Arturo Vidal

Great irony of Redcafe mourning loss of Vidal more than Juve supporters.

We really do deserve an uber midfield and something tells me Louie shall be patient also on that guy to the end.

I'm pretty convinced now that Juventus had concerns over his knee as well and were trying to flog him.
They didn't hide it all too well.

Week 1: "He's perfectly healthy, only not training just because. We will reject all Man Utd offfers."
Week 2: "He's really fine, we're rejecting all offers, even ones of 50m...."
Week 3: "Serious lads, good to go, we wouldn't accept even 45m..."
Week 4: "So fit you wouldn't know how fit, not leaving even for 40m...."
Week 5: "What a healthy beast, here for the long haul, not eve for 35m would we sell him...."

At United of Juve, i hope he makes full recovery. This guy is the best at what he does and it's a shame if injuries ruin his carrier.

It's pretty clear because the noise about this kept coming from Italy. They were hoping we'd pay top dollar and only find out he was crocked later. This is after they already chumped us on Pogba and we gave them Evra.

I had an awful feeling that we'd see a Vidal thread reporting a knee injury not long after the deadline.

Hope for him it's just a twinge as per Sport Witness but unfortunately a dodgy knee isn't going to heal with rushed surgery / recovery.

Further evidence that business is being done properly despite what some hysterical maniacs in here might suggest. If there was a "panic buy" waiting to happen it was this - taking a punt on a top player, badly needed, wanting to come, but possibly seriously injured. Lets hope he's not and that we might see him in a United shirt at some point.

Makes them quite hateable IMO.

So looks like we had good reason for bidding well below Juve's asking price.

This should knock a few million off his price tag. If he recovers well wouldn't mind us putting in a 25m bid in Jan.

A wise man once said "when an Italian says it's pasta, I check under the sauce to make sure."

Edwudwudwud heard "when an Italian says it's passed (an injury), I check the source to make sure."

Reading the first page of this and realising that we could have signed this guy back in 2011 for less than what we paid for Ashley Young - Half the price really. Fergy and his fecking love for wingers!! Sad thing is, we didn't even need Young that much then either.

Very annoying in hindsight.

If Vidal's knee is fecked, why would we wanna take a look at Strootman who's had a worse injury ? Then again Falcao only recently came back from the same horrible injury so in the end each situation is different. Maybe for a CM, LVG wants his player to be as fit as he can possibly be.

The difference right there is Strootman hasnt rushed back after surgery. Hes taking the proper amount of time out. Falcao did the very same. Vidal took three weeks off after surgery and was back training etc. This was after his surgeon had even said he felt he shouldnt take part in the world cup and should rest up for at least 3 months.

That aspect of our scouting seemed to get worse, if not practically disappear, as Fergie reached the end. After Vidic and Evra, I struggle to think of an overseas player brought in relatively cheap who proved to be top class. Hernandez would be the closest but ultimately it turned out to be just one outstanding debut season and you wouldn't put him anywhere near the level of Vidal, Vidic or Evra.

Yes there is a big difference but also Vidal didn't tear his ligaments so it could explain why he thought he was ready. After all a doctor gives you an estimate of healing time but the rest is up to you. The World Cup definitely rushed Vidal, I suppose we'll know in the coming months if this knee injury and its aggravation are serious or not.

True but even with it being only the Miniscus its still a tricky injury afterwards from what Ive read, in reality he should have listened to his Surgeon who at first said he will be ready for the WC and then quickly backtracked saying he felt he should rest for approx 3 months. Will be very interesting to see what happens next for him. Foolish of em IMHO to play on it so soon afterwards.

Dodged a bullet if his knee is bad, and hey we can get Strootman in January....oh...hold on

I fecking despise Juventus. Engineered a move for Pogba though Raiola, took Evra for a pittance and tried to shove a crock in our faces. Just feck right off. Hope they get relegated again.

Engineered a move? Pogba wanted to leave after stupidly not being picked by Ferguson. Do you remember that home defeat against the worst team in the league with a midfield of Park and Rafael.

Took Evra for a pittance? We sold him at that price. It's up to United to negotiate proper deals.

Tried to shove a crock in our faces? Who said? They said all along they weren't selling. When a story, which now appears to be fake, arises then they were trying to sell him. He just tweeted a few minutes ago that his knee is perfect.

I would be inclined to agree with you, but with the agent he has, he wouldn't be here for 10 years.

I've heard lots of people say this but I don't really understand the logic. He left us due to a lack of gametime which was completely understandable. His decision to leave has been vindicated and then some. He has remained at Juve for two years and counting which is something considering the Serie A isn't a very attractive league to play in these days and he is arguably the most sought after young player in the world.

Whether a player moves or not is more down to the themselves rather than the agent. Sure other Raiola clients like Ibrahimovic and Balotelli have moved clubs on a regular basis but chances are that would have been the case no matter who their agent was. Jorge Mendes is known as a bit of a "super agent" and seems to be constantly involved in deals yet he is the agent of Ronaldo who has only played for 2 clubs over the last 10 years and every club in the world would love him. At the end of the day footballers aren't kids and their agent isn't their parent. A player will only move if they feel it's best for them to do so. If they are happy at a club then their agent suggesting that they move won't mean that they will suddenly jump ship.

lol all the Pogba coming home things.

60m for a player we had and let go for 300k compo /facepalm

So you would rather if we just stood by and watched him join one of our rivals and go on to become one of the best midfielders in the world? /facepalm

We made a big mistake not giving him more chances when he was here (as others have pointed out we didn't let him go) but we would just compound that error if we didn't try to resign him.

Denied.

1. Pogba was patently unsettled by his agent. Yes he was aggravated by lack of playing time, but Raiola's stance and Juventus tapping Paul up didn't help him in that regard. Fergie knew as much way before Pogba and Juventus announced the Bosman transfer :

'Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we're aware,' Ferguson told the club’s in-house TV station MUTV.

'It's a bit disappointing because I don’t think he should us any respect at all.

'To be honest, if they carry on that way, I'm quite happy that he's away from me anyway.'

Or was Fergie lying ?

2. United wouldn't have let an experienced player go for dirt cheap having tied him to a 1 year deal previously unless the player himself kicked up a fuss behind the scenes on the back of Juventus promising him a starting role (that United couldn't) or there were promises of a kickback from the deal.

3. Tutto and Gazetta were clearly being briefed by Juventus throughout the summer while the English journos were largely silent - a clear move to drum up interest in the player through the media. Infact they were being briefed by Juventus over a knocked down price even when English sources confirmed that United were reluctant to buy Vidal due to concerns over his health.

No I agree, he is one of the best midfielders in the world and I would love him.

It's just sad when I think of the situation as I mentioned before.

I'd say no just so they can get fecked.

On the other hand, we could include him in a part deal for Pogba, surely Mata worth a pretty penny?

Mata + 20m/25m = Pogba?

It appears we've dodged a bullet. The club haven't forgotten the situation we went through with Hargreaves and were clearly looking to avoid that happening again so I'm pleased we've seen sense.

Seems it is true that we asked the Chile NT doctors for information about his knee, and we were obviously sceptical from there. Not to forget Sampaoli himself said: “The problem in Vidal’s transfer from Juventus to Manchester United is the doubt that Van Gaal has with respect to the improvement of Arturo’s knee.”
I think we played this one correctly. It's a shame with him and Gündoğan being injured means we have potentially missed out on two of the best midfielders in the world atm.
