Arsenal - 2024/25

Should be embarrassed parking the bus against Stoke at home! It is interesting that Man Utd actually had a decent second half, but their fans feel it necessary to have a go at Arsenal instead of talking about the positives like Heaven.

We really let a couple players go here....Heaven and Chido(I think he will be decent) we should have given Heaven a chance at some point. We had enough FB injuries over the last two years.

We are miserable in attack. Nothing worked for Nwaneri today, and Odegaard doesn't look to be pulling the strings like the last two seasons.
Not really, this is the Arsenal thread mate.

Ayden Heaven performanced thread is for his performances...

Oh we're shite, absolute shite.

Arsenal on the other hand, your players and fans act like you're going to go back to back league titles or something. If you don't win the champions league this season it's gonna be 0 trophies since Covid....

Ah, the old sweeping generalisation of an entire fanbase again.

Guess what, there's many Arsenal fans that don't think we are very good as well. There's many that are delusional and think we are world beaters. And there's lots in-between that think we are a good team with some pretty obvious flaws, especially when you lose players in the area of the pitch most think we are already weakest.

Closer to 10th place Fulham than Liverpool (albeit Liverpool having played a game more). Guess I was right they won't come within 10 points of Liverpool until after the trophy is won. Really struggling for goals this season in tight games and set pieces have dried up. Good team and have the potential to eventually win the league with a couple of additions but they can't keep going with no 9. Big transfer window ahead that will make or break them I feel.

Sorry mate. I've spoken to you before on here, you're a realistic Arsenal fan (one of the fair few).

You must admit though you're in the minority in your fanbase. Let's be real.

While their set pieces were brilliant I’m assuming opposition coaches have got better at contending with them. Plus Saka’s delivery is missing. They’ve always seemed a bit one dimensional which is further apparent when the set pieces stop working

Weird team. Yes they lack a striker but they seem to only play well in bursts a lot of the time, a bit like Sir Alex's final United side only without the winning mentality or trophies.

A lot of players throwing themselves to the ground all the time make them really unlikable. Rice shushing the crowd over an equaliser at OT when they needed to go and get the win

You are very good though. Not world beaters but still a very good side. I find the feast or famine mentality if football fans crazy. Clearly the 2nd best side in one of Europes strongest leagues, a little unlucky that when the best side previously fell off a level, a team of about your level stepped up and not you. I still feel if you win a major trophy in the next couple of years you'll kick on. But winning one might prove tough now Liverpool and have refound their grove and if City don't get punished, will refind theirs too.

This felt like the season but you just can't let the Dippers get ahead and build up steam. Whether people like it or not, they're the best in the world at riding momentum thanks to Anfield.

that’s not clear yet

I think even if they came 3rd, coming 2nd the last two seasons they'd still have an argument to be 2nd. I mean its clearly not current City and Chelsea are way too inconsistent. Even though it kills me to say it, if Forest finished above them, I don't think anyone would call them better than Arsenal.

55 points with 10 games to go. Not sure Arsenal will get 25 out of 30 so could finish season with less than 80 points. Unless they go far in Champions League think it'll feel like a bit of a backwards season. Obviously Saka and then Jesus, Havertz and Martinelli getting injured played a big part but that's less of an excuse and more of a reason for criticism of Arteta and the board for not getting a striker/attacking player in last 2 windows.

I've probably bit too much as well mate, a bit frustrated tonight.

If you go by online fanbases, we certainly are up there with the most mental. I tend to not judge support from their online views mind you, because nearly everyone is a crack pot online!

Find myself combating this more and more, even within our own fanbase. Your either first or your shite, nothing in-between, no allowances for context of how the season has panned out.

Don't get me wrong, we certainly aren't without fault. Think perhaps the club looked at the second half of last season's form of both the team and individual players like Havertz and probably went into the summer and this season...perhaps arrogance is too strong a word but complacent that we didn't need to add much to the squad / attack, but that's been proven wrong.

Probably not took dissimilar a story to.yourselves actually, and like yourselves if nothing else I'm sure the disappointment performances this season will give them a bit of a wake up call. I'm expecting a very active summer this time round.

We definitely need that player upfront. We won't get too far without it. I feel also our style needs to change. We are much slower in the build up then we used to be, and other PL teams have adapted to this stuff a fair bit. Man Utd didn't do anything the first half but in truth looked quite comfortable in defense. They are forcing us to break through and we are frustratingly slow pushing the ball around.

Mentally it must be a big blow going backwards this season. There was a period there for about 20 games or so in the run in last season, I think Arsenal won nearly them all bar that damaging home defeat vs Villa and you guys looked unbeatable.

I really feel we've seen peak Arsenal under Arteta.

Yeah, when teams pack the defence, denying space, you need quick play and you need individual quality in the attacking areas. At times we lack one, if not both of these. A proper box presence, someone capable of a bit of magic, wide players with pace that can beat their full backs, players that can arrive late and shoot from cutbacks and from distance. All things that we could improve upon.

I'm obviously biased, but I disagree. I think with better quality attackers, we could get at least back to previous levels.

If you guys bought a striker and a LW, then it's definitely possible. My feeling is that Arteta has taken you as far as he can, and like that period I referenced, any other team but City and you've done enough to win the league.

You obviously need Saka back, but it looks from the outside you need not just a couple quality players up front, but a fresh approach.

On the flip side, despite his wobbly start at Arsenal Arteta has one of the best records of all time for the first 200 EPL games, better than Wenger: https://theanalyst.com/eu/2025/03/mikel-arteta-200-premier-league-games-arsenal-man-utd

Arsenal did have some bad luck this season with the red cards and injuries. I can't stand Arteta, but unfortunately he seems to be a very good manager.

They should watch Pool play. Klopp never allowed the opponent continously so much time...much more direct passes...find a direct lane and let your front men do the rest. Of course having that front man helps as well. It's all too predictable out there. When our opponent sits back like this, we really struggle.

I think we are going to struggle a bit as is regardless who we get upfront.

That's been obvious for some time. Just look at Arsenal in 5 years before Arteta came in: would finish in top 4 and win a cup, then in last few seasons under Wenger couldn't even finish in top 4. Same under Emery. They were average side that was capable of winning cups every few seasons (something like United last few seasons under ten Hag). Then in these 5 years under Arteta from that average side they've become 2nd best in league. Obviously not won anything in that period but it's completely different team still.

After last season I said it I back Arsenal to go again and beat City for title. Still can see them winning it next season if they get a striker, though it does feel like their all-round performances were better in 22/23 and 23/24 seasons.

He has to be smarter with the overload of players. Saka injury was not one of knock or a duel. Havertz as well. These are not impact injuries. Timber and Martinelli, Google shows last 2 injuries, muscle related. He played Saka in a dead rubber against some team from the caliber of Port Vale in one of the cups.

I read an article for Slot. When Liverpool were looking into potential candidates for a new coach, how he rotates and rest/recovers players also came into high consideration. No coincidence, Liverpool have been lucky with muscle injuries this year.

Lastly, there seems to be something wrong with their mentally, and I think that is what makes them unable to make that last step, from contenders into Champions. The year when they went head to head with City, they went to Etihad and played for a draw. They got it in the end, but I did not understood the jubilation of the result. For context, Arsenal were flying at that time, and City were hot and cold. Rodri said that after that game, they knew that they will catch them. Arsenal lost v Villa, and the rest is history.

They also had a meltdown playing 3-3 with Southampton home, allowing West Ham to get back into the game, and drawing v Liverpool, after having the lead. What Rice did today was so stupid in my opinion shushing the crowd, while being 1-1, 15 point behind the team they are chasing. It just shows that they have in fact given up on the title.

To be a champion, a lot of things have to come into place, and Arsenal seems to be missing different pieces each year.
