Some of the clutching at straws, that has gone on in this thread, is just laughable. Seriously, some of you need to get a girlfriend/boyfriend/life and stop believing everything you read on twitter/internet/papers.
265 pages based on what - a few 'loose' quotes from him and some random papers around the world.
And we laugh at RAWK!

Did they? From memory a few journos said they'd be surprised if anything happened, but I didn't get the impression they'd gotten a comment from United. Perhaps I'm wrong.

They didnt repeatedly shut that one down - and it wasnt really a brief either. This time they are.

Apologies, they weren't necessarily briefed but they hadn't a clue. There was nothing until a few stories broke in Spain. See Ogden for example:

Take Vidal's situation, my guess is that there has been contact between us and Juve. With the stories dragging on and on we would've been questioned by English media on this, so our stance is 'nope, we've not contacted them'. Fact is, Vidal himself confirmed our interest and the 'Manchester United option'.

Feel free to leave if it annoys you that much. If something particularly annoys me, I tend to stay away from it but that's just me.

We laugh at RAWK for different reasons.

Vidal referenced the rumours about our interest - very different take on things. Id be inclined to take Utd at face value on this one.

Ah, my favourite kind of post. The depth of irony here.

As you say, its all opinions, but i think you'll be disappointed. Utd are continually denying it so i think we have to move on from this one unfortunately.
Are we? Have United gone on the record anywhere to deny any interest in Vidal? I don't think I've heard these quotes at all.

I really hope this happens but just playing Devils advocate it wouldn't be the 1st time we have been name dropped for some ulterior motive.

He just signed a new contract last year October, and considering Juve's finances, I don't see them offering him a new one just yet.

Vidal himself said we are enquiring, the interest is genuine. Whether we'll pull it off is another thing though, let's hope so. Woody seems to be quite confident so hopefully this will reflect in pulling off these type of signings.

See my post above

That doesnt mean he knows of definite interest - he could still be referencing the rumour of the Utd option.

None of us know his position on this but we do know Utd are telling the hacks who cover Utd that we are not in for the player. They are either lying consistently or being very clear that there is no interest. Why would they lie consistently? I get it once or twice and keeping press in the dark but its been consistently denied so id be surprised if the situation changed.

Exactly. I don't know why some people are completely ignoring him confirming our interest. He also said he will resolve his future when he gets back to Italy. That should be next week. So I will wait until then before leaving this one behind.

Wow, that's an incredibly condescending post.

We rarely go on record to deny things - we done it with Gaitan. Generally, its placed in articles as "the clubs position is...".

I get why people want this guy but i think there are many looking for things that are not there - i cant see why Utd would continually deny it to the hacks who cover the club day-in-day-out all year. It would do more harm than good longer term.

They have when questioned by Ogden, Ladyman, McDonnell etc.
Can you link to a source? Not refuting you, but I have a tendency to not believe things people say on forums until I see what it is that is making them say that. :p I'm sure you understand, you're a forum goer too. xD

I feel like the momentum has been lost from this thread. We need something from our friends at Chilevision to reignite in muppet flame within.

Because we will end up looking stupid like we did with Fabregas last year? Why admit anything until its a done deal anyway? It just get's peoples hopes up.

Our denials are off the record.

Juve's CEO said they don't want to sell but in the end it's up to the player and they HOPE he will stay.

Vidal confirmed our interest in 2 separate interviews saying his agent deals with that. He just signed a new contract in October last year so it's about that.

We've been determined to keep the press in the dark on our dealings. If we wanted them to know then they would've known about Herrera. Also, clubs lying about interest in a player or negotiating to sell/buy a player is so common. It's done all the time. Nothing new there.

Arthur Whalley, banned forever in a matchfixing scandal. :p

One thought would be that we may be in a place where we have to deny such things to avoid openly declaring that we are tapping up a player. So far no bid has been accepted that we are aware of, and this means we are unable to talk to the player, which means that if we have not submitted a bid but are indeed talking to the player and/or his agent then we have to deny being interested up until the point that we have a bid accepted.

Usually I criticize the post not the poster but you sir, seem like a bit of a dick.

Those articles where they mention that are on this thread over the past week or 2. They also talk about it on their own twitter feed. I understand your scepticism.

Seems that it's usually placed in articles as "the club's position is BELIEVED to be....", which pretty much allows the journos to say whatever they want.

People aren't putting a lot of stake in unquoted and unconfirmed reports from the club, because Vidal himself has confirmed that we are interested. Whether or not we still are, is another matter, and the denials may be our way of backing off. If we have backed off, then it's almost certainly due to concerns over his knee, especially after it was reported that we had contacted Chilean doctors about it. But we aren't going to come out and say, "Well, his knee is fecked up, so we don't want him."

Theyre not off the record though - each of these journos have subseuquently wrote about it. Simon Jones, David McDonnell etc. Ogden and Ladyman are just back from holiday so id be interested to see what they go to print with this weekend.

i agree. They are taking a different approach to the transfers this season. if it goes trhough it goes through, if not they will say we were never interested. Its all about keeping face and maintaining a strong personality

There is a difference between not commenting and blatantly denying it when questioned. We created our own problem with Fabregas last year.

Comes down to your own perception of that comment - i think he's talking about rumoured interest.
