Arsenal - 2024/25

Anyone see that pen awarded for Brighton? It doesn’t take much for a gooner to lose its rag, but that’s outrageous. Has anyone ever seen a penalty awarded for an accidental clash of heads? If whoever the defender was meant it, then it’s violent conduct so why wasn’t he sent off as well then? This is going to take some explaining. They’ve got a point this time though. Literally. And it’s killed any hope they had.

Him and Martinelli were 2 of the players ill, that's why both were benched.

Havertz another but he wasn't even fit enough for the match day squad.

Didn't realise he was one of the ill ones, what was your take on Arteta taking off Nwaneri

Unsure why we got Merino. Who's a tidy player but we didn't really need him. What we needed was a striker. It will cost us. I said before Arteta is not proactive, he is reactive. Nwaneri is also clearly good enough to be starting, yet all those weeks when Odegaard was off he is wasted on the bench.

I also feel everyone, including me, under-estimated Liverpool. League's over IMO.

Just watches the highlights.

Difficult call to make in real time as you’d miss it thinking it was accidental. But the replay show the defender mis time his header and ended up hitting the attacker. I’d say it’s fair for a penalty as it wasn’t accidental and it wasn’t malicious. Just a bad judgment header which should be punished via free kick or penalty. That’s my take.

The stars are all aligned for Liverpool to win the titles. Lucky bastards! They choose the right season when City and Arsenal are both shit.

I think they've been kind of bleh all season.

Injuries to key players have not been helpful, but everyone suffers injuries so that’s not an excuse I suppose. They’ve definitely taken a step back from last season.

I’m looking at their attack of Saka, Martinelli, Trossard, Jesus, Havertz, Sterling and Nwaneri. That looks like a stale attack in desperate need of refreshing. At least 4 of those 7 are not good enough to be regulars for them. Sterling will be sent packing in the summer but they need to find a way to get rid at least 2 of Martinelli, Trossard and Jesus and find upgrades on them. Havertz is still somewhat useful as a rotational option.

Usually, it's accidental when two players are going to win a first time header. Joao Pedro has the ball in his control, he moved it in order to make a space for him. Saliba went to flick the ball, missed the ball, and accidentally headbutted Joao Pedro.

It's the same deal when a player moves the ball with his foot, before oposition players attempts a clearance, and it clatters him. So it is a penalty, and I don't get why so many Arsenal fans are angry about it.

Very late in the game, in stoppage time I think and they needed a goal but it didn't look like they were pressing the ball. Were lucky Brighton kicked the ball back to them, I thought they could have just passed it around in their half but they actually looked like like they wanted the 3 points more. And did they really get a yellow card for time wasting in the first half? Bizarre behavior from title contender today imo.

Rice took 53 seconds to take the last free kick. And they are chasing a win.

Started time wasting since minute 30. Absolute most yellow cards in the league for time wasting, 9.

That's shameful for a team that's supposed to be the heir to Pep's City. Even if they won the title somehow, they would be deserved winners of Clough's "bad champions" award.

Its defo something we need to get out our system, I'm glad to see a reporter actually questioned him on it. He said it's something we need to improve on, but surely it should be easy to stamp out as a manger.

I've thought about this a lot, and some of it I don't think is a deliberate act of time wasting, we tend to take our time at a lot of our set pieces and throw ins regardless of the score, I think it all stems from Arteta trying to minimise risk, so make sure your throw ins, corners etc find their target

Even last night chasing a goal we never looked hurried or desperate, and that frustrates your own fans never mind opposition..

Can’t believe the disingenuous comments in here. I like to see an Arsenal shafting as good as the next guy, but rivalries aside, that’s an outrageous decision. It’s always somebodies fault when there’s an accidental clash of heads. Nobody can say they’ve ever seen it happen before. If it happened to you lot we know you’d be raging, but maybe not as much considering where you are in table.

Yeah it's really frustrating, every throw-in, corner or free kick takes an age irrespective of the score. Like the rest of our play, we've become far too slow and methodical this season.

We've drawn 7 games this season, 5 of them when we were leading.

Brighton (1-1, Rice sent off)
City (2-2, Trossard sent off)
Liverpool (2-2)
Chelsea (1-1)
Brighton (1-1)

Surely that should tell the manager and players that sitting back on a 1 goal lead is always risky, and you should look to push on and try and get a 2 goal gap at the very least?

Outrageous? Definitely not. It was an unusual situation, but very obviously a penalty.

Arteta said he's never seen a penalty like that in football - which may be true - but doesn't mean it's not a penalty. If an attacker gets to the ball first on the ball, and the defender comes across thinking he's going to get there and clips him, it's given as a penalty and that was the same scenario just with their heads.

Not malicious but definitely contact and definitely a penalty.

I also think Arsenal are in too many tight games to have a chance for the title - as naturally some of them they aren't getting over the line and they are drawing too many games.

For me that's a penalty. He is late getting in there. It's weird, but still one. Don't know what the commentators were on about it being a possible red card, that would have been absolutely ridiculous.

We have way too many draws because our attacking play is very stale/slow/lethargic. I find myself getting irritated watching the slow ticking around of the ball. They need to watch a few Pool videos or ones from our games a year ago. At many times they are just at walking speed out there. We are also dropping points by not going for a second goal.

We are on top4 form....not league winners one. Don't know what's going on with Odegaard, it's getting worse. Glad Arteta did not start him.

Odegaard was ill, Arteta said he wasn't well enough to train but wanted to make himself available as he knew we were short on numbers.

Stop dropping points you horrible cnuts. Cheers.

Just saw they have Forest away next and could drop points. Wake up!

Get the gap down to 2 or 3 points and watch them get nervous even with their game in hand.

Imagine telling someone five years ago that those teams would both be in the top four of the Premier League in January.

My worry for us is that to go on 1 of the long winning runs, you generally need most of your main players fit and consistency in selection. It just feels like we've been stop start in terms of fitness, suspensions, and even illness over the last week or so.

We've not helped ourselves by not having more quality in the squad to cope with setbacks though, especially in the attacking areas. That's really on us.

Said it multiple times and I'll stick to it, I'm fairly sure Arsenal will eventually finish above Liverpool.

Arsenal started wasting time the minute they took the lead.

There were just four minutes of added time at the end of the first half. During that period, Taylor booked Nwaneri for wasting time over a corner - but still blew the whistle to end the half after four minutes. Makes no sense.

Time wasting is a modern scourge in this league.

I want to see if how they line up next week against United. Newcastle game has to be important but one would say FA cup should be taken seriously. Getting knocked out against this United side would be a bad result.

Arsenal Away to all the bottom five teams plus united, Liverpool and forest.

Liverpool away to brentford, Everton, Leicester and 7 of the current top 10 teams.

It could still get tough for Liverpool

I can't see us playing a full team. Especially with now Nwaneri injured too.

Yep, I'm convinced Liverpool will drop plenty of points. It just needs Arsenal to also go on some sort of run. The title is there for the taking, to be honest.

The problem is at it stands we have 3 fit forwards so that makes it kinda hard to rotate the 3 forwards we play with. Hopefully Havertz and Sterling are back so we can at least make an attacking sub.

The problem is there’s no guarantee Arsenal will beat all those bottom 5 teams. It seems more likely to me that they’ll drop points in at least 2 of them.
