Arne Slot | Liverpool manager (Posture and/or Sack Watch)

You think cup upsets don't happen here? Top flight teams are knocked out by actual amateurs on a yearly basis.
Those 'actual amateurs' have budgets and facilities and salaries that equal and sometimes top the Eerste Divisie teams. So really a lot like League One and Two in England.

But either way the point stands. Lower-league clubs manage cup surprises in the Netherlands as well. The FA Cup isn't quite as unique as people from England seem to think.

Right, but I was responding to the poster saying it was our best chance of a quad in ages. It wasn’t. 2022 we were two games away from it. This season there is a lot of football still to be played.
True enough. These quadruple predictions (even if mostly meant as a jinx) almost always ignores the amount of things that have to go your way to win it all. Even a great team needs a good slice of luck as well.

Out of curiosity, did your forums frequently have "Utd on for a quadruple" threads?

I don't know if it's just me forgetting stuff, or because it's now the age of social media and crazy sensationalism, but I feel like this term gets thrown about a lot more these days.

It's been quite a few years of City or Liverpool being nailed on favourites for the quadruple from about October/November onwards.
i don’t remember it coming up much in the 2000’s. I have a friend who supports United and joked about it during 08/09, feeling confident following 07/08.

Social media has changed what being a football fan is like. I feel like AFTV started the extremism.

And unlike in England most Dutch clubs usually field at least somewhat strong teams.

On whether he had any 'regrets' about his team selection...

No, because you never know what will happen if we would have played with our starters over here. I think we've seen during this season, we've seen a few times already, that it's a game plan, a playing style, which is difficult for our starters, but also for the ones that played today. So, constantly long balls, second balls, long balls, second balls. It's difficult for every team. We had it with [Manchester] United at home for example as well. They had a similar playing style going to a very low block [then] kick every ball long, and then we played with our starters.

What a miserable sore loser ! Beware long balls Everton is coming for you !

I was going to post this. For the absolute long ball merchants they are I find this a bit rich!

I find this particularly bizarre, because whenever I watch Liverpool in the league, their primary tactic seems to be ‘punt it long to Salah’. Klopp was like this, too.

Didn't Klopp give this exact "Yeah but Man Utd played long ball" interview when he lost a completely unrelated game as well at some point?

Something in the water over there for sure.

Poor coaching to have seen the problem against United and not done anything to mitigate it against Plymouth

Yep a bit of a hypocrite when a big portion of Liverpool's goals come from a punt down the ground which Salah runs onto or hold up play... its just victim mentality.

I want to see him loose a few games, sounds like he can be rattled quite easily. I fecking hope so anyway!

He did, in a year where Pool were like #2 or #3 in the league for using long balls. They don't really care as they know their fanbase will lap it up.

Its not just the fan base.. the media will too. As long it comes out a Liverpool managers mouth, the media love it and lap it up without any fact checking.

His successor at Feyenoord's been sacked. Maybe he can come back? His days at Pool are numbered anyway after this defeat.

Weird timing after the derby win and right before the Milan game, no?

Very good CL campaign as well. Maybe you should be somewhere in between PSV and Utrecht in the league rather than 3 points off 3th but isn't it more likely that Slot was just overperforming with your current squad?

Sparta isn't a very remarkable derby. They're also extremely shite this season.

Losing to Ajax and PSV and getting clobbered by Lille were all bad, but more than that I think he also fell out with part of the board or somesuch. He was set to be sacked fter the Bayern game, but that became impossible after that weird result.

He did do well in the CL though, so sacking him just before this is a bit weird.

Why on earth is he going on about Man United after being knocked out by Plymouth?
Because he thinks your setup and strategy against us was the same as what Plymouth did, obviously.

And United are the only team he felt like referencing after a game against Plymouth? Properly weird
Apparently so, yeah? I don't know what to tell you  I can't even remember how you played us anymore.

There seems to be the idea by some Utd fans that you guys "live in his head rent-free" or whatever just because he mentions you in a press conference (same with Klopp during his tenure), but I'd like to think he has other things on his mind than the 13-placed PL team which he won't face anymore this season.

So you agree that it's really weird that he brought us up then?

Over a month since you played us, not playing us again until next season, and we're an absolute irrelevancy to you in terms of the competitions you're still in, and yet there is, randomly bringing us up.

Evidently not since he's randomly referencing and mischaracterising a match from over a month ago.

Especially when you've obviously played teams who played far more long balls far more recently.

Nottingham forest live rent free in his head. This is just a nice little bit of snide.

How is it random when the comment is related to the Plymouth game and he thinks Plymouth played similar like you did?

Salty!

Because, whether you want to accept it or not, it's absolutely random to bring up a team you played over a month ago when you're not going to play them again until next season.

As you said, he should have other things on his mind, and yet he's still ruminating on a draw from the beginning of the year.

Scoring easy points from our fanbase, getting a few rival fans riled up and/or annoyed (as proven in here), nothing much to see.

He can't very well admit that he underestimated the quality of the opponent and turned up with a half-baked squad fit for not much. Instead, he's chosen to throw in some distraction and who better to name drop than us.

That's his squad next season once the free agents leave
