Music Arctic Monkeys

So, a week of almost non-stop listening (by non-stop I mean whenever I had the opportunity to on the iPod, in the car, on the laptop etc. Not literally every second of every day) I think I have settled upon a ranking of my favourite tracks from the album:

R U Mine?
Do You Wanna Know?
Arabella
Fireside
I Want It All
Why'd You Only Call When You're High?

Knee Socks
One For The Road
I Wanna Be Yours

No.1 Party Album
Mad Sounds

It is a stupendous album. A masterpiece. Fireside, in particular, is an underrated gem, in my opinion.

Mad Sounds is still pretty beautiful even though most people would rank it last.

Got all of their albums, and been holding out on downloading it to buy the CD. Was nowhere yesterday, and no luck so far today. What's the fecking point of making them anymore, not my fault if pirating music is the only way

Well you could buy the CD on Amazon with AutoRip instant mp3s if you have none of the big 4 supermarkets near you

Though if I were you, I'd buy the vinyl instead. Be a hipster.

Mad Sounds and No.1 Party Anthem sound like SIAS b-sides that they decided to chuck into this album. Both are good songs, but not fitting at all with the style of this album.

Fireside, in particular, is an underrated gem, in my opinion.
Yeah, I love Fireside.

I love Mad Sounds. It's one of my faves.

I can honestly say I really like every song on the album though...even some of my favourite albums of all time have some duds on there. Brilliant album, easily one of their best.

I won tickets for the Manchester gig next week earlier. I am fecking buzzing now as this was a gig I was desperate to go to but tickets are like gold dust.

To make it even more surreal, one of the lads I car-pool to work with won a pair too - in the same competition - and both of us were unaware the other had even entered! Two winners out of hundreds of applicants, and the two of us are great mates.

What are the chances?

1/hundreds*2

I'm going to their gig on the 25th. Should be immense.

As much as I like them, would never pay 40 quid to see them. You pay that money for a band that puts on a spectacle, Arctic Monkeys aren't the type of band to do Muse type theatrics.

Muse?

Come on now.

Muse are one of the best bands in the country right now, I much prefer them to Arctic Monkeys, but I listened to muse first anyway not the arctic monkeys. Black Holes and Revelations was much better than the Arctic Monkeys debut when they both came out in 2006, and its not even muses best. Origin of Symmetry beats Humbug, and I fecking love humbug to death. At least Muse haven't pandered to the audience, I remember thinking the next album after Humbug would be even weirder, but it was poppy Arctic Monkeys again. Not discrediting Suck and See but I expected better.

Muse put on a good live show. And Bellamy is a talented musician, but their music is tack.

Sorry Bob Dylan, I know you write some good material, but could you at least add some pyrotechnics? Otherwise I'll be forced to prefer Kiss. Ta.

I used to really like Muse but can't stand them now, they are far too theatrical for my liking, think they'd be more at home in the West End.

They've always had that side to them, I mean all they've done is replace destroying drum kits and guitars (and nearly killing each other) with a kick ass light show.

It's probably more like Humbug than any of the other three are, but it's still pretty different.

Is their new album anything like Humbug? That's the only one I like.

We wouldn't get on in real life. I think that's their worst one. Not that it's bad in any way, just not as good as the rest.

Just got tickets for their Finsbury park gigs in May. Makes me feel better about missing out on the London shows this year.

Looks like I've got them too. Saw them at Glastonbury this year and Old Trafford in '07.

Can't wait to see Tame Impala again, and although I don't care for Miles Kane they'll probably play one or two last shadow puppet tracks which will be great. Haven't heard of royal blood.

New album's pretty good, but what's with all the high-pitched vocals? Makes a lot of the songs sound very similar.

Do I Wanna Know and No. 1 Party Anthem are amazing though.

Seeing them in Finsbury Park on the 23rd.

Probably my least favourite song on the album. I'd have gone for Arabella, I Want It All or Knee Socks as a single instead.

I haven't spoken to a single person in real life who hasn't thought their last two albums were quite "meh". Personally really like R U Mine, and found the rest of the album a bit of a chore to listen to.

I suspect a bit of a Halo/Fifa fanboy element is going on here. They could release a song that's literally the sound of someone taking a dump and people would claim it's a work of genius

What? Get new friends. And ears. Last two were better than their previous two. Whatever.

 Well said - apart from the last point, FWN is better than Humbug/SIAS (All great though).

I do prefer FWN to Humbug, but FWN and Humbug together were worse than SIAS and AM for me. FWN was slightly overrated (by me at least). Listening back I don't think all that much to Balaclava, D Is For Dangerous, even less so to Only Ones Who Know and Flourescent Adolescent. Teddy Picker, Brianstorm, If You Were There..., Old Yellow Bricks and 505 all quality, the rest were decent (found This House Is A Circus to be a bit overrated too).

All in all it's an excellent album when you compare it to everything else, but I found SIAS to be more consistent throughout.
