And we laugh at RAWK!

And rightly so - they'd already have banners made, with "A Hero From Chilli has Arisen out of the Mist, like" on 'em.

There is a difference between not commenting and blatantly denying it when questioned. We created our own problem with Fabregas last year.
It's not like Fergie ever denied a transfer was going to happen...

All we have publically said is we are monitoring target's and progressing. Any reports by Journo's are either being twisted or simply being told what we want them to hear.

Theyre not off the record though - each of these journos have subseuquently wrote about it. Simon Jones, David McDonnell etc. Ogden and Ladyman are just back from holiday so id be interested to see what they go to print with this weekend.

Well, like you said, we're constantly linked to players. Sometimes persistently. Yet we never go out of our way to brief the press that we're not in for the player. I will wait until Vidal is back in Italy, things will become clearer then. Until then our denial means 1 of 2 things for me:

- We were in for him but all the knee investigation stories had us nervous and we backed out
- We are keeping the press in the dark like we always have (bar last season) and we are still very much pursuing him, possibly even a done deal already

My guess it that by end next week we will know which one is true.

Comes down to your own perception of that comment - i think he's talking about rumoured interest.

Vidal "I’ve heard of interest from Real Madrid as well as that of Manchester United, but these are things there that my agent is dealing with."

What's his agent doing dealing with 'rumoured' interest? Also, one British journo (think it was Jackson?) said he was on the phone with Vidal's agent who simply told him to sod off and that he doesn't talk with the press. Why not just go on record then and clear the air??

Speaking to his phone company to get Woody's number blocked?

To be fair, I think that was a case of either the journo fibbing or the agent fibbing. My theory being that what was really said was a case of "I don't talk to you unless I want to talk to you, and I don't want to talk to you." Other journalists were quick to point out that he does indeed talk to journalists.

I love how you keep an eye out on the Scousers Steve, especially in the Rawk thread. I might visit the forum next season in a pressurised situations. Just to see the meltdown for myself. :)

Occasionally we do when a good player is there, and we always have throughout the Ferguson reign.

we havent really though. bar maybe rvp and veron. certainly not on the barcelona/madrid scale. we tend to go for players who have potential and make them world class and they have to want to come to the club. We never got involved in bidding wars after ronadinho

Saying "if the Manchester United deal falls through" sounds like more than a rumor.....unless he's a transfer muppet himself.
And he's not going to be getting his information from newspaper articles, it'll be from his agent.

This thing is dead. Van Gaal himself said something on the lines of "we don't buy established superstars"

Those are dangerous words to say around muppets .
Anyway, we still need a number 6 in our squad. Hopefully we can move on to target likes Carvalho, Strootman or Ruben loftus cheeks. Herrera, Powell(if impressed in pre season) and to a leser extent extent Fellaini and cleverly should be our number 8 next season.

No he didn't. He says he/the club prefer signing young players to experienced players.

Would Vidal even count as an experienced player to him, considering he's in a position where players don't tend to peak until they're 29-31? Probably not.

I think the key thing for LvG is whether the player is young enough to adopt his methods.

Ogden quoted LvG saying we were only interested in young players, and not experienced players. Then he went on to say that we were interested in Vermaelen but not Vidal. That didn't make much sense.

Andy Mitten said that the club are going to keep everything close to their chest. He was obviously briefed on that. He said it a good few times.

I am not saying we are signing Vidal or trying to, but if we were, there is absolutely no way the club are going to brief idiots like Ogden about it.

The Liverpool rumours are getting stronger. I presume that's pure shite. If we could have got him and he went there, there would be a meltdown of epic proportions.

I can't believe for a minute that we will decline experienced stars like Vidal, but would be willing to make an exception for Vermaelen.

I must say, that for some reason I reckon we will go after Pogba before Vidal. I think his profile (on and off the field) is the type of big signing we would want to make, and I reckon that given his age, if we could get him on a 6 year deal - the club would be more comfortable investing big money in him.

There were fairly credible reports that we had enquired and had gotten as far as being given an actual price, as opposed to the anything between 30m and 60m that we have been reading from speculators about Vidal. I think the figure was £60m, and part of me believes that Super Ed is almost desperate to pay that kind of fee for somebody to make a statement that we are Billy big bollocks who should be taken seriously in the mercado. The reports from Taylor earlier were that we were thinking about the price, and were yet to know if the next manager wanted to pursue it.

I think Pogba could be worth a punt at the bookies while the speculation is low.

Just a case of shit tabloid hacks copying shit tabloid hacks.

Corriere dello Sport reporting today that Conte is about to replace Blanc at PSG.....If that happens then Vidal and Pogba will almost certainly end up at Paris regardless of FFP

Says who? Not every player wants to play in the French equivalent of the Scottish Premiership.

Unless it's Gazetta dello Sport, it's not even worth bothering as serious. Antonio Conte is tipped for the job with Italy and that's a hell lot bigger than being the manager at PSG.

Was wondering about the LVG comments about not buying established superstars, as it turned out, it was a reply to a specific question about whether the philosophy of continuing with youth will still be there. What really is the point of asking a question like that to LVG? Did the reporter expect anything else?

I will get shot down my muppets everywhere now but I would honestly rather us spend £20-£25 million on two younger midfield prospects (so £50 mill on two very good players) than spunk a tonne of money on Vidal. But that's just me.

Well PSG got Verratti on the cheap, Juve got Vidal on the cheap and many other quality midfielders have moved for low fees in recent years. But the fact that these players have switched clubs while we needed to strengthen in the midfield position makes me doubt the ability of our scouts to find out talents like these who will be available on the cheap. We need a sure thing at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted if we signed him. But I'd be even more excited by 2 midfielders in their early 20s who can obviously play.

Has Vidal got an attitude/ego? Or is he down to earth?

Who are the two very good young players available for ₤25 million.

Haha. Excellent muppetry.

I would party like 1999, but that's not going to happen.

We've already signed two midfielders for around £25m in the past 12 months. True, one of them is a useless gangly hairball.

Herrera will be majestic, and I'd suggest Strootman in January would be the other £25m one. But Vidal would take us to the next level.
