Arsenal - 2024/25

One injury to Odegaard and they lose all the creativity apparently. Imagine one injury to saliba and they will look vulnerable defensively as well. And If any further injuries they are back to arteta's arsenal that were bottling 4th place.
This is a melt opinion. If we had no Saliba we could do a back 4 of White, Gabriel, Timber, Calafiori. Still have Tomiyasu, Zinchenko, Kiwior, Tierney on the bench

Everyone always like to think there is some kind of trigger that will make Arsenal revert back to the 8th place days.

Yeah good luck hoping Saliba can be replaced easily. I would argue he is your most important player. But you may chose to disagree.

He is fit and available?

What is this? Fetish an injury to another teams players and speculate how they will do without him?

Ill also have you know, Arteta is the brain trust behind our defensive strength. Arteta can orgnaize a defence like few others can.

No point responding to him.

Respectively I disagree.

As soon as that season he started playing Kiwior instead of Holding we looked much better, starting with beating Newcastle away. Since then he's added Califiori and Timber who can both play central defence, not to mention White who SHOULD have played in central defence instead of Holding. You'll see a lot of the times Arteta is reactive, not proactive which is what he should be.

Ofcourse Saliba is crucial but we have done a lot of business to, while not replace him, but mitigate his loss. Unfortunately we have no such replacement for Odegaard. Its the one area of the pitch that still needs working on which is why I didn't understand him letting Vieira leave.

Indeed. It wasn't the loss of Saliba itself that was the problem, it's the quality of the replacement that we had at the time.

We also lost Tomiyasu at the same time which meant we couldn't move White infield, and Partey was injured as well and we didn't have Rice at the time so lost a.lot of protection in front of the defence.

I said many times before, and never want to pick on a player, but you can only see how Haaland bullied Holding and how he clumsily gave away the penalty at Anfield to see he wasn't the required quality. Don't think he had had a Premier League minute at Palace yet?

Also they did an analysis of our game at Anfield that year. That usually all our defenders push up and press aggressively around the midway line when ie we played Liverpool at the Emirates, to deny them space. But here at Anfield because Holding had no pace every defender stayed back and the midfield not used to it never bridged the gap hence the massive gaps they had.

When he started playing Kiwior, who despite not a patch on Saliba, it allowed us to play something close to how we usually play. Kiwior despite his limitations wasn't a bad squad player at all and was part of a defence last season which conceded the least amount of goals all season despite him not being a left back.

We had no Timber, no Califiori at the time. We do now so while I admit Saliba is not replaceable, totally agree with posters here on that, but those two are not a bad option. Even at the worst we can move White to CB and one of them to fullback.

This is the new rival cope. That Saliba is the central tenant to our defensive strength and with Real Madrid reported interest (that will be 120m thank you Florentino). That if Saliba were to leave we would revert back to the shambles of Luiz-Mustafi partnership.

Im telling you know, Arteta is a defensive weapon, and his tactics and coaching are the reason why we are so strong defensively.

Sickener for them to concede at the end.

But in big picture terms, a point away to City when you've been down to 10 men for half the game is a good result.

And if Rodri is out injured for an extended period too, they come out of this game with better title chances than when they went in.

Obviously wanted the 3 points but I would’ve happily taken a draw before the match. Michael Oliver destroyed that game

11 points from those 5 opening fixtures is decent going, can't really be too upset

That was uggggly, but I will take the draw. It was looking like a better than average Man City - Arsenal game until Oliver decided to....well be himself. That was a tough schedule to start the season with, so we should not be too disappointed with what we have so far.

Just came from the game.

Gutted we couldn't hold on but 7/9 from Villa, Spurs and City away is excellent. Last 12 away games 10 wins and no defeats is very good.

Also City fans are so plastic it's unreal. Everything about the whole place is plastic and soulless. I had to cancel plans but then last minute managed to attend though in the City end. Entire time fans around me spent face timing on their phones. Its such a pathetic ground. The "chants" at the start were also manufactured on loud speakers.

That can't be true about the chanting being piped in on the speakers?

It is. The start of the game before kick off it was all speakers. As it was dying down for 2 seconds people made a tame attempt at their club song and nothing after.

The only time you'd get a response is when youd say shitte club no history

 that is embarrassing if true

They need to get some of those flags you sweep around at the Emirates. That's the sign of a real club.

11 v11 Arsenal were the better team. Defensively they were brilliant again. They such a top notch team defensively.

Trossard was an idiot for kicking the ball away, but as with the Brighton game, if an opponent doesn’t get punished for the same thing in the same game, then you have to say Arsenal were really hard done by again.

Its bad enough when decisions are wildly inconsistent from game to game, but what is utterly inexcusable is not enforcing the same rule to the same extent in the same game.

As much as we're unhappy to not get absolutely slaughtered after going down to 10 men, I think we'll have to console ourselves with that point which could have so easily been three.

I, and everyone who knows this Arsenal team, knew exactly what we were going to get as soon as we went down to 10 men. For better or for worse, that's the closest to the single best way to play against City if defending a lead in this situation.

Can't wait for these cnuts to be relegated into the Conference.

Just come across to our side, WP, you know you want to. The disillusionment with football because of your club will disappear, I promise. And you get to be the most hated club in the land again!

Arsenal forever choking. Not even an exciting season to talk about.

Happy with the latest results, not so much with the performances.
Our setpiece threat is excellent, but I worry when It's all we can do. Our open play threat needs to improve, fast.
Anyways, next batch of games should be easier, and more fun to watch.

Yes, our midfield is looking really poor at the moment in particular. Lots of uncertainty, and overall poor touches and lack of support. Glad we are finally getting over a bit of this tough schedule because we need to get it going at some point soon.

Not sure of this has been posted

I'm always convinced stuff like this has to be fake. I see those Goldbridge clips do something similar a lot. Or at the very least they're playing up to the camera and don't care that much. No one can take football that seriously and be healthy.

This was so clear on the broadcast. The place was DEAD. Laughable fans. 1-2 down against your title rivals as they are down to 10 men, all you can hear are Arsenal fans.

We need a vomit emoji on the caf.
