Music Arctic Monkeys

I think 'Snap Out Of It' is my favourite so far, even though there are some awesome tunes on the album. Notable mentions for 'Arabella' of course and 'I Want It All'.

Brilliant, brilliant album.

Tried putting them in some kind of order, which is hard because as you go down the list, you find songs you really like, just not as much as the others.

I mean, I really like the last five, I'd just there's a gap between them and the others. Absolutely brilliant album. The top three weren't too hard, but the next four are interchangeable. As are the four after that. Even Mad Sounds I like, just less than the rest.
R U Mine
Arabella
Snap Out Of It
Do I Wanna Know
Why'd You Only Call Me
I Want It All
One For The Road

No 1 Party Anthem
Fireside
I Wanna Be Yours
Knee Socks
Mad Sounds

No. 1 Party Anthem sounds like it could've been taken straight from Turner's Submarine EP.

That's pretty much how I would group them as well. It's an insanely good album - not sure I've ever known a band to come up with some of their best work on their 5th album. Speaks volumes for the quality of their song writing and musicianship as they have grown up and matured.

Meant to quote this earlier...

Irritating trivia: every time I'm listening to it, I read that line - 'snap out of it'. It's eerie.

...but what did you mean by this, on the last page mate?

I've never listened to that - worth downloading? Is the film any good?

Well as I was listening to Snap Out Of It yesterday, I posted that, just the title, to my mate on facebook, and within the second he'd sent "Snap Out Of It's catchy", which was weird. Then someone posted something about 'Snap Out Of It' on twitter whilst I was listening to it, then someone did it on here.

Snap out of it.

(were you listening to it this time? :p)

I'd go,

Don't know why they released "High" as a single. It's one of the worst tracks on there.

Agreed. As far as hip hop-y inspired tracks go, I wanna be yours is miles better than it. I think that's getting really underrated. Opinions and all that...

I fecking love Mad Sounds.

I thought some of the lyrics to I Wanna Be Yours were a bit naff. Turns out they're from a poem.

It's not the greatest lyrics he's ever put together by any stretch, but the music just sounds amazing. I love the "at least as deep as the pacific ocean" part. Not even the actual words, it just sounds good the way it's done. It's a nice album closer.

Snap Out Of It is the poppiest song on it but I love it. Can't sit still listening to it.

This album surprised me, I never thought I'd like their new album so much, don't get me wrong, they are one of my favorite bands and I love all of their albums, but this album seems to have almost as much quality as any of their very best albums!

Agreed, it's weird that people on here are putting it as one of their less favorite songs so far from the album.

They're awesome. They could write a song about elephant dicks in space with just a triangle for instruments and it'd still be brilliant.

Arctic Monkeys change so much from album to album that it's kind of impossible to agree on what their best album is. Humbug and SIAS were both fairly divisive in their own ways and have their own little branch of devotees who'll say it's their favourite. I get the feeling AM will be much less divisive though.

Edit: Or maybe it will be divisive after all. Drowned In Sound gives it 5/10 while NME give it 10/10 and say it might be the best record of the last decade. Music critics...

I'm finding it impossible to rank the five albums. All I know is I'd have SIAS at 5, even though I like it a lot.

Best song on the album.

It's not really though is it? Arctic Monkeys are a rock band, and that's the least 'rocky' song on the album.

Mine were:
WPSIA
SIAS
FWN
Humbug

I'm pretty sure this'd go above SIAS, but I'm not sure about WPSIA. It's like comparing footballers of different generations. All you can really say is that they were brilliant/the best in their time.

The new album is pretty boring, some decent beats made into the utterly mundane.

My first listen made me think that, other than the singles which I've loved so far, the other songs are rather similar and/or underwhelming. Hopefully they'll grow on me with further listening.

I Wanna Be Yours is brilliant. I think my least favourite song is I Want It All, and I don't particularly like the chorus on Knee Socks. Other than that the album is immense.

I hate people who download albums off the internet (all of you), remember the good old days when people would wait for the cd to come out.....

I await that thrill tomorrow, getting a whiff of that new album smell, fk the internet!

I'll get the album tomorrow when it hits the stores here but I couldn't wait an extra week to hear it.

My mate sent me this really momentous text about how we were about to hear Arctic Monkeys' new album and how he'd been looking forward to its release, and I said "Hate to piss on your chips mate, but it got leaked during the week."

Got all of their albums, and been holding out on downloading it to buy the CD. Was nowhere yesterday, and no luck so far today. What's the fecking point of making them anymore, not my fault if pirating music is the only way

Got it! I want it all sounds like a particular Morrissey track, can't put my finger on which one though.

Hmm, a few of Morrissey's songs have that kind of glam stomp guitar sound alright, stuff like "In the future when all's well" and "that's how people grow up". T Rex-y kind of sound.
