As a matter of fact, Liverpool are the most effective team in the league at long passes. If anything, everyone else is struggling to cope with them, rather than the other way around (Statsbomb)

Because exactly that, it gives most Liverpool fans a good chuckle when he references Utd as a low-block, long-ball playing side?

I know why he did it. I'm just saying it's weird that he chose to do it given the relative standings of the two clubs this season. You can't seem to accept that though because "haha he said Manchester United are like that team from the Championship we just lost to".

Hasn't got anything to do with league standings imo, a rivalry doesn't go away because of that. Why else would you lot heavily celebrate a defeat by a team you're not in competition with?

Has he got more important things to think about because we're 13th, or is it a fierce rivalry that he's always thinking about?

If you were playing us anytime soon, or had we played you more recently than over a month ago, it'd have been more understandable. The timing just made it really weird.

Which is what was said to you in response initially, after which you tried to pretend it was completely normal and just made sense in relation to the Plymouth game. It would at least be somewhat funny if it wasn't mischaracterising that specific game against us. What you're saying is that he can just spout any nonsense as long as it's a shot at Utd, and your fanbase will lap it up.

Which is what people have said on here for years. It's cool you agree then, I guess.

Robin is arguing that it's fine for Slot to take a random shot at United because of the rivalry, while also saying that we're in an irrelevancy because of our league position and he's got bigger and more important things to think about.

Your lot were calling for some sort of investigation into Fergie for interfering with transfers when he made a joke about Charlie Adams' corners being worth £20 million a piece when you were trying to buy him from Blackpool.

We've said Slot's a bit weird for bringing us up over a month after we last played you, and at least 6 months before we next play you, when by your own admission he's got more important things to be thinking about.

That 13-placed sentence was just another dig at the sad state of affairs you find yourself in at United, nothing more to it. I doubt United keeps Slot awake at night but he apparently seems to be very well aware that a sly remark here and there will get him easy points from his own fanbase, which is exactly the kind of thing a manager might want in his first year at a new club. No one will bat an eyelid apart from some people in here who like to read up on the transcripts of another team's manager's press conferece, and that's that. If you think it's weird and beneath you and/or your own team, then you're very likely a better human being than I am who's never made any petty comments. Well done in that case :)

Yes, we've all been reading the transcripts of the press conference, and have not simply seen the very short, relevant quote/clip.

Why would he need to score cheap points with the fanbase when you're on course to win the league, favourites for the CL after topping the league stage, and should have his first trophy in the bag in a couple of weeks?

I'm not saying we keep him up at night. I'm saying it's weird that he brought us up to needlessly score some cheap points with your fanbase. You don't seem to be able to let it go that I (and others) think your manager has acted a bit weird here though, and are now trying to make it some sort of moral issue on who's a better person.

No, I wouldn't find it weird if the positions were reversed and Amorim said that about us. Unnecessary, sure, but I would understand why he did it.

And I can let it go hence why I already said multiple times "no worries if you think it's weird".

But you haven't actually once said "no worries if you think it's weird", and clearly can't let it go as you keep trying to argue that it's not weird.

You made one (quite clearly sarcastic) remark of that nature, followed by "You win!" but then carried on trying to explain to me why it wasn't weird and in fact a perfectly normal thing to do.

I'd also find it really weird if it the situations were reversed.

For someone so obviously sensitive of any criticism aimed at Liverpool, I'm not sure a Manchester United forum is the right place for you.
 
I mean, in fairness, he's right - Onana did go long at Anfield and I'm not sure why he wouldn't do so. He did it 20 times vs e.g. 7 in the last game vs Leicester.

If anything, passing short away to Liverpool is a stupid thing to do and far more likely to lead to a goal conceded.

What does the bolded even mean? I'm a United fan on a United forum saying the Liverpool manager has been a bit of a weirdo. I think that's fairly expected behaviour.

Also, if you were okay with me finding it weird you wouldn't have spent fecking ages arguing with me about it!

If you honestly believe I initially thought that Slot really, without any further intentions, referenced the United game of all games in order to make the comparison for the Plymouth game, then I don't know what to tell you.
 
Sticking to a position in an argument is difficult when you don't really have one and just want to blindly defend your side.

With me also saying that the 13-placed comment was just another dig, and with me saying to another poster that I thought it was unnecessary by Slot. Like I said I was just trying to stir the pot a bit, but changed pretty quickly to the view as quoted above because there's really not a lot of fun in trying to defend that he really meant that United remark.

I wouldn't bother, he's like this with anything Liverpool related. Affects an air of indifference and level headedness, but it's just blind support without any semblance of logic.

I guess you might argue that Liverpool's attacking threat from less direct means is likely higher (could be wrong, but I'd imagine so) - but yeah, Slot's comments were odd given the context of their season. Just say well played and move on.

There's a difference between living rent-free in someone's head and being aware of the rivalry and how such a comment here and there will be perceived by your (and their) fanbase, I'm sure you'd agree? It's not like he mentions United all the time or anything like that, unless I'm mistaken.

That's not true, and I'd even say that the opposite is more accurate in that I'm probably a lot more aware than your average Liverpool fan of what we as a club and a fanbase do/did wrong, exactly because of my presence on here for 10+ years and that I see first-hand how most of our actions, performances, comments, and whatnot are perceived by rival fans. But being in the minority on here every small mistake or inconcistency gets immediately piled on by several posters, sometimes rightfully, sometimes not.
