Music Arctic Monkeys

Excellent. I'm torrenting it but I'm going to see them at the O2 soon so that's my contribution.

Needs to be available for download!

Not only is the South Park enough to make me not feel guilty about it, what they do, to compensate for this sort of thing, is make you pay through the nose to see them live, which I'm doing anyway. They're getting their money's worth out of me.

Getting the deluxe LP next week. Downloading from What.cd now. :)

They played Electric Picnic last night, I was a bit disappointed. Not liking the new stuff and he came across as a bit of a tosser.

I remember when humbug came out, I said Alex needs to become an arrogant bastard for them to be a great live band. He's got the right mix now.

I saw them in 2008 and they weren't anything special despite how much I love them. Will be interesting to see how they are next month.

I'm so happy. This album's excellent. Has that little dip in the middle (like most do - Riot Van, Only Ones Who Know), but it's so good. Turner said they'd taken inspiration from hip-hop which threw me a bit as I can't do with that; it's almost anti-rock. But it works so well, the beats complement the songs really well, another top album.

And we might sign a midfielder!

It's great. Album of the year for me so far.

R U Mine is still my favourite Arctics' song (we're going to have stop abbreviating them to AM aren't we?), and I loved Do I Wanna Know and Why'd You Only Call Me... when they came out, but I think Arabella's the second best on the album. It's just so fecking brilliant. I also really like One For The Road.

I Want It All I really like too, but it sounds familiar at the beginning and I've no idea where from. Top album.

AM:

Great tier:
Do I Wanna Know?
R U Mine?
One For The Road
Arabella
Knee Socks

Good tier:
Number 1 Party Anthem
Mad Sounds
Why'd You Only Call Me When you're high
Snap Out Of It (The soundcheck version sounded MUCH better. Faster pace, nice riff in the chorus)

Meh Tier:
I Want It All
Fireside
I Wanna Be Yours

My only complaint is that they're using those high pitched backing vocals a bit much for my liking.

I hear a lot of Dr.Dre influences and a few other hip-hip ones I can't quite place yet.

Drake and Lil' Wayne should be the other ones. On R U Mine: "There's a few references for people to pick up on in there – 'Some Velvet Morning', Tracy Island. Those references are just me being a smartarse...That particular bit is like the thing Lil Wayne and Drake do. We've been listening to a lot of their stuff recently. I like that thing they do where they talk about something backwards, so they talk about it but then say what it actually is on the next line. It's hard to explain but I guess it's a little nod to that idea. So I say, 'I'm a puppet on a string', just before mentioning Tracy Island. That's what it's about – uncertainty."

Their best.

I wouldn't even say that's really hip-hop centric to be honest.

I'm sure I remember Alex Turner saying he was fan of Outkast and specifically the song Ghetto Musick.

I don't know if you caught this but "number 1 party anthem" lyrics....

So you're on the prowl wondering whether she left already or not
Leather jacket, collar popped like Cantona :D
Never knowing when to stop
Sunglasses indoor, par for the course
Lights in the floor and sweat on the walls
Cages and poles

This by far the best album they've produced and I absolutely loved each and every one of their previous work.

Where are people getting the full album from?

Bay of pirates. Or the Compact Disc of What.

I love Mad Sounds. It's a bit Velvet Underground. And Jesus and Mary Chain, though I'm not entirely sure why it makes me think of them.

This album is so diversified within itself, not to mention it's completey different from what they've done so far, that it makes me think Alex Turner could basically try to play football and be better than Messi. He's semi-God, they've pulled off so many different sounds that it's really impossible to tell where their limit is. Amazing, anyone who tries to complain about the sound of this album deserves to have their ears cut off.

The exact two bands I was thinking of. It's the base line and the "yeah, make you get up" bit that reminds me of JAMC, a bit like "Come On" from Stoned & Dethroned.

You could be right with that actually, I'm not too familiar with that album but I used to always listen to Sometimes Always, and Come On is the following track.

It reminded me of this cover

Snap Out of It is catchy as feck too.

It's definitely a better album than Suck It and See anyway. Humbug's my favourite album of theirs (not including this one as it hasn't sunk in enough yet). This could be better.

One For The Road is probably my least favourite on the album, though "From the bottom of your heart / the relegation zone" is a nice line.

It's probably my least favourite track as well but it's actually still pretty good, that's what's amazing about this album - you can basically get into all songs on it. Fireside for example isn't even within the top half of my favourite tracks on it and I absolutely love the sound of it.

Yep, Fireside and Snap Out Of It are probably my next least favourites, but they both feel like growers. They also sound different enough from the rest of the album to still be interesting.

The singles, Arabella, No. 1 Party Anthem and Knee Socks are the stand outs so far. Knee Socks is seriously catchy.

To be fair I'm currently listening mostly to the tracks that haven't been released as singles to get the better feel of the whole album, when I hear it whole in one piece it's probably going to be an even better experience. I know I'm going to head over to the store first thing in the morning when the album is released on Monday.

What?! Snap Out Of It is incrediblycatchy. I also love One For The Road. I really like Fireside too.

Music, eh.

Irritating trivia: every time I'm listening to it, I read that line - 'snap out of it'. It's eerie.

So erm Fireside... Surely it's the background music from this, right?

Immediately reminded me of that scene in Oceans 12 when I heard it.
