They'll eventually sign some players though. Slot has done very well to achieve what he has so far without any real signings of his own. Chiesa has barely featured. He was just a cheap punt by the club.

I'd agree that they need to keep Salah around for at least another 2 seasons.

We were quite reliant on van Persie for a lot of the of 12/13 season, to be fair.

I think Liverpool will sell the likes of Tsimikas, Gomez and Darwin next summer. They'll bring in a new LB, CB, DM and ST/RF. Robertson will have to settle for a squad role.

He wasn't wrong though, you did play a low block and then a long ball towards Hojlund. Possession is around similar because you have a slow buildup at the back, the ball goes through the 5 defenders before an attempt forward is made. Also XG doesn't lie, Onana had a good match. On a different day you could have been 2-0 behind at half time, and on another day you could have won the game in the last minute with Maguire's chance. So everything he said, he's basically right.

Hes done well but he took over a well oiled machine that was perhaps struggling a little due to having the same manager for such a long time. I don't think Liverpool are honestly playing amazingly under Slot but Salah certainly is. I have no idea how Slot will pan out for Pool, I just don't get the circle jerk around him. Hes changed very little and the rest of the league can't decide who wants to be the least shit team after Liverpool. Poor Klopp must be pulling his hair out after fighting with Pep for so many years. Losing the league when they got 99 points. Looks like 80 points will probably be enough this year.

Replacing a player like Salah is also borderline impossible.

Perhaps they will be just as good or better in 2 years but I can see Liverpool really struggling when VVD, Salah and Alisson leave. They have all been immense for Liverpool and will leave a huge hole in their side and I reckon they could all be gone within 2 years.

Will be interesting to see what Salah accepts if he does stay. I would be asking to be the best paid player in the league and given at least a 3 year contract.

He completely carried us at times. He was immense. The season after when he dropped off in form we suffered massively. Shows what a single absolutely world class player can do in the right situation.

A lot of our attacks came from the left wing due to excellent performances from the likes of Dalot and Bruno linking up together. Hardly any of our chances came from long balls towards Hojlund.

On a different day, we'd be 2-0 up at half time had Amad not made a hash of the open net and Hojlund buried his 1v1. Not sure why you're saying "xg doesn't lie" without mentioning the fact that the xg includes a penalty from a fluke handball. Alisson had just as much to do as Onana, if not more.

I have a different view on this, a lot of your attacks came from the left wing mostly due to Trent having an enormous stinker. But credit due where credit is due, United played a good match and considering everything, a draw is a fair result. But even if you take out the xg for the penalty, Liverpool still has almost double. So coming back to my point, I don't see why some are saying that Slot is saying delusional things after the match, in my eyes he was spot on. It would have been more spot on if he said that it was mostly long balls and even if UTD came through, it was mostly on Trent's side having a complete stinker, but can't blame the coach for protecting his player.

They're more technical now. Definitely aiming to become a more possession oriented team overall. There are still elements of Klopp's teams, but he has made some adjustments. It's difficult to put your full mark on it without any real signings.

I think a lot of Liverpool's signings have underwhelmed under Klopp in recent times. To his credit, he has Gravenberch playing out of his skin and Curtis Jones (average today) has looked better in his system. Mac Allister benefits from his buildup also. Luis Díaz has become a much bigger goal threat under Slot. Klopp preferred Gakpo through the middle and Díaz wide. Slot has flipped that.

Darwin isn't good enough and there's no saving him. Slot clearly rates Jota and Díaz over him. Szoboszlai still needs to show more. Although I do think they missed his running power at times today. He can motor.

I think Kelleher/Mamardashvili are capable of succeeding Alisson. van Dijk and Salah are the two who will be very difficult to replace. Bringing in a better ST to replace Darwin would ease some of the pressure on Salah.

There will be a drop off eventually. But I was expecting them to be having a season like City are currently having.

He's sore about that Liverpool display, no doubt about it. Hopefully it will have rattled them a bit and other teams will go after them, especially TAA. Still think they'll win the league as the chasers are so inconsistent, but would be funny if they bottled it somehow.

We played low block/ long ball no more than Liverpool did or any other teams do, depending on phases and press.

I don’t think it’s happened yet but I feel like they’re on the verge of being found out the same way Ten Hag was around February in his first season. They look a bit soft.

I mean is this based on anything other than that 2-2? We’ve looked anything but soft this season and a good distance better than Ten Haag’s United. We were down to 10 men against Fulham for 75+ minutes and deserved to win that game.

Football is so knee jerk now. Everyone’s opinion changes based on a single game.
 
He has done a very good job but I still feel there will be a fall. I like his man management a lot and maybe even better than Klopp, but tactically I am not sure how he will adapt when Salah leaves and their level drops off.

It happened last season under Klopp. United got results against them and they spiraled.
 
Slot has them the most consistent in a far from vintage Premier league campaign no more than that.

Came across as arrogant in the after match interviews which will sit fairly well with the majority of their supporters.

So what was it? Did our attacks come through the wing or 'long balls to Hojlund'? As others have said, yes we had a fairly mid-low block but was as defensive as they were (when we attacked them). The funniest thing is that they were spamming long balls to Salah, Gakpo, Diaz and Nunez all game. It's literally their tactic that they've perfected for years under Klopp. First time channel balls for them to compete and then counter press on the 1st/2nd phase. Our long balls were mostly made inside our half around the half way line because they were playing such a high line i.e it was there for the taking and not just random punts.

If we played like Nottingham Forest then it also means they weren't that different to us. Either Slot really rates Forest/is downplaying our performance and style or he's overestimating how well he think they played.

Overall, I would say they played some prettier team football and cut us open at times with the intricacy of their play in the first half but we definitely had our chances, which were created as just as well through transitions and wing play.

Also when have you ever been “there to take advantage” in the last 20 years? I’ll believe it when I see it.
 
They are definitely not as intensely good as a Klopp team from what I saw yesterday. I have no idea how they are doing so well.

They've lost energy in the team but probably gained some structural balance because of that. Still can't make up for Trent's inability to defend though.

Yeah, that was the one thing he said that confused me. Liverpool were sitting deep towards the end of the game, and I never felt that United were playing a low block. They were defending high and stepping onto Liverpool. Seemed like a bit of saltiness, there.

We haven’t, just like you haven’t been able to see through any of your challenges when in positions like this in the past. Hence why I mentioned City, who are still well in this race.

The approach we took is exactly how Liverpool resolve defending against teams that are imposing a high line and press.

At times we needed to squeeze the space while Liverpool were on top but generally it wasn't anything like a low block and knock it long strategy

Nunez looks like an expensive Carroll

I think Van Dijk will stay, and Salah is a maybe. TAA is gone.

In the summer I think we need to be looking heavily at the backline. We need a new LB and CB already, and will need a new RB too. A CDM and probably a forward or two too (I expect Nunez to be sold and we'll need a RW to replace Salah).

Big summer. I don't expect us to compete for the league next season as things stand, but then we all said that this season too. We'll see how we look going into 2025/26.

I like Slot though. He's more pragmatic than Klopp and better at tweaking the side. Responds well to set backs too generally speaking.
 
It's easy to be Mr Nice guy when you're wining. He's just a another scouse wanker. He will be sacked in a couple of seasons when Klopp's finger prints on the team have disappeared!

Top of Champions League thingy, top of PL with a bit to spare, semi finals of coca cola cup, if they are soft, I can't wait till they harden up a bit.

Man United were brilliant yesterday, Liverpool were poor, great result for ye, now you have bigger games ahead coming up.

They hit the season on the starting blocks, carrying on form and principles from Klopp with a few tweaks here and there.

We’ll see what Slot is made of not necessarily against « big clubs » but when things wont go their way, as it did yesterday for instance.

We finished last season terribly under Klopp. Completely ran out of ideas and steam at the end of the season. There's some Klopp in this team though for sure. They're almost entirely his players. I think Only Joe Gomez has been at Liverpool since pre Klopp.

Indeed because Klopp himself was exhausted and the players were a bit troubled by him leaving.
That’s why I said « principles » and not necessarily form or squad. When a group players plays the same way for years now, you only need a few tweaks and get some confidence going to restart the machine.

Let’s see how Slot will react when facing off field issues or unexpected results.
Albeit not the exactly the same, Big Ange started strongly last season until a few grains of sand gripped his machine
