Arsenal - 2024/25

Remember last season when some Arsenal fans said they were the best team in Europe.

That's Arsenal fans to a tee. Never known a fanbase like it.

They always seem to have the best defender, best left back, best midfielder, best winger and maybe even best player in the league according to them yet win nothing.

Pretty boys tried to get the job done twice and went limp only for the league to move on to some big bald bastard.

The only way to win the league in modern times is to buy yourself the League. There are just a few exceptions to this rule: Klopp's luck and Leicester's freak run.

They’ve let in the same amount of goals as United and are on the same amount of points as Emery Villa team.

Arteta probably needs a cup win this season to keep the pressure off.
If we can win tomorrow we are just 4 points behind them after 10 games of us being a shambles and sacking our manager.

Injuries aren't helping but morale is probably pretty low, maybe because they put absolutely everything into challenging in the last two seasons, including some ridiculous levels of consistency and yet still lost the title twice.

They don’t even play particularly good football. They’ve regressed quite a bit since last season.

And if Chelsea win, Chelsea will be 2 points ahead. Even a draw would see Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.

Like hitting 90 points?

Even those Arsenal fans should know they flatter to deceive. Last two European campaigns. Last season lucky to get past Porto and taken out by average Bayern Munich. Season before knocked out by Sporting CP.

Mid to high 80s is a good points total but last season I think they won just about every game in their run in aside from a game against Villa. Their form was excellent, probably took absolutely everything to stay at that level ...and they still lost the league. It wouldn't surprise me if they're having a few doubts.

Arsenal are still the nothing club they were during the last few years of Wengers reign. Only difference is that finish higher than 4th. Capable of great football but winning feck all.

Played them ‘moneybags ‘ off the park, away fans were the quietest I’ve seen in 16 years too..
You're embarrassing  I'm surprised you're showing your face here now

Remember earlier in the season when you were criticising us for playing cowardly, negative football away at City when we had 10 men?

36% possession at home despite having 11 men all game. Enjoy mid table again

Someone’s taken defeat well

Wake the feck up ffs. Lost two titles they should have won and now letting Liverpool with a new manager run away with it. Need City to beat that lot at Anfield now.

Arteta will be gone by Christmas at this rate. Ten Hag available too, think they might jump

Arsenal are developing and ready to win things in a similar way to us under Ole...except Ole actually went deep into competitions other than the league.

Fancy Chelsea to take something off of them next week too. Losing Odegaard has hurt them a lot.

That Bayern game was a reality check imo, they are not close to competing for the CL.

It certainly was and at the time I was having debate with an Arsenal fan on here before that game that Arsenal should not be such short odds to win the champions league.

All this talk from our supporters using arteta as an example as to why we should be patient with eth....

Thought he’d have played Zinchenko LB and Timber to RB. At least four defenders then.
We did. After an hour. Not sure why that took so long. Not only did we play with two DMs (Rice and Merino) but we had a DM at RB (Partey) and an inverted LB whose natural inclination is to drift into the DM position (Timber). Our entire defence and central were getting in each other’s way whenever we tried to progress up the field.

We've been shite since then but your original post still exaggerated what he actually said.

"I don’t want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year [that we can win the title]. I think we’ve been close the last two years and we’re getting closer but this hopefully will be the year" is not giving it large and if it is then the definition of giving it large has definitely changed

Having said that, Zinchenko wasn’t great when he came on. And Lewis-Skelley is a kid.

Merino also very rarely went down the outside of Martinelli as he has done to great effect in prior performances. We seem to have sacrificed his forward runs by playing him deeper to accommodate Trossard playing the furthest forward - which he did so very poorly. This is doubly surprising as Havertz has just started to look like a decent target man. But we seemed to drop him deeper to replicate some of what Odegaard usually offers.

I think we need make far fewer changes to our system and return to what has been working for the last couple seasons. Nwaneri is the closest thing to a like for like swap for Odegaard. I don’t care if he’s less experienced than Trossard.

This is what I've found noticeable today. Forget the personnel that's missing, obviously a team would miss someone as good as Odegaard in terms of creativity.

What I was concerned with today was just the lack of movement from everyone. Creative teams have good rotations but also most importantly have runners, full backs over lapping, full backs under lapping, the 2 number 8's doing likewise, but the formation is just all to static just now.

We shuffle the ball to the wide players expecting them to provide the creativity but we don't get runners round them to help them out so they become much easier to defend against. At least when White and Calafiori play they to provide those runs, Timber when he plays left and Partey at right back don't.

We alare defo in a rut just now reminiscent of the West Ham, Fulham games post Xmas last season. Hopefully we come out the other end better like we did last season.

Yep. Saka was triple-marked at times. If there’s that much attention on him, there must be gaps elsewhere for us to exploit, but as you say, there was precious little movement.

I actually think this is worse than our rut last season. Those were bad results, but they were mostly the result of sloppy finishing and individual mistakes at the back. Whereas we are actually playing poorly right now.

Many don't call it but they have wasted a lot of money on average players and wrong profile. Also, I don't believe they have any injury crisis. If they have actual injury crisis then they would sitting outside top 4 on a regular basis.

They’ve easily had the toughest set of fixtures so far so I don’t think they are as far off the pace as the table suggests.

Having said that, if the supporters are starting to get restless then an implosion wouldn’t surprise me.

Hate them as much as anyone else and it's all fun to jump in on the bandwagon but I think, ultimately, it'll be them and Liverpool challenging for the league. This is a minor blip, imo.
