Arturo Vidal

After Van Gaal's comments today, its pretty much certain that we won't be buying the likes of Vida/Hummels/Di Maria. Any more singing will be in that 18-24 age range, with potential. Rather then any established stars.

A shame, after all the promises over the season, but not a surprise.

What exactly did he say that makes you so sure? What happened to you Sam, since when did you become such a downer? OMGSTOPBEINGSODOWN

Don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted if we signed him. But I'd be even more excited by 2 midfielders in their early 20s who can obviously play.

Has Vidal got an attitude/ego? Or is he down to earth?
He has 'King Arturo' tattooed on the inside of his bicep, if that counts as having an ego these days

Not even van Gaal himself knows these kind of things as fact. It alway's amuses me when people assume that they know everything. The truth is, nobody bloody knows!. :)

As people have mentioned, he said in the press conference about us buying young players and bringing them on, rather then established older players. I don't have the exact quotes though.

Its not so much a downer, I just get really angry/frustrated with the club constantly talking about how big we are, and how we can attract big name players, and will spend huge sums of money, when its patently untrue. I love United, and I have no problem with us buying young talent and nurturing them. But why the need to constantly bullshit the fans, and pretend we're something more then we are? Why the need to raise the fans expectations?

In regards to Pogba, is it just me that thinks there's absolutely no way that

A.) the board would sanction a huge bid for a player that has already left
B.) Pogba would want to come back?

Mitten went on record stating that Man Utd only buy players that show a desire to play for them. Pogba doesn't (as far as I can see) fall into that category.

Just my tuppence worth!

Chin up man, we've spent a shit load in the last 12 months, have a world class manager, and have signed 3 very good players in the last 6 months. If we can get rid of the deadwood and add a couple of more players, it'd be a damn good summer IMO!

I'm disappointed in you that you didn't get my OMG reference! If anyone actually gets that reference, have a virtual high five from me.

OHMYGODSTOPTHREATNINGME!

Well PSG got Verratti on the cheap, Juve got Vidal on the cheap and many other quality midfielders have moved for low fees in recent years. But the fact that these players have switched clubs while we needed to strengthen in the midfield position makes me doubt the ability of our scouts to find out talents like these who will be available on the cheap. We need a sure thing at the moment.

We got Pogba and Januzaj at a young age, Daehli has a lot of talent also, Pereira has the talent to make it here, Janko looks pretty good, we got Hernandez cheap, haven't seen much of him, but we got Henriquez cheap and he's rated quite highly, we got Rafael on the cheap. It doesn't happen consistently, but we still find top talents for small amounts of money. If we had kept Pogba he would have been considered of the same mould as the two you mentioned. Januzaj should be too imo.

I've yet to see anyone actually prove LVG said these things. Why is nobody providing links?

He did, however, say this:

"At this moment, I cannot say anything about the squad and additions. I want to learn about my players and get to know them. When I am the coach and when I give the orders to my players to play a certain way, I want to see how they perform.

"That is why I cannot answer this question just now. I want to give all players the chance to show themselves under my guidance."

Why would he say things like this, then go on about buying stars or whatever?

Well even the journalists who are apparently in the loop all say we want Vermaelen.

Sounds like another Balotelli. Do not want.
I've mislead you. On the flip side I saw this in a Sport Witness article the other day:
Arturo Vidal has a tattoo on his arm saying 'King Arturo', he's aware of his status and has proven previously to have an awful lot of self confidence. The self styled best midfielder in the world has assumed responsibility for his role to the Chilean people and his travels around the country during his time off have been almost monarch like.

Vidal does it right, it's not all about bragging how he's the best, he uses his status to help others in his own country. He's a national hero and has helped back a sports centre in Chicureo. It will help the local community and has 4 football pitches, 2 tennis courts and even an Olympic sized swimming pool. Then there's a stadium being built which will be named after the player, all with funding driven largely by Vidal himself.

I would be disappointed if he came back here, since he left he has done nothing but bleat on about how hard done to he was here.

Thanks. I was kidding, of course.

He's the real deal on the pitch from what I've seen of him.

It's not just something the club says, we genuinely are a giant in the world of football. A kit deal worth 750 million over 10 years is a pretty good indication that we're enormous.

You're addressing a philosophy. I wouldn't disagree with Van Gaal that the general principle of bringing through the youth is the way to go; it's been the case at United for yonks now and we never complained before. Why now? Does that rule out buying players like Vidal to supplement the youth? Absolutely not. Not from any rational basis I can imagine.

The bit about him having already left wouldn't be a factor I would like to think.

Also, I am working under the premise that we would not actually be able to sign him if he didn't want to play here.

If we pushed ahead with a deal, I trust that there are enough people at the club who know him better than caftards who can judge. The likes of Giggs for example played with him, and from what I gather, the class of 92 boys rate him super highly. Rio often speaks highly of him too and says he would love United to sign him.

We've already signed two midfielders for around £25m in the past 12 months. True, one of them is a useless gangly hairball.

Herrera will be majestic, and I'd suggest Strootman in January would be the other £25m one. But Vidal would take us to the next level.

I think I'm going to use that term from now on. Perfect description really.
