecking rich we are. Not exactly going to lead to us getting a bargain, or even a fair price for a player.

He also said to 'watch this space' regarding new transfers. Odd thing to say if we're done for the summer, unless his aim is to intentionally wind the fans up.

I was thinking this earlier. It can't be can it? There be an uproar

That would be dangerous though, yes I am happy with the two signings we've already made but the squad isn't good enough. The defense is weak, the midfield apart from Herrera is average. We still need 2/3 top quality arrivals to get challenging again.

There is no way our transfer business is concluded for this transfer window. Woodward isnt crazy and really seems to want the best for the club.
Also LVG is a fantastic manger, but he isnt a sorcerer... anyone can see our side needs at least 2 more additions.

Louis Van Gaal is a smart man. He probably knows that buying Vidal will limit the ability of our two number 8 if they played together. When we bought Herrera, I knew that this Vidal sega was just going to be another Fabregas or Thiago episode that some of our fans will follow like sheeps. Nevertheless, I still have hope that we are in the market for a number 6 to complement Herrera and perhaps another number 8 like Mateo kovacic/Oliver Torres to play under Ander Herrera as beside maybe Powell, the quality/potential in that area is really lacking.

If you were in a store full of items with no set price tag, and you pulled out a massive roll of cash before starting negotiations, how do you think this would effect the discussion?

I'm not saying that I believe our business is done, but I wouldn't be surprised. Either way, its incredibly naive to tell the world over and over how flush with cash we are. If you were Juve, you would resolve to squeeze every last penny out of us, while at the same time taking France's 1st choice left-back from us for a song.

I've heard some praise for Woodward this summer. I don't doubt his ability to generate revenue, but I have serious reservations about his ability to spend it.

Prophetic words from Vidal on all this transfer muppetry:

"The unfed mind devours itself.” Gore Vidal that is...

I was talking the exact way you did last summer, but since then I have gained a bit of faith in Woodward.
It took awhile to get to this place, I will never forget waking up Sep 1st last year with the realization that the only player we managed to sign was Fellaini, who was so bad he could be considered a negative signing...whenever he was on the pitch it was like we had 10 men on.

I do not think Woodward would have made those statements unless we had at least one top signing in the bag... if not Ed is some some of kamikaze CEO and this is the kind of thing that costs one his job, not to mention he will be the laughing stock of all of Europe.

I still think Vidal is on his way and its a matter of time.

I said this earlier, but not for the reasons you are giving.

This seemed the oddest piece of bravado I've seen from a such a big club. Why did it need saying?

We're clearly loaded, no matter what Woodward says. If he'd tried to claim finances were tight and we couldn't afford big fees it would have been no less stupid than what he did say. Especially after spunking 30m quid on a teenage fullback.

What he said won't have any impact on negotiations at all. It was a bit crass and unnecesary, though. All it's done is increase the pressure on himself to actually deliver what he keeps on promising.

I would also point out that our financial statements are a matter of public record as our all the announcements of our sponser deals, so pretty sure every club can figure out whether we have some cash to spend or not. So end of the day it really did not need to be said by Ed.

Boring, boring, boring. It's got to the stage now where if Juve are serious about keeping him and we are seriously not interested it would be great for United to officially put a statement out, it's not unheard of and would keep things nice and tidy rather than this utter farce of reporters at airports and loose statements from club officials.

Just a simple tweet: "Alot of media speculation and rumours have led some fans to think we will be pursuing Arturo Vidal, we can confirm we have had no contact and are not actively seeking any kind of deal for the player, we are monitoring other positions and hope to improve them under the managers guidance. Thank you"

Then Juve could easily come out with something like. "Contrary to recent rumours Juventus FC would like to reiterate that the player Arturo Vidal is very much part of our future plans and will definitely not be sold under any conditions this summer and that stance will not change no matter what may come our way. Vidal has stated he is happy with his family in Juventus and player and manager are agreed that he is a vital cog in the club going forwards"

Saga over. Everyone knows where they stand, all fans move on, we look at other targets. Done. But no we have weeks and weeks and weeks of utter non-sense. I'm fed up with it but can't help but look since the player would be the ultimate signing.

I can not wait for this window to firmly SHUT. I'm growing ever more tired of x player denying terms at x club.

I'm one of the strong believers he will come, and I'm 60% sure he will, but for heavens sake Woodward, if your reading this, help us out!

It's clearly just a distraction whilst we sign Robben.

You know a transfer saga is too much when even the ITK's are well and truly sick of it.

then we can do it all again in january.

To be fair, there's no reason to do it if we aren't buying either - it was a totally pointless thing to say.

Exactly. He's basically backed himself into a horrible corner now. If we don't buy any big name players, or buy a player or two from the second tier, then he'll get pelters, even if he was acting on instructions from LVG. So he'll be left with the choice of being publicly called out for his 'failures' or having to have the manager come out and say "It's okay. He was just doing what I told him to." The most logical way to have dealt with it was simple answer the question with a straight bat: "The manager makes the footballing decisions and if he asks us to buy him a player(s) we'll do our best to bring that player in".

The only thing that's keeping me somewhat optimistic about this is that he is yet to come right out and say definitively that he is happy at Juve and he will be staying at Juve. All we've gotten so far is non-committal "I don't knows" from him. Will be good to have all of this concluded one way or the other on Monday.

I don't remember word for word but I think he pretty much said the same thing. But obviously people would prefer to concentrate on the other things he said: "can spend 60-70m on a player, no budget" etc.

People beginning to realise this aint happening? De Jong, Blind, and Vermaelen is who im expecting.

Very big of Woodward to be talking about breaking transfer records when there is nobody to buy. Why he continually puts pressure on himself ill never know.

How can it possibly not have a bearing on our transfer negotiations? We don't have a great deal of power in the transfer market this summer as it is, what with our general desperation for players and no CL football. All that did was reduce it further.

I personally couldn't care less how much we spend on a player. I don't think we do ourselves any favours though.

Although he didnt really say that..
