Arsenal - 2024/25

It was the Cup Winners Cup, even Arsenal won that cup once, and we are shite in Europe.

Agree in general though, what SAF did in Scotland was remarkable. I don't think that would give you a free hit 6 years down the line at Utd these days though.

What I would say about Arteta is that he's made progress every season at Arsenal in terms of points totals, so there's always been some sort of progress. It's going to be nigh on impossible to do that this season of course with the start we've had, but bar a major collapse, I don't think that warrants ripping it up and starting again quite yet.

Needs to make more of an impact in the cup competitions though, so will be expecting him to take the Crystal Palace quarter final seriously, even if the league cup is seen as a lesser competition.
He also won the European Super Cup..

Which means he made Aberdeen more successful in Europe than Arsenal (still are too)

Still the last manager to beat Madrid in a European final btw.

The problem with modern day fans in general, is they think 'progress' is some linear thing, like there's some sort of plan which comes in phases with the 'eventual' final phase being winning all the major honours.

This is a fairy tale.

I know, it's a crazy fact. Think about Scottish football at that time, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd winning leagues, Dundee Utd getting to a European Cup semi final and a Uefa Cup final. Aberdeen winning the Cup Winners Cup. Absolutely bonkers times!

I'm not sure of your 2nd point is aimed at me, but I certainly don't think progress is linear, although it has been up to now. I appreciate the eventual final phase of winning the major honours is difficult, but at the same time, do you abandon what you've been working towards at the very first time that progress has stalled. I'd say that's a problem with modern fans in general as well.

Don't need to tell me that bud, hence my description of our European record as shite in my post you quoted.

The difference is Arteta isn’t and never will be anywhere near the same level of Sir Alex so the pay off won’t be remotely the same. Also what Sir Alex achieved at Aberdeen was much bigger than anything Arteta has ever done, so there was far more reason to keep faith in him.
Tbf, if past achievements are all the justification needed to keep faith with a coach then we would've persisted with LvG, or Mourinho.

There's nothing wrong with saying SAF wouln't have gotten 6 years at the current Utd, it also doesn't mean that Arteta gonna succeed if he's afforded the same leeway. Wenger found out the hard way when his crops of youngsters failed to grow together one after another, there are always inconsistencies, injuries, and pastures new.

is the arsenal collapse starting a bit earlier this year than normal?
Lots of games we should win until Brighton-Spurs in January while Liverpool has to play City (at home), Newcastle, Everton and Spurs away. The table should balance itself by then.
Third place prediction is still well on, let's just win the Kids Cup, try to go one step further in the CL and work hard to get 3 very good attacking players (ST, RW, LW).
Next year is our year™
